The response from zdaokimo points to a video which shows Miopocket working on an NVM-4370, but neither zdaokimo nor the video explains HOW someone got Miopocket working on the NVM-4370. Has anyone installed Miopocket to an SD card and got it working on the NVM-4370, and if so...what exact steps did they take to do so?? Thanks for anyone's input. I'm dying to try this, but in the last hour of looking have not found enough into to even try it. The last thing I want to do is brick my brand new GPS.

Toolman,
If you haven't yet, look around for any unlock info for your Sanyo device. If you can find an existing unlock for your device, for example, you can see how it does it and then use that method with MioPocket. Alternately, if you can find any steps online for unlocking your device, try using those with MioPocket. The important thing is to not limit your searching to only help with getting MioPocket onto your device. Just about any unlock info for your device will help you in figuring out how to get MioPocket on it.

BTW, if you're worried about bricking your device, then concentrate, first, on finding out if and how your device can be unlocked from SD card.

Osprey, thanks for the response and advice. The Sanyo NVM-4370 doesn't seem to be as popular as some other brands/models, so there just isn't much info to be found. I looked thru every Post on this site that mentions 4370, and have googled a lot, but nobody gives any advice on how to unlock this unit in any way, except for two people in THIS forum, who mention using the Miopocket SDfree to unlock the NVM-4370, WITHOUT giving the slightest hint what steps they took to get there. And the file structure of the Sanyo is so different from any examples in the readme that comes with Miopocket that I just can't seem to translate instructions for another brand into what I need.

Last night, just for fun I tried putting ceDesktop on my unit like someone mentioned on a different Sanyo (a 4050), and then had to use the restore DVD to get my Navigation working again. All I did was rename my navigation software exe to ...old, and renamed cdDesktop.exe to the appropriate file name. That got me into the WinCE desktop, where I played for a few minutes, then when I changed things back and tried to get back into the Navigation software, it said it couldn't find the maps and instructed me to insert an SD card with the maps. Luckily they included a restore-DVD with the unit, and about 40 long minutes later I had my Navigation back. Kinda spooked me, I gotta say. I've hacked multiple cellphones and game consoles in the past, but this toy is brand new to me, and I'd just REALLY like some step-by-step instructions before I attempt anything again! Come on, someone who's done this to the Sanyo NVM-4370 - give some instructions on how you got there, please please?

Toolman,
Well, it sounds like you unlocked it successfully, then. What, exactly, is stopping you from unlocking MioPocket via the same method? If it's instructions, just copy the MioAutoRun (and, optionally, the Media folder) to the root of your flash drive (assuming that's where your navigation software is), then copy MioMap.exe, MioMap.mscr and MortScript.exe from the SDFree folder to the navigation software folder, then, like before, rename your navigation EXE to something else, followed by renaming MioMap.exe to the navigation EXE's original name and MioMap.mscr to the same name, but with .mscr instead of .exe. Once you have MioPocket installed, you'll have to point one of the nav app icons to the renamed navigation EXE so that you can run it from MioPocket.

Okay, here are my instructions. It's a helluva lot more than anyone has begun to mention about the NVM-4370 specifically, so I hope it helps the next person who comes along!!

- when you plug your NVM-4370 into your PC via USB, the directory/folder you are looking at is \MyFlashDisk, even though you won't see that anywhere. The folder MobileNavigator is within that, or \MyFlashDisk\MobileNavigator.

- I don't know if there is a way to get this going via SDcard or not, I suspect not, with our unit.

- copy the folders (from the Miopocket software that you unzipped) MioAutoRun and Media into the root of \MyFlashDisk on your NVM-4370 (again - I just mean into the open area, so that when you're done, you will now see three folders; MobileNavigator, Media and MioAutoRun.

- in the MobileNavigator folder on your NVM-4370, rename MobileNavigator.exe to MobileNavigator_orig.exe.

- in the SDFree folder of the Miopocket software that you unzipped, change the name of MioMap.exe to MobileNavigator.exe, change the name of MioMap.mscr to MobileNavigator.mscr, and then copy those two files AND Mortscript.exe to the MobileNavigator folder on the NVM-4370.

- unplug the NVM-4370 from the USB cable. When you launch the Navigator software, you'll get a choice of running your original Navigation software, or Miopocket - choose Miopocket. You'll then get another choice, and somewhere I read a guy's Posting whose only advice on installing Miopocket onto the NVM-4370 was to choose NO at this point, so that's what I did. At that point, Miopocket goes thru an install procedure. Your unit reboots (I'm typing this from memory, forgive me if I get anything out of order) and this time when you click on the Navigation icon, you'll see something start to load up, then your unit turns off. Kinda scary, but no big - when you turn it back on, you'll find yourself at the desktop of Miopocket, which is beautiful!

- when you try to launch Miomap the first time, you'll get an invitation to show the icon where your real navigation application is, show it \MyFlashDisk\MobileNavigator\MobileNavigator_orig.exe, and the next time you use that icon, your normal, Sanyo based Navigation software will pop up.

And that's as far as I've gotten. I now have Miopocket running, and I can run my Navigation software, so I'm pretty freakin happy. Thanks, Osprey, for all your help!!!

Toolman,
You're welcome and I'm glad that you figured it out. Also, it's nice that you provided instructions. As you said before, so many people post "I figured it out!" without thinking at all of the next guy to be in their predicament.

The only error in your instructions that I can see is that the files in the SDFree folder are not named MioAutoRun.exe and MioAutoRun.mscr; they're named MioMap.exe and MioMap.mscr. That's a not a big deal, as I suspect most people will figure out what you meant, but I thought that I'd mention it just in case.

BTW, since it seems like your device has Mobile Navigator, you can use the "Navigator" icon on the Navigation page instead of using the MioMap icon. You could also edit the Favorites page (MioAutoRun\Skin\Pages\VistaUltimate_Favorites.ini for the default 480x272 skin) to change the MioMap icon on that page to the Mobile Navigator icon (and you can change the label below it, as well). That way, you wouldn't have to use another program's icon to launch your software and MioPocket would be more customized.

Cong. Toolman,
Sorry, I just saw you post today. I gave my mio C320 to my friend and enjoy my sanyo GPS now. Although I can't figure out how to use the wifi as mio C320 to watch youtube, I still enjoy the extra function like bluetooth and Av-in. This OS/dll inside this device seems very similar to mio Cx20 so we are able to install miopocket directly and almost all functions work flawless.

ir8cobra, the first time I made any change to my nvm-4370 (I put ceDesktop.exe on and changed it's name to the navigation exe) I got the EXACT SAME THING. Scared me to death. If you put your Restore DVD that came with your unit into a PC's DVD drive, it will start up automatically and ask you to attach your NVM-4370 - when you do, it will automatically delete all Navigation software and reinstall it all. It takes a long time, maybe 40 minutes? Then my machine was back to normal. I was really afraid to do anything after that, thus my pleading above for instructions, but I just couldn't leave it alone and tried hacking it again, and this time when I did the Miopocket thing, it worked fine, no more message about an sd card.

There is nothing on the DVD except for this very automatic delete-and-reinstall procedure.

I'm sorry, maybe that's going to happen to everyone? I thought it was just something I did wrong when playing with the cdDesktop.exe thing.

when you did the Restore DVD did it erase the. miopocket stuff and you had to start all over again or did it leave the MioAutoRun and Media and just restored your navigator folder ?
Oh yeah what version of miopocket you running i tried 40 and 41

When I did the restore DVD, I had ONLY added ceDesktop.exe to my NVM-4370 and changed it's name to MobileNavigator.exe. That worked fine, but when I renamed it to something else and put the original navigator exe back to normal and tried to start it I got that please insert sd card message. That's when I did the DVD restore thing, before I even tried Miopocket. I think the DVD put a different version of the maps on there, because before I did the restore there was a file called autorun.inf (I still have it on my pc desktop) which called out to the diagnose.exe file. That's not there any more at all, I noticed (the autorun.inf). So after the whole restore thing, I felt like if I screwed anything up again, I could do the restore again. That's when I did as outlined in my instructions (regarding installing Miopocket), and it worked. Now, to be honest, it looks beautiful, but Miopocket does not run perfectly on our device. A bunch of the games want you to specify an exact device before they will run, and ours isn't listed. A graphic emulator worked for Zuma, but not for the other ones I tried. The mini bar, which is a very useful and almost necessary tool kept disappearing, the Start Menu/taskbar almost always disappeared but left that part of the screen blank, several of the tools and apps locked up the unit and I was forced to reset, and so on and so on. I tried multiple skins, and none were any better. I'm glad to have played with it, but have returned my unit back to normal. Miopocket wasn't written for our device and we're lucky it worked at all. Unless Osprey feels the need to buy an NVM-4370, I doubt it's going to get much better for us?

thats kinda the reason i wanted to try out miopocket. it may just come down to our hardware i have a 30 gb zune and the videos ive put on it play are great no chop. oh well.

To anyone that can help. I've dl'd mio pocket 2.0 r42 and would like to install it on my sanyo nvm 4370. I've looked over both Toolman's and Osprey's posts in this thread. I'm having an entirely different, I think, problem. I hook up the GPS via USB, click on the drive, it then shows me the the folder MobileNavigator. I copy the two folders, Media and MioAutoRun, from the extracted .rar file, but when I try to paste them into the designated drive for my GPS, I get an i/o error and my USB shuts down the connection to my GPS. I then get a "delayed write" error from Windows saying that all info has been lost on the designated drive for my GPS. Fortunately, the 4370 still has all the files and functionality it always had, so nothing is actually lost, just Windows thinks it is. Any ideas?

Nevermind. I figured out the problem. It was the USB controller. I needed to reinstall the drivers. The weird thing is that the 4370 is the first device to let me know I had a problem.

The answer is yes. I didn't like how miopockets worked on this unit so I uninstalled it. I had about 1.22 gigs free on the internal drive space, so I renamed MobileNavigator to MobileNavigator_old. I had a program called Mireo viagps ver.3 which has a small footprint. I installed it and changed the folder to MobileNavigator and the .exe file to MobileNavigator.exe.

It worked perfectly, it even detected the gps and found my position in about 1 minute.

[EDIT - FORUM RULES]

I was nervous about deleting the original MobileNavigator file, but now that I know it will work, time to start experimenting...

Hi San, I am looking to buy the Sanyo, but I have few questions. Since you already have this, can you please help me?
1. Is there anyway that I can access the SD card without installing Mio Pocket? Because I want to run different nav softwares from SD card. If no, can we access it if Mio Pocket is installed?
2. How is the Bluetooth and FM Transmitter quality? Because of these featres I am interested in this. Otherwise I would go to Mio C320.
3. Finally, how is the overall system response (actually I want to know how much RAM its got. I googled for it but no luck). I hope it is 64MB.
Thanks.

Ok....this is what I've found so far. Even with miopockets installed when a navigation program is run from the sd card the unit would give a memory error. So I don't think it is possible. However with 4 gigs of internal storage, there is more than enough room for other programs.

The gps port is on com 1 at 38400 baud rate.

I haven't tried the bluetooth yet, but the fm transmitter is on the weak side imo. I've tried several different channels and the quality ranges from poor to fair.

[edit - forum rules]

I was also looking at the c320, but the 99.00 price tag and the fm transmitter really pulled me to buy the sanyo.

The default sanyo navigation software and maps is ok...but the interface is poor. Oh, the system responce with the default navigation software seemed slow, the unit would lag behind by a second or so at highway speed. With polnav running on the sanyo last night, there wasen't really a lag issue anymore, so it was software induced.
I'll let you know about Igo8 this evening.

Tony,

You're renaming the wrong file. Most likely you have Windows configured to not show file extensions for known file types. This could be very confusing, because of the additional .id file you've been renaming within the SD Free folder. If you want, you can go into the windows folders options by simply going to any folder within windows. On the menu bar, click on tools, then folder options, then click on the view tab. You should see a checkmark in the "hide extensions for known file types" box. Uncheck that and things will become clearer.

Having some problems on my install,
MioPocket is running fine other than the random quirks
(This is with the 4370)
I'm running the latest version of MioPocket 2.0 release 42
First off, this is the install method i used

quote:

**********************************
Use SDFree method

1. Hook up your#65279; GPS to a PC
2. Copy MioAutoRun, SDFree, and Media folders to the root of GPS FlashDrive
3. In MobileNavigtor folder, rename MobileNavigator.exe to MobileNavigator_orig.exe
4. Rename all 3 files begin with Miomap in SDFree folder to MobileNavigator (keep the extension intact)
5. Copy all 3 files and MortScript.exe to MobileNavigator folder
6. Unplug the GPS and launch MioPocket via the Sanyo's Navigation button. MobileNavigator on top is Sanyo GPS apps.
**********************************

Certain programs cause issues with me and i'm trying to find some resolution to these problems

The most common is the
quote:

"GAPI device mismatch"

The selected device:

Mio Digiwalker C320, CE 5.0,
480x272
Display: 480 x 272 x 16
OS: Windows CE v5.00

Doesn't match your device.
Choose another device ?

and my response to this error message is always no
on top of that, i occasionally get these crazy error messages that are in german
that i have no idea what they say, and normally it causes the GUI to crash and then the whole unit to freeze

Also, I don't even know where to begin to find any software or add-on applications
as well as alternative GPS software, Any light on this subject as well will help

What is the red triangle for in the upper left corner while navigating? Will it somehow allow me to "alt-tab" between programs?
For all teh programs that will not work, and say "not Mio device", have you figured out a selection in the ones you can choose that will work?

Hello Osprey,

First, thank you for MioPocket! It was been a great joy installing and playing with the program.

I have looked for hours through the forum but have not been able to find sollutions to my problems. I hope U can help me.

I have installed MioPocket 42 on my Sanyo NVM-4370 using the steps suggested by Toolman (http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=123189). After MioPocket loads, I launch Task Manager to close Sanyo's PNA shell and Contacts programs to free up memory. I leave Sanyo's native Bluetooth program running in the background.

I am able to launch all programs (some with glitches). Here's a list of them with any glitches:

When I launch Sanyo's native navigation software (called Mobile Navigator, version 1.00.00.02), bluetooth seems to work fine (I'll need to test it some more). When I close the app and return to MioPocket by clicking on the upper-right corner of the screen, Task Manager takes longer than usual to load.

Also, after I put MioPocket in "Standby" mode and launch MioPocket again, I get some error messages when running programs (e.g., Task Manager: "not a valid WinCE app"). Another glitch: the MioPocket icons located on the right-hand side and the tray/panel at the bottom disappear every now and then.

Ok. So here are my questions:

1) Is there a bluetooth app available for MioPocket?
2) Any way for me to fix the "Standby" glitch?

3) Any to fix the disappearing icons in MioPocket?

The Sanyo NVM-4370 launches a program called PnaShell.exe when it boots up. I installed MioPocket by renaming the navigation software and having MioPocket installer run when I click on the navigation icon from within the Sanyo pna shell program.

I'm thinking that if install MioPocket before the Sanyo PNA shell program runs by renaming and changing the PnaShell.exe to MioMap.exe (etc.) this might fix some of the glitches. However, I cannot view the Shell disk from my PC when I connect the unit via usb cable. By the way, I can view and access the shell disk from MioPocket.

What are your thoughts? Is there any way for me to get access to the shell disk from my PC? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you create7 for the info on killing programs under miopockets.

One of the issues I found was the fm transmitter thing. The navigation instructions would be really loud and the music would be soft.

I edited the apshell.ini file to get the music volume closer to the navigation instruction volume.

As you see I moved it to 3000 from the default of 2xxx (can't remember).

the path is windowsce\shelldisk\shell\apshell.ini

for whatever reason I could not edit it on my device under miopockets. I had to copy it to my computer, edit the file and paste the fileback.

If you change any .ini file to a .txt file you can then edit it right on the 4370. Just remember to change it back to an .ini file when your done.

Tony, you cannot launch Sanyo's navigation program from the Sanyo shell. You need to launch it from MioPocket. I recommend that you close the Sanyo shell after you load MioPocket (to get to MioPocket click on the lower-right of the screen (2nd icon from the right) until you see the MioPocket screen. Then, go to Tools, Task Manager, and close the Contacts and Sanyo Shell programs (you will get an error message when running navigation software if you don't).

To launch the navigation program, choose any icon from the Navigation screen and click it. MioPocket will have find the navigation program. It should be located in MyFlashDisk.

I should warn you that MioPocket is a little glitchy on the 4370 (see my previous post for info).

Good luck!

Hey Sanyo Owners,

I got some info from Osprey that really helped me out! I hope this info is also helpful to you.

I have my Sanyo running MioPocket with almost no glitches! Here's my setup:

1) When installing MioPocket, I have set-up the unit to close pnashell.exe (Sanyo's native application). This eliminates the need to close pnashell using TaskManager (go to http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=109690&whichpage=372 for info on how to do this).

You should be able to also launch the Sanyo bluetooth app (see below) when launching MioPocket (I'll have to play with this).

2) Osprey also suggested that I use the Stopword skin to eliminate the lost icons glitch. This is working like a charm! (See same thread from above).

3) I also got Bluetooth working under MioPocket. Just launch the btgui.exe application found in the Sanyo shell directory. You can also add the bluetooth app to MyApps for easier launch.

I have not played with FM transmitter in MioPocket yet. But I plan to do so soon. However, I don't think I'll use it much (I prefer to hook up the unit to my tape deck with a casette adapter).

Regarding the exact version of Windows CE, CPU type/frequency and RAM size could you:
1. Run MioAutoRun\Programs\ResInfo.exe (Resources icon in MioPocket's Tools tab) and report the info in the System tab.
2. Run MioAutoRun\Programs\Media Player\player.exe (Media Player icon in MioPocket's Multimedia tab), go to Options->Settings and report the info there.

(seems also some 16GB SDHC cards work with it, I would not be surprised they work with the Sanyo too!)

I have seen that it only charges in standby ( the light on the power button lit up) mode. It wont charge when connected to computer as a storage drive. It won't charge when the switch(on/off) is in of position as well. I don't remember what it does when in active sync mode.

Well I didn't do anything special. Just changed the baudrate and port like you said and there it goes. I have the software loaded on my sdhc class6 16gb card. I don't have bluetooth running. Did you try selecting the option to close mio pocket when running gps software and see if it makes any difference.( I am not doing it on mine)

Can you tell me how to get the bluetooth working. I had it closed initially by throwing a kill statement in startup file. I manually re ran it after every thing loaded up. it seems to connect to my phone, bluetooth light lit up but doesnt give me any options to pick the call up on the gps screen.

I was looking to see if I can get the volume buttons working on the same lines as of the Power button (thanks to tronik). but no luck still.

Telrod11, you can edit your apshell.ini file to make the mp3 player volume closer to the navigation volumn. The only way I can get to the file though is through activate sync. the path is windowsce\shelldisk\shell\apshell.ini

Adjust the mp3 volumn to 3000.

Hello richbutler,

Here are a few answers:

-I haven't used FM transmitter much, but the time that I played with it the reception wasn't too strong. Again, I didn't play with it a great deal.

-The native navigator is called MobileNavigator (version 1.xx), so it might very well be an older version of Navigon's MN software.

-Yes, it does have 4 gig internal flash.

-I paired the unit to my Pantech Duo, and it works great! Not sure if it's stereo or mono though.

Hope this helps.

When you write "it boots up," are you referring to Sanyo navigation software booting up? Or MioPocket booting up? I have my device set up so it doesn't load contacts or btgui or any other native navigation software.

It basically boots up the Sanyo nav software. I press the Navigation button and MioPocket loads automatically.

You might consider looking at Osprey responses to my questions in the MioPocket thread (http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?whichpage=384&TOPIC_ID=109690#858329), or TroNik's messages on this thread.

You could also reinstall the Sanyo software and reinstall MioPocket.

Good luck!

themagni, sounds like the ShellDisk (sanyo proprietary disk) is corrupted. MyFlashDisk might be corrupt too as you're unable to launch Navigation. If you are still able to see the internal disk (MyFlashDisk) via your PC then chances are you can look for the corruptions and delete them. MyFlaskDisk is easy to restore as the unit comes with a Map DVD. You might need to format it prior restoring from DVD. Check the FAT table first.

Or try to substitute MobileNavigator.exe with SoftButton.exe (do the rename trick) and see if you can launch it. If this works, kill all the processes that live on ShellDisk via SoftButton. Then run CECMD or FileManCE to inspect the corrupted files/folders. Delete and restore them if necessary. Of course you need a good copy of ShellDisk in order to accomplish this task. Let the forum know if you need one. Some of us can share.

If MyFlashDisk ever becomes corrupted then just hard reset the device and connect it to the PC. Windows can see the MyFlashDisk as a storage drive and you can chkdsk or format it.
Now if ShellDisk becomes corrupted then the device can still be restored. The first file being executed is Windows\CeLauncher.exe that resides in ROM. After reverse-engineering it, I found that it can launch except of \ShellDisk\Shell\PnaShell.exe the following files: \SDMMC\AUTORUN.INF and \MyFlashDisk\AUTORUN_USB.INF. In these files you need to specify the path of the file to execute plus a checksum at the end of the file. I have configured them to run MioAutoRun.exe. I have uploaded them here:

1. Is the original Nav Sanyo software(I think it is called Mobile Navigator) slow at updating while using it to Navigate after installing MioPocket on the Sanyo 4370?

2. I am also interested if anyone has been successful using WIFI with the Sanyo 4370 and MioPocket

3. I notice that I can not write to my external 2 gig SD mem card when the card is in the Sanyo and connected via USB 2.0 to my PC- Is this normal?

Thanks for any help in advance,

Don2,

1) The Sanyo navigation software runs normal. You might have to close MioPocket when running navigation software. This is done easily by going to settings, and changing MioPocket settings.

2) I haven't played with Wifi

3) I am able to write to my SD card when it's in the device and the device is connected via usb cable.

Thanks for the answers. I was concerned about loading MioPocket if it slows down Nav when the main reason I bought the GPs was for NAV.

Interesting about the SD card. I can write to my 2 gig SD card using my card reader connected to the PC via USB. But when I connect the GPS with SD mem card in the slot I do not see a drive letter or any option except the On Board Flash memory. Maybe my SD card is not formatted correctly for the Sanyo although the Sanyo plays music files fine off of the SD card.

Actually, if you're connecting the device to your computer while running the Sanyo software, then you will not be able to see the SD card on your computer.

After you install MioPocket, however, you will be able to access your SD card via USB cable.

I got Mio Pocket loaded on my Sanyo this evening. And I must say I am impressed. I was sure nervous about installing it and crashing my 1 wk old Sanyo. I figured out how to get back to the GPS Navigator which was important to me.

During the install the main difference I experienced was the screen where you are told to select "No" flew by so fast I could not even select "No".

I need to figure out how to launch Windows Task Manager next so I can control some of the apps/shells mentioned in this forum.

Seeing the Simpson trailer movie being played on the GPS was probably the highpoint of my first experience with Mio Pocket.

Now I need a AC USB power plug.

Thanks for the help to you and others on this board.

But if you select more skins this arrow disappears and I had to do a soft reboot to get out of it. Maybe I am missing some obvious easier way to get back.

I"m new to the forum. I've liked the features of NVM-4370 so I've exchanged it 3 times now. The first time icons just disappeared. The second after coming back from a long Trip it gave those " XXXX Not a valid application window CE App". The third time just couple weeks ago I started getting the same errors as you stated above. I just wante to let you know that I believe these errors have nothing to do with you installing MIOPocket. I've gotten the same couple times now and I only kept the original Sanyo software. Everytime I had to return it. In my last case I did get "Contact not valid Windows CE app", then I clik ok and then would get "BTGui not a valid window CE App", and would not be able to proceed further I could not even hook it up on the Computer....So I just wanted to let you know that I've seen the same problems as you without poking into the systems at all. NVM-4370 has really good features for the price but poor quality.

Thanks for all you guys are doing I read everything today on NVM-4370 in this forum. I may try hacking the new one I got today once I understand how well. Thanks a lot gugys!

I have been using the bluetooth feature on my Sanyo and I also doubted if the device had a microphone. I did a test one day where I left the phone in one room, and spoke with my wife through the device's bluetooth connection from another room (the door between the two rooms was closed). My wife told me that she heard me clearly. Not really scientific, but it did support that the unit does have a microphone.

This and the fact that I couldn't locate anything on the device that looks like a mic made me wondering whether it has one or not. Since I don't have any bluetooth cellphone I haven't tested the hands-free calling feature. Have you tried it? What do you mean non-directional and directional mic? Let's continue the discussion in Sanyo's thread.

Yes, the device comes with a microphone but it's a bluetooth mic only.
In order for the mic to operate you have to enable the bluetooth feature first, but
it seems to work with paired phone only now.
I wonder if we can convert it to a directional mic like Magellan Maestro 4250's.
Maestro 4250 has bluetooth feature too.

I think all we need is a bluetooth profile so when we talk it direct it to the unit
instead to the paired phone.

Some info I have found:

The selected device:

480x272
Display: 480 x 272 x 16
OS: Windows CE v5.00

Doesn't match your device.
Choose another device ?

Answer No to stop this

I have not tried the following yet so don't know if it fixes volume or not:

10. The YouTube video shows launching Zuma.. What device was selected when the GAPI device mismatch error popped up?

Has anyone figured out how to get the volume buttons (on top) functional again?

Answer: If you go into Settings and GAPI Setup, choose the Emulation tab and click "Use GAPI emulator", it works fine

I will keep and eye out on other GAPI issues.

Restore the original GAPI driver from the GAPI menu (same place that you installed the alternate driver). That'll tell you whether it is the alternate driver or not.

don2,
The "device mismatch" error is normal when GAPI doesn't explicitly know your device. That's what the "alternate driver" in R45 is meant to fix (i.e. it just disables those errors). Upgrade to R45 to try it.

The "alternate driver" does not "just" disables the device mismatch errors. This is what my first release was doing but later I noticed that no matter what device you have selected, when GAPI initializes will iterate through all supported devices to find which one matches with yours and use the one matched and not the selected one.

So, the second release (the one that I included in MioPocket) disables the "device mismatch" errors and forces GAPI to use the selected device? That's good to know. Features:

1. OSD Volume Indicator when volume key is pressed ([-]/[+])
2. OSD Volume Indicator offers two positions: horizontal or vertical (not rotate)
3. Refer to VolumeButton_Readme.txt for details.

Download here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OCNSNZVF

Osprey,

Please integrate the following in your next release.

MioPocket.ini
=============

;Whether the VolumeButton runs automatically on bootup for Sanyo NVM-4370.
UseVolumeButton=0

;Choose a horizontal or vertical positon for the volume indicator to be displayed on Sanyo NVM-4370. Horizontal = 1 and Vertical = 0.
VolumeButtonPosition=1

Variables.mscr
==============
Sub Variables_Apps

UseVolumeButton = IniRead(MioPocketINI, "Apps", "UseVolumeButton")
VolumeButtonPosition = IniRead(MioPocketINI, "Apps", "VolumeButtonPosition")

init.mscr
=========

#Run the VolumeButton for Sanyo NVM-4370 (see HotKey.ini)
If(UseVolumeButton)
Run(ProgramsFolder\"VolumeButton\VolumeButton.exe")
EndIf

Files location:
===============
Copy VolumeButton folder to \MioAutoRun\Programs
Copy/move script files from \VolumeButton\MioAutoRun\Scripts to MioAutoRun\Scripts

Download this hacked TaskMgr by TroNik and replace with existing ones (TaskMgr.exe and TaskMgr2.exe).

KhaKev,
I believe that my assignments of the hotkeys is better but of course this is subjective...
A short press of the left key runs VolumeCtrl where you can change the volume visually using the touch screen.
A short press of the right key rotates the screen.
A long press of the left key displays the keyboard.
A long press of the right key toggles the appearance of the taskbar.

Alternatively, if you prefer to only control the volume, you can rename HotKey_Volume.ini to HotKey.ini. Volume is adjusted with a step of 20%. It even has on screen display with the help of VolumeCtrl.
Run MioAutoRun\Scripts\FixPaths.mscr once before running it, so that the paths in the ini files can be fixed.

KhaKev,
I'm a little confused because it seems like you and TroNik are both working on separate solutions to the same problem. If I'm right about that, it appears to me as though TroNik's solution is a bit better, since it sounds like he utilizes VolumeCtrl and the existing entry in MioPocket.ini for saving the last-used volume. That seems to me to be the more elegant, straight-forward and less-cluttery solution. Correct me if I misunderstand.

Yes, the HotKey is hacked for KeyCode 195 and 196 for the Sanyo 4370 specific. Not sure about registry value but I think we can check by ShellDisk with a unique executable file under \ShellDisk\Shell such as PnaShell.exe or VolOSD.exe.

TroNik's solution is better. It offers both and utilizes the existing VolumeCtrl. I like it. Great job TroNik!

In addition, we can create a script to check

If(ProcExists("HotKey1.2.MOD_WIN.exe.exe"))

then we allow the Sanyo user to choose whether they want to run HotKey with HotKey.ini or HotKey_Volume.ini. Some renaming mechanism is required here. Of course, HotKey1.2.MOD_WIN.exe.exe needs to be bounced. This option should be tied to Device Settings under Settings menu.

Personally, I think having the volume keys to contol the volume while driving is more safety than touching on VolumeCtrl UI.

TroNik, we should communicate more on future projects so that we don't waste time and efforts

My SDW-821 card came in today. I perform the following as per instructions on this forum "To enable one, find the appropriate registry file in the MioAutoRun\Registry\Exclude folder and move it to MioAutoRun\Registry\Custom"

I also renamed the file in the exclude folder to WiFi-SpectecSDW-821(11g).ret as a sorta of backup.

I then used the slide switch on the bottom to reboot the SANYO. During the reboot I saw a POP window for the wireless but it went by very quickly.

After the GPS was thru rebooting and Mio Pocket was running I notice the task bar was partially displayed. Clicking on taskbar showed the wifi running. But to the right was a icon showing no connection.

Meanwhile the Wifi card was flashing which tells me there is some connection to the wifi card.

But while the wifi card is in the GPS I can not open task manager . It starts opeining but never finishes. I also can not open "Network and Dial Up connections".

It acts like the wifi is hogging resources but can't be sure since I can not get to task manager.

I tried opening Internet explorer and Opera but could not get to any sites.

Meanwhile the wifi card keeps flashing away.

I did several hard reboots but now I have lost the taskbar display of wifi card running or what ever it was telling me and do not see any icon of wireless connection.

So made a little progress but not a lot.

The HotKey program ( www.ultimatelaunch.de ) can be used for any device that has keys. It is not only for Sanyo. Mio C310x is another such device. The users just need to configure HotKey.ini according to their keys/needs. Osprey,
Correct. BTGui.exe won't run by itself. When you run PNAShell.exe, it calls BTGui.exe, Contacts.exe and VolOSD.exe.
When I killed PNAShell.exe, bluetooth still operates but you can only accept incoming calls, because without PNAShell.exe there is no way we can make outgoing calls. PNAShell.exe controlls almost everything.
Also, VolOSD.exe would not work without PNAShell.exe that was why we implemented the HotKey solutions.

So you can kill PNAShell.exe and VolOSD.exe. Don't kill Contacts.exe we need it to see the incoming number and the pickup and cancel buttons. Without Contacts.exe there's just white text and hardly see, even if Contacts.exe runs again.

-------------------

AutoRun_USB.INF gets deleted as long as you soft reset the unit. You need to soft reset for it to triggers AutoRun_USB.INF.

OK, with the new AutoRun_USB.inf MP started to run until "Extending the system path" then the unit went to stanby mode itself. I pressed the power button, it continued until the warning screen (warn.exe) popped.
I pressed OK then it went to standy mode again. I pressed the power button but this time it stucked at the Sanyo splash screen. I couldn't even turn off the unit by holding down the power button. I think it hung.

So I had to hard reset, connected the unit to a PC and once again, AutoRun_USB.INF got deleted.

TroNik, It seems like PNAShell.exe deleted AutoRun_USB.inf not CeLauncher.exe so it wouldn't trigger AutoRun_USB.inf again on second reset.

I found this from PNAShell.exe

\.M.y.F.l.a.s.h.D.i.s.k.\.A.U.T.O.R.U.N._.U.S.B...I.N.F.......E.X.E.....D.e.l.e.t.e.I.n.s.t.a.l.l.E.X.E...t.x.t

Can you check this part again? Maybe, you can hack it so it does not delete AutoRun_USB.inf.

-----------

Edit 1: Good news! I tried it again and this time I waited longer on the first standy mode or maybe we call it display off. MP installed sucessfully in the background and started up fine after I pressed the power button.
Checked AutoRun_USB.inf and it gets deleted again. So copied AutoRun_USB.inf over again and repeated the install. The key is patience on the first auto reset. Give it 1-2 minutes.

Now, I am going to make MP to copy AutoRun_USB.inf over MyFlashDisk on first successful startup. Also, test SD autorun with co-exist of AutoRun_USB.inf to find out which one starts up first. I'll have to change a skin in order to distinguish.

Osprey, you can do the same for R46. Again, this is SDFree install.

Edit 2: Done testting! \MyFlashDisk\AutoRun_USB.inf is priority #1. While MP SDFree is running and you attempt to insert a SD card with AutoRun.inf, it won't kick. Which is a very good thing. Sanyo thought of it to prevent collision.
I tested it with both soft and hard reset. So if you want to run MP SD autorun again, you have to move/delete \MyFlashDisk\AutoRun_USB.inf and perform a hard set. A soft reset won't help.

Osprey,
For documentation I think it's best to place the new INF in SDFree folder and instruct the user to copy Sanyo_AutoRun_USB.INF to the root of internal flash storage (MyFlashDisk).
You can script a rename and copy of Sanyo_AutoRun_USB.INF where the HotKey is.

Cheers and have a good weekend!

I've installed MP R45 running off an SD card and had pretty good luck with getting most of the MP apps running. However, when trying to install Igo8 I'm also getting the same "not enough space" error even though I have about 1.3 gigs on the flash drive. I also get the same error trying to install Tomtom. Why is MP not finding the free space?

Using windows explorer in Miopocket you'll see a disk named "my documents".
Try installing on the "My Documents" disk. (not the folder) If you check the properties of that disk you'll see that most of your free space resides there.

The warn.exe work perfectly, it skips the annoying request to click the OK button.

If you turn on the GPS with the new warn.exe you see a sec or two of that screen and then it goes away and the nav screen comes up.

Thanks. Changing the mscr "sleep(1000)" to "sleep(2000)" worked.

I also like TroNik's volume control options. However, I found that the volume doesn't change when using the volume button while running iGo8. The volume image appears, but the volume within iGo8 doesn't adjust. Your volume controls, however, do adjust the volume while running iGo8. I'm thinking of downloading your version to try it out. My only concern is how to do this without causing a conflict with Tronik's (which is already set to start automatically when loading MP). I guess I can just close hotkey. What do you think?

As for volume and iGO issue, same here, it has to do with both HotKey and VolumeCtrl. iGO is detecting these keys. Same symptom was found in Task Manager. Need to know assembly language to remove it from iGO.exe, maybe TroNik can guide us.

If you want to use my volume version, simply disable TroNiK's by setting in MioAutoRun.ini with UseHotKey=0

and implement mine as instructed. I named it VolumeButton.exe so it's safe.

Edit: Forgot to mention new init file is called Initialize.mscr in R46

Volume control doesn't need to be loaded for IGO8, you need to modify one of the files in data.zip
here is what you need to do:
First in sys.txt identify your system, if there is nothing there you are using default configuration.
Extract the file keybind.txt from data.zip under config
Add the following two lines to the paragraph:
196="VOLUMEUP"
195="VOLUMEDOWN"

under igo8 directory create a new one called config and place keybind.txt, it will override the internal keybind.txt.

I checked it and I suspect that the reason we can't change the backlight is because there is no device information under devices in data.zip, thus IGO doesn't know the capabilities of this device.

HI Guys

I do not have too much time to play with it, if someone wants to perform the testing it will be great.
As I mentioned above there is no device configuration for the Sanyo in data.zip.
under the igo directory we already created the config directory, under that create a devices directory and create a file called default.ini

place the following info there.

"
info_names="default"

[gps]
port = 1
baud = 38400

[power]
backlight_manage_keys = 1
backlight_min = 1
backlight_max = 100
backlight_reverse = 0
backlight_key_timeout_BA = "BatteryTimeout"
backlight_key_timeout_AC = "ACTimeout"
backlight_key_ontap_BA = "BacklightOnTap"
backlight_key_ontap_AC = "ACBacklightOnTap"
backlight_key_on_BA = "OnOff"
backlight_key_on_AC = "ExtOnOff"
backlight_methods = 5
backlight_events=1,2

[tmc]
"
Now this will enable the sliders to work but will not affect the backlight.
I think the problem is in the parameters:
backlight_methods = 5
backlight_events=1,2

Not sure if the second one is needed at all, if someone wants to try modifying the first number from 1 to 30 and test it will be great.

[keybind]
C3="VOLUMEDOWN"
C4="VOLUMEUP"

backlight_key_timeout_BA = "BatteryTimeout"
backlight_key_timeout_AC = "ACTimeout"
backlight_methods = 1
backlight_events = 1

You can save it in config\devices either as default.ini or SanyoNVM4370.ini. If you save it as SanyoNVM4370.ini then you need to add the following in sys.txt:
[device]
type="SanyoNVM4370"

I am going back to MioPocket 2 release 46, which installs perfectly, until I get some suggestions from this forum.

Thanks in advance!

Osprey, I appreciate your efforts and am excitedly looking forward using MP 3.0.

After the failure, with regedit, check in HKLM\System\StorageManager\Profiles\MMC and SDMemory and look for SDMMC and/or SDMMC2. They should be folder name. How many entries do to see?

KhaKev, Optimo,

I finally got MP 3.0 to install correctly. I really don't know how I did it, but I will list the steps below. Optimo, hopefully it will help you.

(Please note: I decided to use a 4 gig SD card first since MP 3.0 was not installing correctly on my 8 gig SD card).

1) Backed up my 4 gig SD card
2) Formatted the SD card
3) downloaded MP 3.0 again (I deleted all previous downloads)
4) downloaded TroNik's patch
5) unzipped MP 3.0
6) copied the patch files to MP 3.0
7) followed the directions on Osprey's read me file for SD installation
8) reset GPS device
9) inserted SD card

MP went through the installation process successfully. At this point, I decided to try my 8 gig card again (I followed the same steps above). And MP 3.0 installed correctly again! Needless to say I'm psyched!

I used to have SpectecSDW-820(b) but I found it's kind of slow for the opera (watching youtube is OK). Couple months ago I bought SpectecSDW-821 from ebay because of the cash back promotion of live.com. I notice it is faster but consumes much more battery. I bought a Mio c230(refurbed) from Amazon less than USD$55 shipped last week and the weird thing is that the wifi is now not working in Mio C230 but working great in Sanyo when I installed MP 3.0

Sorry for getting back to you so late. I used R47_Patch_TroNik.rar .

Although I got R47 to work, I have tried R48 and R49 but have a glitch on each one (Active Sync doesn't work). Osprey explained that it have to do with the changes to the code suggested by TroNik.

Osprey's quote: "I changed a bit of code in R48 for Sanyo devices, per TroNik's request. I think had something to do with explorer.exe. Perhaps that is why ActiveSync stopped working for you. I can't find where the change was, so maybe TroNik remembers or has another idea about the problem."

TroNik, can you offer any ideas or advice? Thanks.

create7,

I looked in R48 and see this in Unlock.mscr - try to remove this block or have it launch celauncher.exe again.

#Sanyo devices: Disable CeLauncher.exe at Launch50
#It could be replaced with explorer.exe, but if the documents' path is set to the storage card
#then since the storage card takes a while to initialize, explorer will automatically create SDMMC
#and when the storage card will initialize it will be SDMMC2.
If(ToLower(RegRead("HKLM", "init", "Launch50")) eq "celauncher.exe")
	RegWriteString("HKLM", "init", "Launch50", "")
EndIf

If you don't want to re-install MP you can modify this in \MyFlashDisk\MioAutoRun\ini.txt
Not sure it will help but it's worth a try.

KhaKev,

Thanks for you suggestions. I tried them but I had no success. I first tried deleting the Sanyo script altogether, but had no luck. I then noticed that MP Release47 has the following settings:

#Sanyo devices: Disable CeLauncher.exe at Launch50
#Could be replaced with explorer.exe but device will hang if the USB is connected during startup
If(ToLower(RegRead("HKLM", "init", "Launch50")) eq "celauncher.exe")
RegWriteString("HKLM", "init", "Launch50", "")
EndIf

I tried copying the settings from R47 over R49, but had no success. I don't think that Active Sync isn't working because of CeLauncher.exe not running.

Does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks.

I don't believe there are maps for UK for this unit. Maps files ends with .KWI if you can find maps in your geo with this extension you can try. Sanyo map update for NA can be found here http://www.navigation.com/sanyo-mapupdate. As you can see http://www.navigation.com is map creator. Map directory on Sanyo device is \MobileNavigator\MAP

EDIT: Looks like Japanese vehicals are equiped with this type of maps. Translate this site for details. I'm sure you can find this type of maps DVD in your area and try out.

You could unlock your unit with MioPocket and purchase another GPS software like iGo 8, which is a lot better than the navigation software that comes with the Sanyo unit.

Hi, I've read through every one of these posts. Good work everyone. I've just purchased a 4370 and have the following question. This thread is all about unlocking. Is there information on how to load IGO8 WITHOUT unlocking? I really don't need or want MioPocket. I only want to upgrade the navigation software. I have a Nokia N500 that I've done this on. But I don't see info on how to do this to the Sanyo. I would assume I could just swap out the MobileNavigation folder with one that has the IGO8 in it. Is this a good assumption? Or, can anyone point me to an thread that has this info in it? Thanks everyone.

Ok, so here's another question. I've loaded Igo8 into the MyFlashDisk. I've been able to switch back and forth between the Sanyo and the Igo nav by just renaming the directories via USB. I do this because I don't want to unlock this device. But I want to try another nav program, and don't have the room so I just wanted to remove the Igo8. But when I loaded it into MyFlashDisk, it became a read only folder. I've tried to set the properties to undo readonly. It looks like it's doing it, but then it still retains the read only attribute. Does anyone know how to remove the read only on this folder?

Yes, there is one that can be run from WinCE. It's DiskRW.

1.Start DisKRW
2.Select from combo-box (close to 'Store:') -> SMFlash
3.Press '...' button and select 'SDMMC' (where to save your SMFlash.img)
4.Press 'Read' button

Wait until it finishes and repeat the above and in step 2 select DSK1. Make sure you have enough space on your SD and not overwrite the first image.

Caution: Don't run anything else if you don't know what you're doing.

I would like to have both from DiskRW and pdocread so that I can compare the partitions and etc. Thanks in advance.

http://rapidshare.com/files/295250784/Sanyo-DiskRW_files.7z

Just as a history my Sanyo unit has the failed bitmap error and both MyFlashDisk and ShellDisk seem to be corrupted = any attempt to write in any of these areas will freeze the unit, this is why I modified the MP installation script to run without accessing anything on the internal flash memory hence some limitations like ActiveSync (I think)

Hope it helps get you started.

1.I am not experienced with ActiveSync. I understand the concept but not sure where I invoke it on the PC or on the Miopocket or both. I see a directory in MioPocket under settings called USB mode. In side this folder I have ActiveSync(Active) and Mass Storage is I guess not active. Those are the only two choices. I can not see anywhere else in MioPocket to start active sync.

2. I am running Miopocket off a external card.

3. I do not see any app in WIndows XP on my laptop for starting ActiveSync.

4. In regards to pdocread . I downloaded all the files to c:\itsutils folder and unzipped them.

5. I then found that I can not run C:\itsutils>pdocread.exe -l
6. When I tried running it thru Start -> run -> cmd.exe I got missing rapi.dll
7. I then observed that I needed a command called "make" - (to build: type 'make' in the itsutils directory, it will then build 'src', 'dll', apihook, rilhook, some stuff from 'leds' )
8. I downloaded "Make" and tried running it from command line and got missing cygwinl.dll.
9. It appears we need someone that has the following on their computer: (to compile it you need visual studio 2005, with the windows mobile 6 SDK. and also header files from the wince3, wince4 and wince5 platformbuilders. and cygwin, with probably at least these packages installed: bash, perl, make. )
10. Not having done development work in a long time, I hope someone else out there with more experience with Visual Studio can run the needed command.

Sorry ,

Glad to hear the UBS connection is working again on the same PC. As for the above errors I suspect that a firewall or anti virus software might be blocking it. If possible please temporary disable both and try again.

To copy text from Command Prompt window, right click on Command Prompt title bar -> Properties -> tick QuickEdit Mode then click OK. Select (Modify shortcut that started this window) and click OK again. Now you can freely high light text and copy.

DiskRW will not harm the device as we only need to read the ROM. Don't attempt to run anything else beside Read as instructed. Make sure you have sufficient space on your SD card when you specify the destination where the image to be written to.

I installed a clean version of Mio 3.0 Release 49 . It appears to have solved the functionality issues.

It appears I can recover from bad apps a lot better by using the external SD card then the first time when I loaded Mio internally on the Sanyo and ended up bricking the first device.

I see my SD card reader has a small issue. It catches the write protection tab built into the SD mem card and renders it read only. I have to be real careful sliding it into the reader so it stays in write mode.

Anyway next I will give your video a look and attempt a DiskRW. It is a good time to do it seeing as the mem card only has Mio on it presently.

KhaKev,

I just missed your last post. I am sure I will get a chance to try restore in the future :( I will have to see where I do that so I know for next time.

I tried PDOCread after closing firewall, and turning off Avast, and internet connection and it still gave me the same errors as I previously posted. I see I had Spybot still running so will turn that off also on next attempt.

don2 and desimtor,

Thanks for the efforts. I have found that the SMFlash images are identical. The dumprom tool I use is still not able to dump everything for verifications. The following files are extracted

BIBDrv.dll, binfs.dll, coredll.dll, default.fdf, filesys.exe, fsdmgr.dll, mspart.dll, nk.exe

After the above files were extracted, the following errors repeatedly displayed for hours and then dumprom gave up.

ERROR: could not find pointer for ofs ffffffff

I have a firmware from RoyalTek (the same vendor created the ROM and apps for the Sanyo). Surprising I see the same file structures on ShellDisk and I'm hoping we can extract the boot loader from SMFlash image. We need the right tools to extract the OS. From the firmware I have the OS files consist of

block0.nb0
chain.bin
chain.lst
EBOOT.bin
EBOOT_SD.nb0
IROM_SD_EBOOT.nb0
NK.bin
XIPKER.bin

To confirm if the OS is accepting the same checksum can someone download this utility and see if you can launch \Windows\Explorer.exe via the autorun.inf from SD? If you're running MP from SD, please rename the original autorun.inf to something else before copy the new files over to the root of SD. Thanks.

I have a NVM-4370 "Contacts" and "BtGui" brick, if I can offer any assistance let me know.

Here is the response from Sanyo...
The warranty coverage period is 365 days for parts and labor. If your unit is beyond or past the 365 day parts and labor coverage or you do not have the receipt and you require service, please note that although repairable, the cost of parts and labor may not be as feasible or economical. Please consider that the normal out of warranty labor cost will be around $ 175.00, this does not include the cost of parts and return freight upon completion of repairs.

Anyone get the feeling that they don't want to deal with the problem?

That's awesome. Thanks.

I hope the boot loader (BL) function will work the same too. I have the impressions that it will. Looks like there is no menu for the BL. It reads silently in the bg after the Power/Menu button is pressed from a hard reset (bottom power switch slide from Off to On) but the files (listed above) need to be reside on the SD card.

prorocker,
Just be patient. It's not worth it to spend that much of money for repair. With that money you can buy two new devices.

I need to look at the firmware I have to learn more about it and if we cannot exact the BL from SMFlash image or maybe the BL was not copied by DiskRW. I hope someone else out there can help with pdocread utility. I just want to see the difference.

don2,

When data on ShellDisk is corrupted the device becomes unresponsive that is why SD functionality does not work when it boots up this way. However, if we are able to get into the BL mode SD functionality should work as NK (the OS) has not loaded.

The goal is to format ShellDisk to clear the unresponsive problem. Better yet, we can modify the registry (I have tool for this) to launch \Windows\Explorer.exe on start up and our unresponsive problem will never return.

Update: I see EraseAll function in the boot loader (firmware I have) before upgrade takes place however I do not know yet that it will erase ALL the internal blocks as once (including the BL). I don't have a device to test this yet. If we can extract the BL or at least the OS from the images I am pretty sure we can unbrick the devce at no time.

On a slightly different note:
1. I have a San Disk 256Meg wifi card.
2. I installed Mio on it.
3. It boots into mio fine on the Sanyo.
4. I got this driver from "http://www.sandisk.ca/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1112" site.
5. But when I try clicking on this driver which is named 256mb-setup03.exe I get the following message in Mio:
"256mb-setup03.exe is not a valid Windows CE application."
6. I do not understand how it could not be a Windows CE app.

In reviewing MioPocket install notes I see that .exe apps need to be installed thru active sync. - I will give that a try.

I don't think the the FFs are due to MioPocket installation. Is using coredll API and coredll can't be replaced by miopocket. Some devices have some sort of "black hole" ... If you read outside of the 'expected area' FF is returned (probably is related to the FTL implementation). Don't worry about that ... is OK.
"If my assumption is right you can translate this page for details."
I was unable to translate that ...
" Looks like the boot loader consists of

block0.nb0
EBOOT.bin
EBOOT_SD.nb0
IROM_SD_EBOOT.nb0"
I don't have experience on BootLoader (I was always afraid to upgrade the BL).
"OS:

NK.bin
XIPKER.bin
chain.bin
chain.lst"
The OS is made of: COREKERNEL (aka XIPKERNEL), NK (aka XIP) and CHAIN.
I found an error in my software. Names are longer than expected (more than 32 char.) - fixed - up to 64 char.
There is a strange overlap (related to system.cpl) .. I can't tell you why ... for now.
If you need some specific information - from ROM or some files recovered from MODULES - let me know. If you plan to build some unlocks recovered files will be useful to check the dependencies.

g_alin,

Thanks again for your efforts. For translations, use Google translate or similar and translate from Korean to English. Anyway, we are not intended to upgrade the BL. Our goal is to find a way to extract the OS from SMFlash, modify the regkey to start up with \Windows\Explorer.exe or something else instead of the default \Windows\CELauncher.exe because it calls PnaShell.exe resides on \ShellDisk (aka DSK1) but files on DSK1 become corrupted easily and there is no way to fix this issue as of now.

Do you see any sign of BL from the 102MB SMFlash image? So you think the FF's is increasing the size of the image?

If we successfully extracted the OS from the image we can ask someone with a bricked device to try with the BL files I have with the cooked OS from Sanyo device.

Let me know if you need the OS files (from other brand) I have for you to compare. I will take a look at your resources. Thanks. -KK.

Thanks for the efforts. Have you tried again after the first run? Tony W from this forum also encountered a similar issue and it worked for him on a second try. Some reported that they have to run the same command for several times. Hope it'll work for you too. You can also check the output file, press F5 (refresh) to see the file size during write progress.

I also noticed that there're two handles on the same partition. How strange.

handle e30ad36e 42.00M (0x2a00000)
handle c3fae772 42.00M (0x2a00000)

Please try again with these commands instead.

pdocread -w -d SMFlash -p Part00 0 0x2a00000 SMFlash.raw
or
pdocread -w -d SMFlash -b 0x200 -p Part00 0 0x2a00000 SMFlash.raw

As I recall SMFlash is 512 bytes per sector and total capacity is 100MB. Now I know why DiskRW also read 100MB. DSK1 is 96MB and it has 2.00 KB sector size. More info on here.

Please zip the files before upload (1. because they can get corrupted - very dangerous to upload a corrupted firmware; 2. you (and us) save time - because are very compressible).
You dump is "00 ......... 00" ... so is unusable.

I know everyone else is working on fixing the bricking issue but in addition I wanted to address where I am at with Wifi that I had posted about earlier.

I tried installing the Sandisk 256MB+WiFi drivers using Active Sync.
I wanted to install the drivers on the Mem/WiFi card but found I did not have a lot of specific file locations in the installer to choose from.

I selected SDMMC as I recall and towards the end of the install process I received some pop ups on the GPS screen that either wanted me to double click on a .cab file that the intaller could not find or pop ups that kept telling me that I was missing .dll's, .bmp's., and .cab.

I was going to try installing this in MY Flash Disk in hopes that it would then find the needed extensions but did not want to take the chance of bricking the gps.

I believe someone has gotten wifi working with a wifi only SDIO card which I also have, but I have avoided wanting to attempt installing the SDfree version of MioPocket on my GPS since the last time I did it I bricked the GPS.

Try to use MsCEInf (http://freewareppc.com/utilities/msceinf.shtml) to exact the cab file.

1. From a PC, launch MSCEinf.exe and open the cab file you want to extract
2. Click one of the Exact buttons (yellow zip like icon in tool bar), later copy the files to \MioAutoRun\System\WLAN
3. Click the XML button and look under the Registry Keys tab if there's any. If you see a reg key content, simply copy everything except the first line (REGEDIT4) and paste to a NotePad and save it as (ie WiFi.reg) and copy this file over to \MioAutoRun\Registry\Custom and perform a reset/hardreset within MP.

Where is the cab again? I want to see the contents.

i need Active sync to be able to install NDrive navigation on it which is my preferred navigation software moreso when i have already purchased it and wouldn't want to spend extra cash to buy a new Navigation software
Also when i downloaded MP R55 there was no Sanyo_Autorun.inf file in there all i had was the Autorun.inf.
i dont know if that is the reason but when i run MP it looks nothing like the video i saw from Khakev, which shows the Sanyo Home screen with the option to select MP after you hit the Navigate icon.
Can anyone help me out here especially with the ActiveSync.
thanks

Don2,
I did use SD-free to run the miopocket 3.0. I have used this method for at least 10 months. The only problem is that sometimes the machine just freezes over there after I insert the SD card so I have to hard reset the unit. Otherwise, everything seems working perfectly. To make Wifi work, you would need to put core_dl.dll, sdmemory.dll and sdbus.dll into the winodws folder.(you can find those files inside R48 patches). Good luck~

redoxy,

Did you download the version of Active Sync that desimtor described to me in an earlier post?

Can you view directories via USB? - Maybe your cable is bad - just a suggestion as you probably already tried a different cable.

The only other thing I would suggest is to try a different computer with Active Sync. I had a problem with one computer not recognizing the USB for the GPS and never did resolve the issue.

zdaokimo,

Thanks for the wifi info.

I hope to get back into trying to get wifi to work on the Sanyo after Christmas.

EDIT 3: Try this PegasSDN.dll from http://www.socketforum.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2894 if you cannot find the orig cab.

Edit 2 gave me two .dll's one is SDMemory.dll and SDBusDriver.dll not sure if this is the same as "SDBusDriver12.CAB"

Edit 3 "socketforum.com expired on 11/29/2009 and is pending renewal or deletion." _ Note: This site is back up and I did get PegasSDN.dll from them.

zdaokimo,

What indications will I have if I get wifi installed? How do I set it up to work with a browser in order to tell I got it configured?

I have clicked on Opera and Skyfire but it just says no connection. How do I make the connection?

I recall the time I got wifi partially working with SD free I saw a light blink on the wifi card but that was as far as I got with SD free before I bricked the first GPS.

I am tempted to try SD free again but am not sure why your device has proved more reliable.

I recall when I bricked the SD free GPS I had just plugged it into a radio to use for speaker amplification and the mini plug locked up the device and basically that is what led to its being bricked.

I just had this happen again last weekend but I did not have SD free loaded on the GPS and I was successful rebooting the GPS.

Desimtor,

What is happening? Are you making any progress?

KhaKev/Alin, can you guide me on how to modify the rom so it points to Explorer.exe rather than CElauncher.exe and then how to flash the modified rom into the GPS memory.

Thank you.

P.S.
Today my other working unit got the contacts.exe error so now I have two SANYO bricks :(

Desimtor, That is really sad !!! I still find it odd that the audio out jack locked up both Sanyos that I have owned. The first had Mio installed internally and basically within minutes of it locking up on connecting/disconnecting from audio amp it bricked.

This second one has Mio installed on the SD card and slide switch reset has saved it.

I am very jealous of zdaokimo keeping his running with Wifi and with Mio loaded internally.

Good Luck,

I don't have this device, so I can help you too much on the testing area. You have to find out if the BLUE SCREEN upgrade firmware format is NB0 of B000FF. Let me know if you need the firmware with that registry change (CELancher.exe -> explorer.exe).

1) Create one more empty file called RTKFlash.ini and test with the existing files you tried previously.

Here is the Orbiter firmware layout. Stay away with EraseAll.ini for now.

http://200.183.248.195/orbiter/GPS/AP%20e%20OS/430%20DTV/OS/

If you look at the AP (Shell) layout it's very similar to the Sanyo's. If we're able to flash the OS and fix the corruption issue. We can create a Cab Install in no time. Just need the checksum on each file in the Shell and list them in CRCLIST. See sample here

http://200.183.248.195/orbiter/GPS/AP%20e%20OS/430%20DTV/430-DTV-APUPDATE/CabInstall_Brazil/

EDIT: Files on root of SD should look like this

The Loader:

block0.nb0
EBOOT.bin
EBOOT_SD.nb0
IROM_SD_EBOOT.nb0

The Update Flags:

RTKRun.ini
RTKFlash.ini

The System OS:

NK.bin
XIPKER.bin
chain.bin
chain.lst

2) My next commendation would be converting the NK.bin to XIP.nb0. Use this procedure to convert
http://nicolasbesson.blogspot.com/2007/11/creation-of-nknb0-file-nb0.html

Then place these files on 2GB SD card (Make sure it's 2 GB (none SDHC) to avoid issue). Let's try without EraseAll.ini first.
XIP.nb0, RTKRun.ini, RTKFlash.ini

Then try with EraseAll.ini at last resource. Also try with the keys pressed.

Here is another RoyalTek device. You need translation for this. It's Thai.
http://www.navthai.net/index.php?topic=1392.15

Keep searching for RoyalTek related devices and we might find a hit for the Sanyo's. Good lucks!

Hey guys,

I just found another RoyalTek related device (NavRoad) from this Polish site. Inside 560BF_CoreV37_AP_V52.zip I see a similar file structure except that this one has the AP (aka the Shell stuffs) included.

You might wanna try it with the file you converted from g_alin's NK.bin again. Put only these files on empty 2GB SD card

xip.nb0
RTKRun.ini
EraseAll.ini-

Then follow the instructions from the link above with power and reset buttons pressed. Looks like the tricky part is press and release the reset key in time. You might wanna also try with the main power switch.

Last but not least, I also found RoyalTek FTP site ftp://ftp.royaltek.com/ and it has all its clients listed except Sanyo. Maybe it's under another name. The bad news is we don't have access to the folders except the top ones.

@g_alin

Could you please look at the xip.nb0 from 560BF_CoreV37_AP_V52.zip? The size is ~61MB and I wonder if we need to do another conversion from the original SMFlash image.

KhaKev,
The xip.nb0 is a NB0 ROM image that has all ROM parts inside (XIPKERNEL + NK + CHAIN) so, probably this GPS is loading the xip.nb0 file to RAM and starts the wince. The only part that we don't know is where (in this nb0) we have to place the files.
But before we move on ... I have only one concern ... that those devices are not compatible. Are only from the same manufacturer ... but are not compatible.
let me tell you why;
1. 560BF_Layout (from xik.nb0 file):
0 - XIPKERNEL
700000 - NK
3BFD000 - CHAIN
2. SANYO_Layout (from smflash.img file):
200000 - COREKERNEL
380000 - NK
1580000 - CHAIN
As you can see also the ROM parts names are different ... I don't think that those two GPSs are using the same platform. I don't say that they can not use the same upgrade format (AKA:NB0) !!! but probably the addresses where you have to place COREKERNEL, NK and CHAIN may be different.
This moment looks like a dead end ... but (assuming the the format is the same for those two GPSs ...) we heed to find somewhere a SMFlash from 560BF_CoreV37_AP_V52 device. This way we may compare SMFlash with xip.NB0 (used for upgrade) and I can try to convert SMFlash.img to xip.nb0 (for upgrade).
Second option is to force SANYO to give you the upgrade format (the files and procedure to upgrade) ... and after that we'll figure out the format and how to change the ROM to add the explorer.exe to registry. You can use BBB (as threatening ...) ... I don't know ... Let me know if you need other information from hose files (SANYO SMFlash.img or 560BF xip.nb0).

I assume your 2nd question is for the Sanyo. Recently, Sanyo released a Map upgrade for NVM-4370 but it's good for working devices only and it's not free. Bricked devices like desimtor's and others are top lucks.

As you can see from previous threads we've been trying to find a way to flash the firmware so it only starts up the explorer.exe but we don't know the firmware format yet although several RoyalTek related devices have been attempted. Just so keep you up to speed. Sanyo NVM-4370 has a RoyalTek board and the OS and AP structure is very similar to the ones I found however the firmware upgrade is the one we all still dream of.

I think our last resource now is to contact Sanyo and beg them to release the firmware (any version should do) so that we can fix the problem ourself. Let's hope they will.

KhaKev,

Thanks for the update. I was actually thinking about trying the Mio Digiwalker C310 maps on my Sanyo since I own both units by swapping the Nav files. But then I got thinking it probably would not work since the screens are different sizes.

Anyway this is the message I sent to Sanyo:

"I am seriously thinking about upgrading to a SANYO NVM-4370 Map Update DVD North America 2009-2010, but I am very concerned about the Contact.exe issue that plagues this model. Have you come up with a fix for it yet or do you have any plans to release the firmware or supply some means to the general public so we can fix the broken units? I have already replaced my first one under warranty and really do not want to see the Contact.exe error again and am hoping you can release a fix for this to the General Public. Thanks in advance."

Don1

Here is some additional discussion I received back from Sany:

Sanyo Rep: Thank you for your inquiry.
We do not have a fix for the Contact.exe error.
There are no plans to release a firmware update for these units.

Me: Are you saying that if Sanyo received a 4370 with the
contact.exe issue that it could not be repaired by your factory?

Sanyo Rep: That is correct.

For sure using JTAG you can recover this unit ... come on ...
Another idea: To try to make a SDCard with SMFlash partition on the card (in BIN-FS format) ... maybe is going to boot from SDCard (same like PC is booting from CD/DVD at start up ...).
How to do that? You need to use a small SDCard (<=512M but >= 128M)and do a RAW2RAW copy of the SMFlash to SDCard (be careful - that image is not visible in windows xp! don't try to check whats on the SDCard using PC because is going to try to format the SDCard - to a windows xp compatible file system - FAT or FAT32).
And do a RESET (with SDCard inserted) ...
Let us know the results ...

Additionally, you need to put SDHC.reg inside the registry folder. Remember, use the sd-free unlock. I used apectec/ambeon wifi card without any problem.

It's looking like our board is bricking based on the limited number of postings :(

Update:

I finally got Igo installed on my GPS and so far I am quite happy with it. I figured IGO was a better investmant then our Nav $80 update.

I am running both Mio and Igo off of a 2 gig SD card. I have not loaded maps for all states due to 2 gig limit. Tried to use my 4 gig sd card but can not write to it because of the darn lock slide switch issue that plagues these SD cards.

I have found this GPS to be much more reliable running off of external cards - at least when it locks up it is more of an external then and internal issue. Hope it keeps working !!!

I am using the Default IGO skin. I like it because the buttons are bigger although it does not have as many user selectable settings and I do not see Blue tooth.

I have the GPS on a "always powered" 12vdc plug in my car. In the default skin there is no way to stop the IGO software from shutting down where there is in at least one other skin.(At least I have not found a method) I would rather be on a switched 12 v but if I forget to tell the GPS not to turn off on absence of car power, it locks up on me.

So instead when I get to my destination I exit out of Igo and then click on the lower left Icon in WinCE and put the GPS in stby. So far this has worked everytime for me.

I haved used it to navigate to/from on several 1 to 2 hr trips. Another nice feature is choice of alternate routes and changing frequency of recalculation for route changes. It seemed like the old NAV programs was forever trying to reroute be back to the turn I missed while IGO is happy with just finding a new route.

One thing I noticed in the System Info. screen, there is a line item called BootLoader: 1.1.1.7, does this mean that this actually has a bootloader? If yes than how can it be accessed?

I stumbled on to the following Trojan virus buried in the zip files in each MioPocket version I have downloaded over the last year or so.

Just curious if anyone else had found this virus.

Here is the URL description of it:

http://www.securelist.com/en/descriptions/Trojan-SMS.WinCE.Redoc.r

Trojan-SMS.WinCE.Redoc.r

"Programs of this type are used to send text messages from infected mobile devices to premium rate numbers that are hard code into the Trojan’s body."

I found it in the low level directory of /skin/ GSThemes

Here is part of the directory structure, I did not write down the full path names but I think there is enough here to go by:

F:GPS/Release_46/miopocket_2.0_zip/miopocket....../MioAutorun/skin/GS Themes

It was found with Kaspersky.

It looks like it would only be an issue if you were using it on a Mobile phone. So it may be a non issue.

For those of you who are having trouble getting MioPocket to run from the SD card. I found that in my Sanyo 4370, I did not have the AutoRun_USB.inf file in MyFlashDisk. I created one there and the latest MioPocket works from the SD card. Be careful though, somehow when I copied the file to the Sanyo, in got a double .inf at the end of the file name. That will only give you a blank white screen when you insert the SD card.

I am a total nub. I just started reading this thread and am totally confused but I am caught up in the passion and the efforts of the contributors to this thread. I can't quite put together the cause of a bricked 4370 but it seems to pose a problem. My guess would be a corrupted database in the system flash memory.

It would be neat to be able to software call a cold boot

I don't know how close a MIO 701 is to the 4370 but here's one story

http://www.a701.org/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=83

As far as i can tell, the ROM must make a call to bootstrap some system. If we could make it Linux we could invoke the "clean boot" function (if it exists) or we could reformat the system flash and install a image which guys have provided on this thread. Again the MIO 701 can boot Linux

You are lucky, I used to have a working Sanyo with MP and now it's bricked, I suspect it was something related to me unplugging the the headphones from the audio jack while the audio player was running, I'm not 100% on this one since I can not recreate the issue :(
I also have a unit that I can turn on and get past the bitmap error but it has limited functionality - still works as a GPS and can load a modified version of MioPocket. Since 4.0 came out I stopped using the Sanyo unit.

Desimtor, That is basically what happened to my first one. I believe I posted about it. I had the unit playing music, fiddled with the plug going to my audio amp and it locked up on me.

I kind of thought it was some electrical ground issue but who knows.

My second one is still working but I only use it with IGO GPS off a external mem card and never use it for music.

I now use a IPOD touch I bought used for music :(

My unit recently fell and the screen got cracked. It works except I can't use it because I can't access all buttons. Anyway, if anyone has a bricked unit and wants mine for parts, I'm giving it away. I only ask that you pay for the shipping (it's around $5). If interested, let me know.

By the way, you will only get the unit and charger. I can't fit the windshield part because it will cost more to ship it.

I have a disassemly question. I am trying to replace the battery in this unit and can not get the battery connector loose. Anyone have any suggestions? It just looks like a standard small circuit board plug but I can not get it to pull out and have even deformed the connector slightly. There are three similar plugs on the one side of the Circuit Board and I succesfully got the one by itself on the left side of the board off but the two on the right side of the board one being the battery plug I can not get loose.

Thanks in advance.

To answer my own Post:

I was able to get the battery connector out.
I found that the female Circuit Board side of the connector was mounted so close to the circuit board that the clip on the male side would not release no matter how hard I pulled on it.
I slid a spunger under the clip which took the pressure off the plug and then was able to slide it off just like and connector of this style.

On another Note:

THERE IS NO PLACE TO BUY A BATTERY FOR THIS GPS !!!!

It is model number UF653450S 3.7V 1200mAh if any one can point me to a generic version.

Thanks in Advnace.
