EDIT BY GPSPASSION 20070524
Thought I would start a thread to contain these..
ALL AT YOUR OWN RISK!! If none of this makes sense, don't do it. Don't blame me.

Reading about the mods for the other MIOs, seems like a lot can be done. There are probably a lot more, but this is my first. BTW, seems like this device is "unlocked" as I can get to the files to copy and replace. I guess the other MIOs couldn't do that without a hack being done. Others know more than I do on that subject.

HACK #1
How to turn on the Export button so track logs can be exported...

Hack into the "tracking_480_272.ui" file.

First of all download the data.zip file from your device (under \MIOMAP\MioMap.) KEEP A BACKUP...

1] Unzip your data.zip
2] Find tracking_480_272.ui.
3] Find the line "<BUTTON btn_track_export x=133 y=232 text="Export" bmp="btn_bott65.bmp#3" align="center" w=58 valign="center+4" fontsize=12 fonttype=buttonlabel1 onrelease='run sc_export_current_track' hide>"
4] Remove these 5 characters near the end " hide" so it looks like "..._track'>"
4] save the file.
5] re-zip your data files back to data.zip (mind the directory structure!)
6] copy data.zip back to your device.

Your button should now appear under the track info screen.
Pretty cool! Exports a .gpx file to your SD card (gotta have one) under a directory called \tracks.

Enjoy, and add to the thread.

Lol. I already did. In fact I did over this past weekend via paypal. I'm just afraid something might go wrong if I add those in the skins folder.

I don't intent to customize the overrides, I just want to drag/drop and that's it. So I thought since it's working for you, then it should prolly work for me w/no hiccups..let me know if it's still possible.
Thanks

OK, I see. I have not made any alterations at all to the overrides. I have just placed them in the SKIN folder.

This is for JD (and anyone else who wanna help...)
I have been working on a 480x272 skin for the IGO2006SE editions (cydle, navngo, etc)...
(available at http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=129502 )
I would like to either port the JD skin to the 2006SE or use parts of it in my skin. Is that possible (permission?)

Thanks!

You are welcome.

The recent hardwareiderror thread was much shorter then this 300+ page thread. There are links to the software upgrades in this thread, (I remember one from TheRock somewhere before page 100) but finding them is hit-or-miss even with searching.

There were several different software versions... 3.3 July 5 2007, 3.3 September 2007, and others.

Jerry's site has a list of +'s and -'s for them.

Mark

Hi, Jerry,
Wondering if you might have a solution to another "nag" I have w/MioMap. On the history screen of previous routes, it would be great to delete individual routes. Often out of 15 or so routes there is "one" I'd like to use again, but only see an option to "delete all" - hate the clutter but often do "delete all" and re-input the one I wanted to use again. Anything I'm overlooking, or something you might consider adding? Guess another option would be to "protect" a route from the "delete all" command.

Thanks for all your terrific efforts for the C520!

It should be the Jan 2008 version of MioMap SW

PeterMJ Posted - 27 juil. 2009 : 21:29:53
Jerry, the firmware is v3.3 April 16 2007, which is really weird, since I thought I had the latest available firmware from Mio. Is there any place I can download the firmware from July 2007?

Update: it has now been confirmed that it is the newest firmware that I have. The Miomap.exe is not dependent on this, I suppose, but on what version of Miomap.exe is on the included installation dvd from Mio, as far as I can reckon. I have two such DVDs. After having installed both of them, the one dvd gives me a Miomap.exe dated April 16 2007, the other gives March 26 2007. So none of them are dated July 5th 2007, and I assume I would have to get hold of a newer installation dvd for this to happen. Not so likely, so perhaps I will just live with the version I have. Strange about the audio mute button though, but it seems to be a difficult problem to solve..
PeterMJ Posted - 27 juil. 2009 : 20:01:07
Jerry,

I have not progressed yet to the level of using overrides, but I am looking into it.

About MioMap.exe, I don't get the version number, when I go into MyFlashDisc/MioMap/MioMap, find the file, and then right-click and get the properties of it. Is there another wa to get it? When MioMap boots, it states MioMap 3.

I have unlocked the device, with the help of G_Atlin here, and then I have used the IBootformatans405_WEU firmware-update from Mio, that I have downloaded previously (all firmware downloads for the C520 seems to have disappeared from Mio's website), which contain version R37.3.9931.0816. That is the same firmware as can be found on this site. Do I need another firmware-version? I thought the mentioned firmware version was the newest available release from Mio, and previously, before doing an upgrade to Mios new Moov firmware and subsequent downgrade, it did give an audio mute button on the main navigation display.
Jerry Posted - 27 juil. 2009 : 19:20:48
Peter,
You'll need to provide more details.
Miomap.exe must be v3.3 dated 2007'7 or later (what is it?)
Do you use overrides? (SKIN folder)

<BUTTON uibtn_IVTState x=278 y=184 z=1 bmp= " circle.spr " alpha=20 fontsize=12 color=#808080 onclick=' IVT_BLUETOOTH_CLICK' hide>

When I do this on my Mio C520, the unit gets a fatal error, while loading MioMap. Anyone has some experience with fixing this? Is the above code still valid with the firmware-update from July 5th 2007; it was written shortly before that.

PS: I did try Jerrys newest skin from www.miopassion.com, but there I also encountered a fatal error, when MioMap was booting. Error-message was: FFUI error:
FFUIERROR: Code=8

Any idea what is wrong?
Jerry Posted - 24 juil. 2009 : 18:09:02
AS I recall, Jan'08 and Sep'07 Miomap.exe release behaves differently in reference to POIs.
I'm using July'07 and consider it he best (missing extra PIS icons, but better POI buffer management and is not licking-up). Also, the behaviour (performance) will vary depending on maps.

BTW, few days ago my website was hijacked. I hope nobody was affected.
Should be all clean now. Chrome and Firefox blocked the "bad" links instantly.
IE let it run - be advised.

AndrewR Posted - 21 juil. 2009 : 07:14:09
I haven't done much with my C520 for quite some time, since I was very happy with a skin of Jerry's from 4-14-2008 (I think that was it). Then I decided to see what was up and installed the latest skin (3-15-2009). Whoa, was it slow! 12-14 seconds between screen updates and response to button pushes. So I came here and did some review. There were some good hints on what to check on by Jerry and others, and I've done a bunch of testing.

My current theory: If you have a skin later than the 12-06-2009 version AND have a fairly large iGO.db (one which has a lot of POI's you've added), AND have all or a lot of POIs set to "show" on the map, THEN you've got trouble.

I've tested with iGO.db's of 26 Kb (new one created by deleting the old), one of 130 Kb, and one of 972 Kb. With all the POIs set to 'Show' in the Manage POI menu, and the "big" iGO.db, I got the 12-14 seconds between screen updates time. With the 130 Kb database, the update rate was a bit faster, but still 8-10 seconds. With the small database, it seemed to be a fine. Changing the POIs to 'Hide', and running the 130 Kb database, I am getting update rates of about twice a second (maybe a bit faster) with the latest skin. It kind of looks like 'Showing' POIs is the significant factor. And the more POIs you show, the worse.

I lost my 'big' 972Kb database, so wasn't able to test it with the POIs 'hidden'. And I'd like to do some more testing of the 12-17-2008 skin, but with something working well now, I'll let someone else experiment. After all, for a theory to be accepted, independent verification is needed - so go do a test or two and figure out where I've gone wrong!

After reading the OEM source for igo 2006, I found the script that executes in miomap/igo when you arrive at the destination. The script does not exist by default, but if you create the script "sc_route_finished" in common.ui it will be called on arrival at the destination. Hope that helps all those who are writing new skins. Makes it clean things up when you arrive! (and great place for a pop-up arrival box).

Jerry,

Late answer

I live in Brazil and, as default of your skin I always had the North/South America view on "globe".
Last month I went to South Africa. After a cold reboot, "globe" changed to the Europe/African view, exactly as you previewed.
I returned to Brazil and the "globe" keeps showing the late view.
Just for your knowledge...

Is there any performance issue with MioMap_DATA_JD20090315 on C320? Or am I missing something here?

I experianced the same.
I suspect my personal POI on the SD card.
When I remove the SD card the new skin works fine but when I insert the SD card with only my personal POI's it veeeerrrrrryyyyyyyy slow.

Yeah, buying new maps from Mio isn't the way to go. You would be better off buying new maps from Igo or one of the other manufacturers that run igo2006 software (like V7). Only problem might be licensing, so you might want to contact them first and see if that would be an issue with using the maps and license with MioMap. Jerry, I am not sure which skin to download. So many options!!! I guess I will go with the latest version, although I am kind of sold on the 2008.12.06 version. I love your skins! I want to try them all. I should have kept up with it, but my poor miomap has fallen behind with updating other things. I plan on catching it up though. Thanks for all you do.

OK... the latest skin gives me a bunch of errors. I deleted the Igo.db file thinking it would fix it, but nope. I went back to the version I was using. Is there some trick to getting the latest version to run?

Looks like too many "miomaps". As I remember it, it should be:

"SD CARD\MIOMAP\MAPS\Your map files here"

If that doesn't work, try:

"SD CARD\MAPS\Your map files here"

Good luck,

Guyz,

After installing MioMap v3.3 Jan'08 version, Jerry's 03/15 skin (MioMap_DATA_JD20090315) is working fine. I does take a couple of seconds extra to load though. But that is expected as per Jerry's post dated 04/23/2009 : 16:11:34

Jerry Posted - 23 avr. 2009 : 16:11:34
Guys,
Few clarifications.
1. Newest version will run a bit slower due to the use of a "real time" updates. The same effect happens when you select sizeable number of POIs for monitoring. I also use TMC and don't see aproblem. "Cache" setting should be fine. Obviosly, current code is bigger, due to the increased functionality, and will take longer to load. Note that C520 and C320 cpu is the same, but C320 uses SD card only. Make sure it is fast. My C520 reads fast 8GB card without problems.
In addition, running an unlock like MioPocket will certainly "eat" plenty of memory and cpu.
2. SKIN folder should NOT hold full DATA.zip. You would be loadin 2 full size skins over each other and very likely encounter conflicts. Put there small overrides only. I actively use 4 - no issue.
3. Try disabling "STREET" numbers and see if performance improves. This would be equivalen to have no POIs selected.
4. Custom car images can be easily replaced. This was previously discussed (few pages back). To make it VERY EASY, I will prepare a "special" override soon (2-3 days). Note that icons must be prepared as special BMP files (32 bit with Alpha blending) and require special software. PNG won't work.
5. There is no such thing as DATA folder. Well, you can create one along with more problems.
6. If you still encounter "slowness", this could be due to an oversize of "IGO.DB" file. Delete one (or rename) and Mio will crean new "clean" one.

I hope this helps.

I did not unzip the downloaded zip file. I simply renamed it to data.zip and put it under miomap/miomap folder on my Flash Disk. Just the same way I did it for Jerry's 2008.09 (MioMap_DATA_JD20080904) skin.

I'm not running any other programs (explicitly) with this skin. I even tried hard-rebooting my C320 after installing the new skin. But nothing helped.

Has anybody tried this skin on C320?

You need to turn off "Hide Extensions for known file types" in your wondows folder options. It is "Hiding" the .zip extension. With it turned off, you will see it as Data.zip and not Data.

k4955,

I drove around a few miles with the new skin. I didn't notice any "slowness". MIOMAP load's a little slower than it used to without the skin, but it is nothing out of the ordinary. Maybe an extra 5 seconds to load the program. I will play with the unit some more and will get back to you.

@devilz05:
I am seconding mandar_h's observation. MioMap is loading very slowly. ZIP file was just copied and renamed to DATA.ZIP. About a month I have been experiencing the slowness. You are stating that you just downloaded the skin and it works fine. What type of MIO are you using? Did you drive around after the new skin was installed?
devilz05 Posted - 22 avr. 2009 : 18:18:57
I just downloaded the 3/15/09 skin and it works fine. Did you unzip the file prior putting it in the MIOMAP/MIOMAP folder? If so, that is incorrect. Simply rename the downloaded zip file as "DATA" and put it in place of the old DATA file.

What other programs are you running other than Jerry's skin?

BTW Jerry, how can I load the custom car icons in your skin? I have looked, but can't seem to find the option.

Also, albeit on an unrelated note, is there a way to to remove the compass that is right next to the "current speed"? It makes the numbers smaller than they used to be.

Finally Jerry, if you release another version of your skin, can you make it so you can still see how fast you are going when you completely minimize the side menu on the right hand side that has the time, date and speed.

Thanks
Thanks

Jerry,
I downloaded and installed your 03/15 skin (MioMap_DATA_JD20090315) on my Mio C320. It is taking too long to load MioMap. Even after loading, the menus and buttons respond very slowly. I even copied the SYS.TXT from you zip. But still observed the same (slow) performance. I also found the same problem with MioMap_DATA_JD20090206.zip version.

Before this, I used your MioMap_DATA_JD20080904 skin and it worked fine for me.

Is there any performance issue with MioMap_DATA_JD20090315 on C320? Or am I missing something here?
Jerry Posted - 17 avr. 2009 : 18:30:49
Mike,
Here is a very "un"modest answer...
There only one skin for MIO C*20 series.
Check my website and let me know what do you think.

BTW, It's quite clear, and unfortunate, that MIO has abandoned US market and ruined their GPS line with "new" devices.
MikeVertx Posted - 09 avr. 2009 : 19:13:00
hey everyone,

so avbout a year ago I remember changing some settings when I went to Canada, and unlocking my mio c320, when I got back to NY though I set it back to iriginal settings because the pda style made the icons too small and was causing me frustration while trying to drive and actually use it as a GPS LOL!

I see there has been a ton added since then, and I actually started my new search of a map update, contacting mio got me absolutely nowhere and I'm lost. I would consider paying for an update because a ton of my POI are soo wrong and outdated that it casues me too lose time and money traveling to wrong destinations going ofcourse or finding a hotel thats not there anymore or gas station thats not open.

another key feature that is justr grinding my gears as lacking is when I want to find a hotel or gas thats on my route... there is no way to do that!!! If I go to current gps then it tends to want to send me backwards.... whatever i passed is gone to me as long as there's sometrhing coming up say within a half hour or so...

started looking for fixes for that stuff and came back here with 300+ pages though its a jumbled disastear trying to decipher things.

here's what I'm asking if at all possible if anyone can help:

1. can we make a list showing the available 'hacks'/'edits' ?

2. can someone, anyone, PLEASE, help me to find a map update (I can put it on SD I need POIs updated too though travel constantly throughout the USA all year round)

3. can we make a list of available skins/themes/icons ?

please?! :)

My time is also off by one hour, but agree with Jerry that its WINCE and/or MIOMAP, not the skin. His latest Skin updates just happen to be right after the DST rule switched in. I probably never noticed it before in prior years, and I suspect by April (when the old rules for DST kick in) it will resolve.

There was a C320 thread discussing this a long time ago:
http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=78879&whichpage=3

But it wasn't clear to me which fix was working in that thread, and since it impacts registry settings that get reset from rom on a hard reset, it would need to be a script integrated into our setup.

There should be no issue with ctype.dat - it's included inside data.zip

Guys,
re: "Time" - works fine for me. I don't think it has anything to do with the skin. Changing between iGo and Miomap may affect WinCE registries.
Also,

Please review SYS.TXT file that I've included inside the skin. It is the one I'm actually using and has plenty of useful settings and info.

You'll need to address this with Mio.
I'm pulling "magic" out of Miomap.exe - I know I'm not modest, but nobody even tried it before. Anything "real time" within a skin is complex, very sensitive and requires plenty of testing.

My bet it will fix itself in a week or two when the -old- Time switch date comes around. It is most likely a Microsoft bug and if any one knows the registry setting to change it I'd like to know.

I am now running DATA 20090315 with Compass, Icons, Loading and ...Large_Street_Numbers overrides. Hey dogman2, is it possible you could share your overrides? especially the Load ...and Large_street_Numbers and the Icons. The icons is the new icons for the main screen and the settings screen right? Thanks
jimmyt Posted - 17 mars 2009 : 19:06:03
jerry - nicely done! The addresses and next turn are now 10 for 10 on the new skin version. I still have the problem with the time being one hour off. If its a cold start where the time is not set, miomap is 1 hour off - if I run iGO8 from a cold start it sets the time correctly. If I then exit igo and start miomap, it keeps the correct time.. any thoughts? I tried with the july 07 version of miomap as well as the naked skin, both the original and yours without any overrides.. same thing. Funny thing is, the timezone.ini file that is in mio and your data.zip is the same in the igo8 data.zip - very weird. And while we are at it, I have always had trouble with the text to speech - When you are approaching a turn or anything that will cause the unit to start squaking at you - the map freezes while the voice loads - so you may be 400 feet from a turn, then the voice loads, then the map jumps to the actual position which may be another 200 feet down the road. Its a pain when you have two quick movements. Any one else experience this?

thanks

2. i.e look at the ss on your site titled 'Traffic Light Camera' you'll see the distance pop-up on the map. Is this an override too?

3. For the "Override Icons - Menu Find" , "Override Icons - Main Menu" and "Settings", I can just download and put it straight in the skin and then the special icons should show up? I'm not really interested in customizing any values in the override.

Could you say which ones are the duplicates? As they all have different names this is not obvious.
Jerry Posted - 16 mars 2009 : 02:32:51
dogman,

First, it's a mess - you have duplicates. I recommend:
1. remove all and try.
2. if you need all overrides, unzip them to one folder (with subfolders) in reverse priority. This will override less useful data and eliminate conflicts. Rezip result as one override.

Jerry,

Thanks for the update. I loved it. It's been a while I checked up on this forum. Well I just updated to the 2009.03.15. I do have couple of questions however.

1. How do I get to see the Map - Globe ? like the one you have in the screenshot? Is there a particular color scheme I need to use to see that?

2. What option in the sys.txt needs to be enabled for the distance pop-up to show on the map?

3. How do I install the "Override Icons - Menu Find, Override Icons - Main Menu and Settings"?

Does the update 03.15.2009 shows the Large Street by default or that has to be done by SYS.txt? or an override?

Thanks for all your efforts. My little donation isn't a lot but oh well, hope it makes a difference.

I made few adjustments that should make it more reliable. Plus, an ability to conrol it from the button.
I don't know what could cause your problem with timezones. I have no issue. Try running it "plain".
Again, I always suggest 2007'07 Miomap as most stable.

Just go to my website (1 click) and read requirements. Why would you need search here. Go to the source.

Quickly, the answer is NO. Only widescreen will work properly.

The skin is so complex that making it work for a "square" screen would require too much effort and I do not have an inscentive (I have C520).

Hate to ask this, but the search function seems to be very poor on this forum -

Will Jerry's skin work on my C230 (NOT wide screen)? and can I use it in addition to miopocket, or one or the other only?

When on route, only current street should alter. "Next turn" should work and "city name" should not be visible. What is the date of your Miomap.exe?
geepman Posted - 27 févr. 2009 : 22:14:57
Did I miss something or do something wrong? When I have street numbers option turned on, and am routing, I know longer get the "next turn" street name at the top of the screen. I just get the city. Not a big deal if I'm just driving around, but when routing, I always thought the next turn street name feature was valuable.

What are the optimal settings for the fastest route recalculation? Sometimes the new route recalculation takes place when I have gone apiece. I'm using Jerry's latest skin on my C320. Thanks.

jerry - do I sense that you are about to start to work on an igo8 theme :) - if not you should :)
Jerry Posted - 20 févr. 2009 : 22:44:29
About a month of work and testing. Just remember, that acuracy is very much dependent on the map you're using.
Also, you may notice not-sequenced even-odd numbers. Mio displays numbers that come from left and right and these are not exactly matching. Also, maps frequently are off vs physical location. This is normal.
For example Igo8 display 2 numbers one on left one on right. I can't do it.
I find this quite useful when reaching my destination. Additional benefit is that you see "current" township name.

It is a great thought even to invoke it. It is truly amazing to see when you drive by an avenue or street, the door number of the location decreasing or increasing depending on the location. From looking at the message, I can imagine how much struggle you have gone through.

k4955,
Sometimes one has to pay the price for the feature.
This feature was NOT designed by Mio. I used a lot of "trickery" to extract it. So it is possible that it may drain some resources.
Main program is most likely using some latency in case of signall loss. My code check position every second, so may be more demanding.
Thanks for interesting observation.
I hope the feature is useful. Next release will have a button definition (like Voice ON/OFF) which can be applied to one of 8 screen buttons.
BTW, I disabled "signal lost" warning and it does not bother me. I can observe the loss since "car" disappears. No need for an extra pop-up.

Jerry: Thank you so much for the release of new skins. When I had used the older skins dated Decemebr 2008, only after entering Holland/Lincoln or any tunnels, I would get the message "GPS signal lost". But now with new skin having "street name" turned on, between Route 78, NJ Turnpike much before reaching the tunnels, I get the message "GPS signal lost" few times. Immediatly I looked @ the config/detect, which respond positively. It does not happen if "street name" is turned off. It may be that you had already had the experience.
Once again, I thank you for the relentless support.
Jerry Posted - 17 févr. 2009 : 22:46:10
Not a bug, maybe an inconvenience.
It's possible to make "ON" default though, but this is still in early stage of testing, so I'd rather not.

Hi Jerry,
I was brain dead while playing with it. I forgot the ON/OFF buttons are for the next state. The Streets button showed ON but the function was turned off. I found a bug though...the Streets setting doesn't survive a exit and restart. You have to turn it on every time. Very minor nit...the version on the main/home screen shows 2008.02.06.
Thanks for the great work you continue to do.

Hi Jerry,
I'm stymied on how to get the new features to display. I looked at the included sys.txt and played around with the 5 variables you listed above. By their descriptions I don't see how they affect house numbers and city name. I also don't see any buttons to enable house numbers and city name on the My Miomap screen. What am I doing wrong?

Here is a Valentine gift from me.

I've modified my skin to show street house numbers in current street line and city name in target line. This feature can be activated on "My Miomap" screen (where all buttons are defined).

Please make sure you control SYS.TXT content, since it has impact on what and how is displayed.

show_frc=0
show_mapid=0
show_roadid=0
show_speed_limit=0
show_segmentid=0

Summary of all changes in this release:

- use vBtnAlpha (User_variable_def.ui) to control intensity of all buttons (previously - only corner buttons)
- allow to swith on/off speed limit on map (map options button "Speed ON/OFF")
- allow to swith on/off enhanced road info (map options button "Street ON/OFF")
- show / hide enhanced road info in current / target street stripe - see SYS.TXT for popup attributes
- fixed color of speedlimit on map (where available)
- added overspeeding mark to on-map speed limit (triangle)

Please follow instructions.
Once you put it on SD card, it's "invisible".
You'll need to tap-wait-tap poer button to activate it.
After that, just use Mio as before. It's hard to notice a difference (main application menu icons are different).
Use it from special button "toolbar" - screen print, route manager, etc.

Downloaded Data_override_20080904.zip
Commented the line with ; as mentioned in the ui file
And then rezipped it to Data_20080904.zip and put it in MioMap/SKIN folder on the SD card.
Restarted miomap, and I still get HAS_US_MAP error on startup, any tips?

I, too, noticed that the compass seems to have E and W backwards. But it turns out to be correct!

It's because it's not actually a compass, but an indicator of which direction you are traveling. When you are facing North, if you rotate to your right you'll be facing East. So, as the compass dial rotates left to match your movement (and the "needle" doesn't move), it needs to point to E. So, Jerry's compass graphic is correct -- E needs to be to the left of N!

- I will see how to disable speed limit mark
show_speed_limit applies only to "pop-up" info (when you click on the road)
show_speed_limit_on_map does not work with MioMap

re: Compass - as stated before - as is - can not be changed - if you don't like it use "compass override" and put your own image.

Jerry,

Sorry for the lack of information.

Miomap 3.3 Jan/2008- Updated from previous version and never had any issue,
C520,
Brazil Map 8.1.1 Nov/2008 and no issues concerning speed limits but my previous information regarding wrong speeds,
Data.zip Jerry´s 20081217

My main question remains, I really will like to get rid of the "speed limit" sign as it's useless, they show wrong data in most of situations.

Kind regards,

Jacques

jglener, tsk1979,

Guys, I have already asked multiple times. If you want help or advise, please provide details about your device (model), miomap.exe version and release date, your mio region/country, date of maps. As stated on my website, my skin requires Miomap v 3.3 dated 2007'07 or later.

Font colors can be controlled from "main_scheme.ui" file.
"AUS" fix is described and handled in "user_setup.ui" file.

Please use "override" files to adjust above.
tsk1979 Posted - 28 janv. 2009 : 03:11:04
Ok, I installed jerry's skin. It gives some error on startup(some AUS thing) and then miomap starts up, its much better than the default miomap skin!
I am kind of confused about latest version is it 2008 09 04

I think format is YYYY MM DD?
In that case I actually have older version

EDIT : I registered on the site and got the latest. That AUS error still comes on startup,I click okay and miomap starts
The new skin rocks!
However in the exported tracklog the altitude info is funny, I presume because I lost GPS signal in between, and had no gps height info for some time, so it showed up weird altitudes.
But thats okay
Now next step for me is to get gosmore working!

tsk1979 Posted - 28 janv. 2009 : 02:10:04

I am kind of struck with tracklogs.
I saved a tracklog, and it gave me a file called route.dat
However, this route.dat is unusable. Is there a way to convert the route.dat to a kml file or something?
I do not see any "export" option in the menu's I think mine has export disabled, I need to get some data.zip which does that, I am confused! Help
It will be great if there was a way to convert route.dat to a gpx or kml file!
jglerner Posted - 27 janv. 2009 : 23:29:42
I don't know if anyone else has experienced the same issue on the last release of Jerry´s skin.

From his own log I read:

quote:

- US "speed limit" sign (rectangle on white) used for US

Using it I get a white rectangle with white figures in a slight different white tone. In such configuration it's impossible to read any speed limit.
Actually I don't like to show the speed limit on screen as, normally, they are based on European's speed allowed limits and not in Brazilian´s traffic laws (which are not similar, neither in cities neither in speedways). Nevertheless, Mio delivers Brazilian maps with these unconformable (wrong) speed limits from the very first version.

So I went to SYS.txt and uncommented the following lines with the bellow modifications:

quote:

;use only when maps contain such info
show_speed_limit=0
show_speed_limit_on_map=0

When I rebooted my C520 (bought in USA), at first, I had no speed limits, which is all I wished, but, when I get GPS information the white rectangle in "withe limits" returns.

Is there any way to remove this screen speed limit? Or, if impossible how do I get readable figures, i.e., black on white?

And Jerry, thanks for your hard work!

Jacques

PS: When I was in USA, last month, the speed limits worked as a charm so the GPS is OK, the software is OK and the previous version of Jerry's skin had performed 100% with speed limits inside the "European pattern" circle.

You should put scheme file into \MIOMAP\MIOMAP\SCHEME\ folder.
My program has not been published yet. It uses GUI interface to define, edit and visualize map color atributes and generate scheme files.

Just to report back, the SYS.TXT tip helped. It seems alot more smooth now, however sometimes there is still a lag. If I am on another screen, or menu, it will freeze and become unresponsive to clicks when recalculating a route or if something is to be said.

I have also noticed sometimes there is a lag or performance decrease. for example the start/end flags will not wave smoothly. Also, when I go through options in the my miomap button configuration by pressing the arrow button quickly, it will go fast then pause. This can be heard in the clicking for each button press. I will hear fast clicks matching my button presses then nothing, then some quick clicks to catch up. Usually restarting miomap will solve this though.

I figured out the smart zoom thing, I was accidentally hitting the road stripe while trying to hit the menu button. apparently if I go too far left on the menu button, it picks it up as a road stripe button and switches between 2D and 3D. I've tried recalibrating the screen but it doesnt seem to make a difference.

Other than that, everything seems to be ok.

I have noticed that my corner buttons look different than yours.
for example in this screen http://www.simplyphoto.com/MIO/Skin/Map%20Screen%20With%20Circles_img.jpg

The menu and arrows are curved. On mine, they look the same as the 5 buttons in the middle.
enricong Posted - 14 janv. 2009 : 20:13:39
Thanks for the SYS.TXT tip, I actually just saw that on your website.

I'll take a look at the zoom limits, I didnt know they also affected angles.

When you say, calibrate your screen, do you mean the thing where you press a stylus on a bunch of crosses? I did do that.
Jerry Posted - 14 janv. 2009 : 20:00:18
Few comments...
1st - check your SYS.TXT - make sure you have enough "cache" - this will make speach work better and program run faster.
2nd - check your "smart zoom" settings (zoom-in/ot limits)
3rd - calibrate your screen
.. and last... enjoy

I don't have any of the problems you reported.
enricong Posted - 14 janv. 2009 : 19:37:43
I'm just got my C720 and am trying out Jerry's latest skin. Great job by the way, looks great.

I have noticed a few odd things, I'm not sure if its specific to the skin or an issue with miomap or some setting I'm overlooking.

1. Smart Zoom doesnt seem to be changing the angle. It seems to be stuck on the overhead view instead of the lower angle behind the car. It is zooming in at intersections correctly though. I know it will normally change angle as your approach an intersection, maybe the distance setting is set too high but I'm not sure where to change that.

2. If I want to hear the next command again, do I just tap once on the top right? I tried this a few times and it seems that sometimes I just tap once, sometimes I have to tap and hold otherwise it will stop.

Also, this is probably a miomap limitation/bug but the voice seems to get stuck on itself sometimes. If I have a few quick maneuvers, it will say something like "turn right on xxx then turn left". However I may have already made the right turn before it finished the statement so it will try to give the next command and get confused and get stuck. However eventually it spits out what it wants to say. Also, It seems to be unresponsive to inputs if it is trying to recalculate or say something.

Overall I think it is a pretty impressive device. Calculating a route seems a little bit slower than on my C310X, however the maps are more up to date now too so maybe there are more roads to consider. The screen on the C720 doesnt seem as bright as the C310X but I guess nothing can be done about this.

I know the note on Jerry's skin says it needs "MioMap July'2007", I'm using the 01/2008 so hopefully there arent too many differences. I also saw that it needs to be "unlocked" however I was able to access the files without doing anything.
Jerry Posted - 09 janv. 2009 : 01:18:58
vtahk,
Navigon can be slighly customized for settings, since it uses xml files (tried it on my daughter's 7200T).
No images to customize. Other stuff is quite encrypted.
Don't forget, Mio (iGo) skins are scripts compressed into Data.zip. Quite complex (no script documentation is available) but everything is in plain view. Once somebody encrypts it's code, it's obvious he wants to protect it, so it would be "illegal". Nobody wiil and can object to you changing SYS.TXT file - right?

Lieuallen Posted - 07 janv. 2009 : 20:35:04
Jerry -- I certainly don't want to minimize the tremendous job you've done. This is just a tiny add-on to your skin. And I'm certainly not looking to make any money! Option #1 gives the full details, so that anyone can do this on their own, absolutely free. I just asked for a nominal fee if anyone would prefer that I do the work for them -- but I don't want to do it for everyone (hence the small fee!).

If this is at all offensive or troubling, I'll remove option #2.

And I think the idea of providing an "example" override is a great idea. I've put together a generic one; it's downloadable via www.geocities.com/lieuallen/Mio/Sample_Cars.zip

Customized 3-D Auto Graphics for Jerry's skin

Courtesy of artwork-igo8.blogspot.com, I found a file which contained 268 3-D autos (although some of them aren't actually cars!) for GPS software (originally intended for iGo8, so a number of the cars are European). I have managed to incorporate these into Jerry's skin (replacing the 6 different colors that he provides with customized auto graphics). For example, on my own Mio, I have the following "cars": PT Cruiser, Jaguar S-type, MG TC, the Batmobile, X-34 Landspeeder, and Superman!

You, too, can have your own customized 3D car graphics. You can do this one of two ways:

1) Download the 3Dautos.zip file, and extract the 6 graphics you want. Rename them to Car_1 through Car_6.bmp (they may need to be resized, and you'll want to alter the color to match your car). Place them in a mio/480_272 folder and prepare a ZIPped override file. Edit the route_settings_480_272.ui file in Jerry's skin to replace the six colors with the name of your cars (8 character limit). Add this file (in the mio/480_272/ui folder) to your override file. Put the override file in your miomap/skins folder and restart MioMap. Pick which graphic you'd like to see!

2) E-mail me at lieuallen@hotmail.com and let me know which 6 graphics you'd like. For $5, I'll prepare the override file for you, and e-mail it to you. Put the override file in your miomap/skins folder and restart MioMap. Pick which graphic you'd like to see!

Either way, you'll now have your own cars displayed in MioMap! This override file won't affect any of the other features of Jerry's skin, and won't affect any other override files you might have.

For details and examples of my 6 graphics, go to
www.geocities.com/lieuallen/Mio/3Dauto.html

I have a new problem. Just when things were going great. :)

Now when I run MioMaps, I get some strange behavior with the mini-bar. The mini-bar isn't always visible. The triangle to minimze at the top works intermittently (don't care about it's visibility or not). Sometimes when I click on the buttons at the bottom of the info window (info, POIs, TMC, Route) it actually gives me functions that are part of the mini-bar (keyboard, pocketnav, etc.). Then, I get mixed graphics and flickering going on with some MioMaps graphics and some mini-bar graphics.

When I can minimize MioMaps (when the triangle works), it leaves graphics remnants from the MioMaps info screen buttons where the mini-bar usually is. I also get flickering going on and strange behavior with Pocketnav when trying to switch between apps.

Anyone seen this or know how to fix? Not sure if this is a MioPocket or Jerry Skin issue????

PS Running MioPocket 2.0 R34(33b) on Mio c520 with Jerry's skin on MioMaps 3.3

Thanks!!
