Running 680/2011.40 beside 1695/2012.20 from suburbs north of Mobile AL to west side of Mobile. The 680 pointed me to a shortcut I had been considering while the 1695 said stay on I-65. The route was OK in the daylight but your life and front end alignment would be in danger after dark. The 1695 agreed with my wife that I should get back on familiar ground but the routing was just nuts.
Returning last night from Saraland, the 680 says turn left at light, drive 70 miles, arrive at home-OK. The 1695 says go straight through the light into subdivision surrounded by Bayou Sara, make a circle and stop-

Has anyone noticed that some directions are way off since upgrading? For example, we wanted directions to the Stratosphere in Las Vegas but we went through Industrial Road to a backlane and never ended up where the map said the hotel would be.

Same here. I found no solution for the missing JVs frp, that link.

Yes, the crippled JV in 2012.2 has been discussed at length in the forum. See this thread for the solution: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=142236

@sussamb,

Thanks. That did the trick. I was trying to use the new Lifetime Updater, but that wasn't doing what I wanted. Going back to the old way to update maps gave me a chance to reinstall.
danham Posted - 14 août 2011 : 15:13:51
On my zumo 660, the 2012.20 update came with a slightly larger JCV file, but no dramatic differences I can find yet. There's still only one J-view on a route to NYC, which seems pretty lame. I am downloading the larger JCV file that supposedly runs on zumo 660s and will report in that topic when I test it.

You need to log in to your myGarmin account, then go to Manage Maps, click on Details and it gives you the option to download maps again
dcbii Posted - 13 août 2011 : 19:08:48
My nüvi 660 had the map space issues as well, so I installed the lower 49 set. I found some things to erase, and now I want to try again, but I can't seem to get the map updater to let me add more. Anyone know how to do this?
edyy3k Posted - 13 août 2011 : 12:03:08
resolved, the map should not be greater than 2GB, whether higher card
sussamb Posted - 09 août 2011 : 09:15:33
Well if your card wasn't formatted to FAT32 that was the issue, as that is what the nuvi expects.

Rick,
I understand and do not have problems with it. But I did try two different SD cards and every time the Nuvi booted and accessed the SD card it simply shut down. I tried 4GB and brand new 2GB card. Same results.

Any idea what could be the culprit?

continued :Problem fixed. I formated the card in W7 64b to FAT32 and used Mapsource to create map image and send it to SD card. This time it worked. No sure what helped formating or creating map image.

I have found after upgrading to 2012.20 and after creating a custom avoidance on my 2460LMT, the unit shuts down when you try to access any of the avoidances on the list. This is a repeatable problem. Has anyone else had this issue? Performing a master reset will delete the avoidances and "fix" the issue. I will be contacting Garmin about this.

When I tried to download the NA update, I was informed that I did not have enough space on my Nuvi. Never had a problem before. I deleted many unnecessary language files and tried again. I settled on the lower 49 map. Any ideas?
Kris2005 Posted - 07 août 2011 : 00:26:03
I had nothing but problems with the lifeupdater. This morning I got message that maps update is available but when I opened the lifeupdater I got message no updates are available. After checking Garmin site I knew the updates were available. So I decided to use webservice to do the update, it prompted me to install lifetimeupdater despite if already being installed! So I decided to reinstall it anyway. After that I received message on Garmin website that the files were downloaded but there was problem with installation. The lifeupdater would not work. So I uninstalled it and used manual download. The maps of North Amnerica were properly installed in the MapSource but there was message that the Nuvi (260W) does not have enough memory and the update installed only 49 lower states to the unit. It is sort of annoying. So I decided to install maps onto 4GB memory card. The process went smoothly but when I plugged the card into the Nuvi and started it the unit shut down after seeing a green bar showing map loading progress. Tried this with different memory cards with the same results.
Any solution to this problem? What do I need to do the get the card working?
Thanks
Kris

I had an error at the end as well, but all seems good with it.
bachastain Posted - 06 août 2011 : 03:32:24
FYI, I also encounter errors when trying to install using the Lifetime Updater. I had to disconnect the gps and reconnect it before it would find my gps. It also spit out an error at the end once the update was complete. All is well despite that.
hpatlik Posted - 06 août 2011 : 02:21:23
I noticed that on my 2460, the JV are now displayed as a split screen with the 3D view.

Yay! Garmin fixed all the missing JVs here in the midwest. On 2012.10 there were no junction views from the Chicago area to Atlanta GA, not one.

Now there are 27 on 2012.20.

Bruce.

Have seen that a couple of times. Questioned Garmin and they replied:

We are aware of that issue and currently working on a fix. I will keep you posted when we release a fixed version (first of next week).

@Kingcan, you may also find that the opening screen of the Updater program will want to "search for device" if your GPS isn't attached to the PC and "install" the maps again if the device is attached. You will not be able to "check for updates". Garmin says that the workaround until the fix is out is:

Until then, the only workaround is to remove and re-add your device. Once you re-add the device, it will see that the maps are up to date and you will be back to the “normal” state.

Worked fine for me today with the new Lifetime Updater on my 3790LMT. However a few days ago using the same program updating a friends 3790 I got a communication error right at the end after the map had loaded into the GPS. Checked the map version on the GPS and the new one was loaded. His GPS works fine.
polymers Posted - 05 août 2011 : 18:45:03
That is interesting as mine was at 4.25 with 2012.10.

I notice that the item reads "CN North America NT 2012.20 ALL trafficTends North America 4.25". So I assume that the dataset (the 2012.20 part) can update without updating the version (4.25). Maybe I'm thinking of this wrong...

So when Garmin says they update this up to 4 times per year, I figure they are updating the dataset? (which is the part our units report back if we have data sharing enabled)???

caryrae Posted - 05 août 2011 : 18:44:04
There is definitely more JV with the new map update on my 1695. I simulated a 150 mile route and before there was no JV now there was like 8 or 9 of them and these were the more Photo Realistic ones.
hpatlik Posted - 05 août 2011 : 06:21:19
Prior to upgrading to 2012.20 from 2012.10, the traffictrends version was 3.75. After the upgrade, it is now 4.25.

That's what I have.
polymers Posted - 05 août 2011 : 04:22:55
My traffic trends version did not update (at 4.25). Is this consistent with what others are seeing?
Lizard_weasel Posted - 05 août 2011 : 03:29:34
Ahhhh, ok...although I thought a couple of thje devices showed over a week since they'd been checked. I'll watch that now to make sure they do at least weekly.
NanaimoRick Posted - 05 août 2011 : 03:18:28
That's because this program is designed to check weekly for updates (and download automatically once they’re found). You don’t need to have your device plugged in for it to run, check, or download. The button on the screen will allow you to check more frequently (or force it to check once you read on the forums that the update has been released). As with the automatic (weekly) check, you do not need your device plugged in to force it to check, retrieve the update or initiate the download.
Lizard_weasel Posted - 05 août 2011 : 02:41:44
Yes. When the update was announced, I went to the updater, I had to click on check for update for each of the 4 devices I have to get it to start downloading.

Why is it the Garmin updater didn't tell me there was an update available? Seems it only checks when I tell it to.

Do you have the newest version (2.0.5) which was released yesterday?
larney Posted - 05 août 2011 : 01:04:55
Hi everyone. I am hoping for some help.

I have the 1490 and I just downloaded the newest maps using the lifetime updater. I get a error that the maps cannot be installed. It looks like there is not enough room on the unit. I already have removed all the languages except for one and custom poi's and anything else I can think of but still not enough space.

Is there anyway with the lifetime updater to have the map installed to the 4 gig sd card that I have in the unit? I want to load everything and have a full size junction view file also. I don't want to use Map source to load just part of the file.

With the map file growing everytime, which is a good thing, there must be a way for us to load the updates on a card.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Yea, the jcv file on my 775T (8 gigs) shrank to 49 megs. I used the old update method though, not the new Lifetime Updater.
Dewi Posted - 04 août 2011 : 23:41:36
POI Shopping Center data still incorrectly includes Business Supply Stores (eg. Staples). If anyone has any idea of how one might ever get this fixed, I'm open to suggestions. Navteq Map Reporter does not allow POI category classification changes and my error reports to Garmin are apparently fruitless too. It's been incorrect for over two years' worth of releases now.

Must be model specific as my 1490LMT update only gave my JCV file 51mb.

The Lifetime Updater and the old-fashioned way both left me with "unable to authenticate maps" errors. Called Garmin, and they fixed it for me. Just be aware of it (This was on a 3790T with 4.30 firmware).
