@phurchuluh: The ROM image you have is most probably for a completely different device - this one: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Himalaya. It should never be flashed on the mio..

...with my MIO C710 & C520T

Hallo,
I found an image for the C310. Works fine on my formatted c510 except lack of bluetooth support. I used the tool DNW.exe to transmit it, but i guess it should work fine from SD/MMC as well.

Very suspect files DNW.exe is known malware.

He posted an earlier link for C510 ROM at 15.4MB; the C310 file he is referencing is a 6.6MB download.

(Started Garman Vista) now MIO TTS - C220/C310x QS Reborn, H610, and C320/C720T Jerry Skin (TY Jerry), TTS, latest MAPS with speedlimits, ATT voice alerts for stoplight cams and speedcams.

I don't even know why I bother when this is what I get back for helping out...

Dnw.exe is a known tool for transmitting to the platform Siemens S3C2400X series. This application is developede and released by Siemens. Google is your friend, you'll even find screenshots of using it.

Unrared C310-rom is 15.1 MB, included checksumfile for transfer from SD/MMC is 40 B.
I have tested this firmware on a CX10 device and confirm that it worked for me.

zwanzig - in your "copious free time", how about posting a short tutorial on (a) extracting a ROM image from a C310/C310x and (b) flashing it back?

Very well,
(a) extracting a ROM image from i.e C310
Download bkondisk http://hpcmonex.net/roms/bkondisk.zip
Transfer bkondisk to working Mio using miotransfer(hacked), or activesync.
Boot Mio into WinCE (hard power off with dip-switch, press menu and volume+ as you power it up again)
From WinCE:
Start > Run > bkondisk.exe \My Flash Disk
or
Start > Run > bkondisk.exe \Storage Card
and wait for some minutes (no progress meter, be patient)
This will excract ALL partitions
you will find all extracted images at the point you specified. Look for the one with a size from 10MB - 32MB in this case. It might or might not need to be edited with a binary editor to exclude crap data in end and beginning.

If you do know which of the partitions to extract that can be specified with the bkondisk-command. See manpage:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=bkondisk

(b) flashing
Boot in to boot menu (hard power off with dip-switch, press power and volume- as you power it up again)
navigate to flash from either USB with DNW or SD/MMC with checksum file. Warning: starting up flashing process starts with erasing flash memory.

Checksum file consists of size and checksum
- The firs value is the size in byte
- The second value you can generate it with winhex:
- open the OS image file
- goto Tools->Compute Hash->"Checksum (32 bit)"
Flashing from SD/MMC forces you to use filenames winceimg.bin and winceimg.cks

You will probably need to add a few calls with a binary editor in the beginning of an extracted rom if you want to flash it to unit.

Wait, is this a full WindowsCE environment, from the C310 (not C310x)? Isn't the flash on the 310 a 2GB size?

Hi there

forum looks a little stale but I will give it a try as you guys seem to playing in the area that I need help in.

I have a mio 310s (based on package) unit just shows as a canada 310 that is basically only able to access the menu as above. My suspicion is some one was playing with the soft break in to the wince and found this instead and managed to wipe the unit. Does anyone have a image of this unit or such? trying to restore the unit rather than sending the unit in for repair for what should be an easy fix ( one can hope anyway ;-) ) I also have a sx unit but I am resisting the urge to poke into it to get an image as I don't want to end up with two projects. Any guidence would be appreciated

Thanks for the second link zwanzig, that russian link is a pain from here.
Bad path, but I did manage to get a download with a multi stream program. The install recovered the unit and all seems to work now.

I did a little playing with the blue scree menu and it looks like you can copy the memory to a flash card and restore back (source of russian image maybe??). I havn't tried to copy off and restore yet, but the restore took the russian image nicely from the card. Intend to, now that I can recover the unit from any oops I make, to play with each one if I can. I am going to leave the utool one alone till I can figure out if I can get an image for that as well. If I remember right the testing of memory will effectively format as well so make that backup for sure first is good forethought for anyone playing as well.

Thanks again to all and a two thumbs up for GpsPasSion you saved a 310 from becoming a brick and parts. Got to love Ebay as well (source of the brick) :-)
