Note by GpsPasSion : Below is icelolly's adaptation of the original Medion customization method (see full article for more links), enjoy !

a)Remove original SD card and insert New one (Turn off device first)
b)Connect to PC and establish guest connection.
Now follow these instructions (This is MY modified text taken from the .txt file in the zip file you downloaded):
1. Connect the Advent to your PC via ActiveSync and click 'explore'
2. Copy 'regedit.exe' from the .zip file and paste into \Windows\StartUp.
3. Copy 'modified.reg' into the root(main folder) on the device
4. Soft Reset your device using the stylus.
5. When the Advent reboots it will automatically launch Regedit. Click 'File | Import' and then locate the 'modified.reg' file we copied in Step 3, double-click it and it will then import it automaticaly.(now close this page using the "X" in top RH corner
6. (using the active sync in explore mode) Locate regedit.exe in \Windows\StartUp. Cut this file and paste into \Windows\Programs .Copy 'showtaskbar.exe' from the .zip file and paste into \Windows\StartUp
7. Finally, reset your device once more with the stylus and it will boot to the WinCE desktop.

C)You should now have a thin grey line at the bottom of your screen. If touched it will bring up the usual options in Win CE.(More of this later)
d)Select add/remove programs on active sync and delete the advent program.

Hello all
Ive just bought an Advent GPS 400 (A Medion clone?). Can this be set up to run Tom Tom. There are one or two articles about on this site which I have tried but I'm not sure wether the operating system (Win ce and Navteq) is compatible with these methods. The nearest I have got is using the instructions here:

Any help is much welcome

Well... That's a strange think because I'm planning to buy a TomTom 6 but what I'm not sure is aditional word in the name of the product : 'version for PDA'. Would it work with my Advent 400? Or should I buy other program because it will work only with iPods? And if so, where should I put the installing files from the TomTom? On the SD card or should I connect the GPS to computer via USB and transfer data just to the machine? There's a problem because my system (Win XP) says that the GPS is not installed properly and it cannot find drivers (despite the fact i've installed from the CD recieved with the GPS).
Thank you for a fast answer and if that's not a huge problem please for it again ;).

Anna
This thread assumes that you already have a version of TT to load onto your advent. If you had the english version then yes it would be in english no problem! Buying a map of poland would maybe a little expensive and may not work with an earlier version of TT that I suspect most of the people here have. The problem here is that if you legaly purchased the software and polish map for your advent then the cost may be not worth it. The original advent system is not that bad but certainaly not anywhere as good as TT. Perhaps you should see if you can get an english version from somewhere and also the map you want.

Hi Guys!
I'm sorry if my question seems to be crazy or there's already answer for it in one of the posts... Anyway, I've just recieved my Adevnt GPS and it's from Germany so has this language on board and only map of this country. My problem is that I don't know this language very well and the map is actually useless for me because I need map of Poland right now...
So the question is : Can I change the language somehow? For English?
And the second problem : On the CDs delievered with this machine there's no map of Eastern Europe... Can I download it legally and if so, from here?
And one another problem : would PC Navigator 6 work on the Advent?
I'm really ashamed for all this question but to tell the true I've got no f**ing idea how to deal with these problems...
Thank You for any attention or adivces and sorry for weak English.
Greetings, Anna

TMC is for traffic management control it is tuned in to a radio frequency but the UK is a bit sparse

Hi

Have anyone tried to install the TMC receiver so the TMC signals can be read and worked through the Advent GPS400?

Jake
I only use my Advent for navigation and not for any other purpose so can't comment on "other software" not working. As regards the POI editor it works fine as long as you set it up correctly. You should set up POI on your PC. There are no programs to load onto the Advent! When it (Your PC) is set up to download latest camera locations then it downloads this information into your GB map folder. You must tell POI where these updates are going or it will give an error. How's that explanation so far?
