| I would like to see a wide screen without all of the extra features. Perhaps a Garmin Nuvi the size of a 660, but less feature rich like the 200 series. |

Here's my worry. Apple made the same mistake in the 1990s -- too many models that only the insider geeks could decode the differences. It temporarily boosts sales as those geeks jockey for position, but shuts out a lot of on-the-fence consumers.

Well I agree that it makes for a lot of models, but there are really 3 families with small variations. I'm not seeing a lot of overlapping and if the prices were added to that list they would show the consistency.
PS - I'm going to rename that thread if only because I don't understand the current "The big line onf Nüvi, the complete mess" title ;-) While I was at it and to make this turn this thread from a rant into something hopefully usful I grouped the families and color coded. |

Interesting comment, and I suspect quite accurate. I am kind of getting into GPS and it is getting confusing for me. For people just coming to the plate it has to be even more comfusing.
Danham, when you say that it shuts out on-the fence consumer, do you mean that they won't buy at all or that they will select another brand?
The whole brand loyalty thing sort of interests me from time to time. I bought a Dell as my first computer and bought another Dell a couple of years later. The first GPS for me was a Garmin StreetPilot 2730 and I am looking just at Garmin again for a possible 350, 660 (200?) for my wife in the not too distant future. |

Isn't the Nuvi 660FM a "new" model that should be listed??

Sounds like somebody is unhappy they did not buy in at the IPO of $14 a share pre-two-for-one split?? |

Yes, because it is too confusing for them to sort out which Garmin to buy. This is a delicate balancing act between having enough models with different features at different price points, and hopelessly confusing and intimidating the consumer.
As GPS "experts," how many times have we been asked by friends and colleagues which one to buy? The Garmin answer just got a lot tougher.

Here I would put "preloaded European full coverage", as the US is already covered by the 200, much like the 300/350, 310/360, where one model appears only in Europe.
Or, else, the 200 is only for the European market and the US maps are on the 250. |

660FM is the 660EU with FM. As far as I understand, the version without FM is going to be replaced 100% with 660FM EU.

| The preloaded map for the 680 is NA only, can you buy the 680 elsewhere than in the USA or Canada? |

| I do not think there is support for MSN traffic other than in NA, so why sell it in Europe then. |

On Garmin's web site it does not say what chip set the 650 is using, does anyone know?
Thanks |

Probably I am hopelessly IT, but a simple decision tree is sufficient.
Five question, more or less.
"Do you need Bluetooth? YES|NO" "Do you need Traffic? YES|NO" "Do you need a 4.3" screen? YES|NO" "Do you need Text To Speech? YES|NO" "Which map do you need? REGIONAL EUROPE|FULL EUROPE|NORAM|ICBM" |
