Two things really drive me nuts about using routes that I would like to see changed:
1. When I create a route I will frequently need to add via points to make the route go the way I want. These points have no other use than to make sure the route stays on the roads I want to use. They however show up as waypoints in the favorites which is too distracting. The only way I found to deal with this is to create seperate category for them so they are not easily seen. I would prefer you create a via point that was not a waypoint if that makes sense.
2. When I do create these custom routes I would like to see theroute itself show up in favorites. I frequently do this for my wife when the autocalc creates a complicated route and I would prefer her to take an easier one. However, if I do this she must navigate through the tools menu to get to the save route which is a pain. It would be good if you could just mark it as a favorite and have it show up in that menu. |

Hi,
Slightly off topic, but still relevant I think. I am looking at getting the Kenwood KNA-G520 (G510 in US) sat nav system, made by Garmin (GVN-52). It seems to be a SP2720 in a dfferent box without a screen - it connects to an external screen. Having had a Nuvi I appreciated the sirfstar chipset and despite the extra features of the SP2xxx range, this seems to be a bit of a downgrade - although you do get dead reckoning.
So my question is, assuming Garmin make such a device in the future, could an external sirfstar 3 antenna be added to these models? Or do the internal workings prevent this? Is it possible to hook up to a non Garmin external antenna?
regards

I sent the following e-mail to Garmin Tech support today, regarding a problem with the way that the SP 2720 identifies some freeway exits. Please review it, and reply if you have any comments:
I have observed that, when a freeway off ramp ends at a street whose name is different than the street name posted on the freeway's (green) exit signs, the Streetpilot 2720's voice (Jill) identifies the exit ramp by the intermediate stret's name (instead of by the freeway exit sign name). For example, just after entering Interstate 405 southbound from the Mulholland Drive on ramp (in Los Angeles), Jill says "Continue 3.1 miles, then exit on North Church Lane", while the top of the screen simultaneously indicates "Right to Church Ln to Sunset Blvd". A few seconds later, when the screen goes back to map view, the top line (highlighted in green) reads "I405 S to Church Ln"; this screen message remains until the vehicle is 0.8 miles from the exit. At 0.8 miles from the exit, Jill says "Exit on North Church Lane, then turn left", while the screen says "Right to Church Ln to Sunset Blvd". Since this freeway exit (when travelling south on I405) is sign posted as "Sunset Blvd", both Jill and the Streetpilot's screen should say "Exit at Sunset Blvd", so the driver will know which exit ramp he or she should prepare to use. Once the vehicle is on the exit ramp, the directions given by Jill are fine: "Turn left on Church Lane, then turn right". Once the left turn has been made on Church Lane, Jill correctly says "Turn right on West Sunset Blvd".
Because of this discrepancy, drivers are inclined to manipulate the Streetpilot to scroll through the list of directions (while driving on the freeway!) to figure out which exit ramp they really need to take. This obviously compromises safety. Therefore, I strongly suggest that this problem be addressed in an upcoming unit software revision. Please reply to let me know what Garmin's plans are for resolving this issue. Thank you. |

Just got my new 2720 and, with the latest firmware, I like it a lot.
Icing on the cake would be:
1) While the map is displayed, hitting the Map button does nothing. Have a Map button press cycle among 3D, 2D and 2D north up views. -OR- have the Map button toggle between showing the usual map tabs and a full-screen (i.e. no-tab display).
2) Put an analog compass view (as in the old Airglide ball compasses)in the trip computer screen, or at least one that ribbon-scrolls horizontally, as in N->NNE->NE, etc. |

| I'd like to see a battery. A little one. Just give me half an hour without having to sit on the bike while I plot a course or have to find another power plug and the usb cable so I can browse around a little. |

Im hardly looking for old CNNA v8NT update DVD for SP2720. There should be one big .rgn file with whole CNNA v8NT. What I need is first 300kb from this file. It can be copied with any HEX editor. Can anyone help me and send this block of .rgn file to my email? |
