Comments, road tests of the new maps, etc. should go in this topic.

Posted - 13 sept. 2010 : 01:57:46 [ed]I have the situation all fixed. I guess with the new update there was not enough room in the onboard memory to take my map. update.I'll settle with just the USA for the time being. |

Posted - 10 sept. 2010 : 04:07:18 All, I too have the Lifetime maps on my 1490T when i try to update my maps 2011.20 my nuvi tells me i dont have enough memory. do i have to install more memory? or is this a fluke(problem)The site will let me download the SW, but when i go to install it i get that error.. I have never had to install or delete memory to get any of my maps to work. I think i had the US and Canada.
Any else having the same problem? thank you
@Lilla - 4 hours? You and i have the same unit.. but 4 hours? wow!! i was wondering why my "update" on took 5 minutes.... sounds like i'll be doing this one while i sleep thanks for the tip. |

This is a guess but what do you see if you go to Tools - Settings - Map - Map Info with the SD card installed in the Nuvi? If you only see City Navigator 2011.20 (latest version) listed there then my guess is that both the US and Canada maps have been updated. If you see City Navigator 2011.20 plus another City Navigator entry like 2011.10 then probably the US maps have been updated and not the Canada maps. You can always confirm this by ejecting the SD card and then look at Tools - Settings - Map Info. The second City Navigator entry should no longer be listed.
What I see, with the card in, is just one map, which says it is 2100.20 (lower 49 states). So this leaves me still wondering if the Canadian maps on the SD card were updated, or are even usable. |

UPDATE
Garmin has revised the download procedures and it is now possible to download the map update ONCE and then use that copy to update all your devices that you have purchased a lifetime update for.
The chance is in the screen where the ADVANCED tab was originally shown. This tab is now called INSTALL OPTIONS and when selected you will see a new 'button' which reads something like "leave a copy of downloaded files on the computer".
@rick, It seems that Garmin has only updated the Windows version of the download procedure. When using the Mac version (Garmin Mac Update v 4.0.6), there is no tab named INSTALL OPTIONS. All that's provided is a checkbox to "Also install the map for use on my Mac". If checked, this will install the map dataset into ~/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Maps. But it does not leave a copy of the downloaded file on the computer (not anywhere I can find).
If Mac users are looking for it, the map dataset is placed in a folder named CNNANT_2011_20_mdr

Is the option still there to load a copy of the maps onto your computer (MapSource) too as well as leaving copies of the files on your computer ?

Let me download the map at my convenience, then upload it to my GPS at my convenience. I usually do my largest downloads at work where I have plenty of bandwidth.
The thing I’m unsure of: As of the previous update of my 250 (using a March 2009 Mac Mini, OS 10.6.4, 2GB ram), I had the US installed on the GPS itself and Canada installed on an SD card. This updater only told me the update was complete, but I’m unsure if it only updated the US on the unit or if it updated Canada on the SD card as well. Is there an easy way to tell?
I have the lifetime updates for this unit. |

Posted - 14 août 2010 : 04:00:46 Yes I'm not impressed with the POIs as I'm looking for many new stores in the Palo Alto area in California. What's odd is that they don't have all the stores of a chain of stores/restaurants. For instance they have the "Whole Foods" store in Palo Alto, but not in Los Altos, hard to understand how that could happen... |

Posted - 10 août 2010 : 17:04:34 I would hardly consider San Diego CA a rural area! Furthermore, one of the issues is my branch of a Credit Union is NOT listed. They have other branches in the POIs but NOT this one. They could confirm it by looking it up in a phone book, or with a simple "Google"! I have learned to live with this and generally try to look up destinations by address rather than depending on the POIs. However, I suppose I should not really complain as I have found no other brand of GPS which lists this branch. In fact one of my sources of entertainment is is go try searching for this POI on demo GPS's with the though being the first brand do get this right will be my 750 replacement. |

Posted - 10 août 2010 : 12:50:24 From what I've read, NavTeq uses the errors reported by users to assign their own survey cars to check them out before incorporating the data into their mapping products. In rural areas this could take years before a survey car is assigned to your particular street; if at all. There are some parts of the country which NavTeq will probably never get detailed, accurate street-level information for due to the sheer size of the country and shortage of survey personnel. Even after validating the reported errors/omissions, it takes 1-2 years to appear in consumer product's maps.
It must be even worse in countries where NavTeq has little presence. |

Posted - 10 août 2010 : 03:00:40 I wouldn't count on it taking less than another 42 years. I sent in some corrections 3 years ago and they have yet appear in the updates!

Posted - 10 août 2010 : 01:59:27 Have to wonder if you have sent the correction in to Navteq using their Map Reporter on Navteq.com. If not you may have to wait another 42 years before a Navteq vehicle drives down your road. |
