Yep, you just need a mini-USB cable (same kind that comes with your digital camera) and plug it into the pc and navi. Windows should recognize the device, then you can access it via My Computer or windows explorer. The splash screens are stored in the \...\JPEG folder, while the vehicle SRF files are stores in the \...\GARMIN\VEHICLE\ directory...

Good luck!

PS- the updated arrow provided by Aconite is great--much more accurate, IMO.

Just wanted to thank Ezran for making such a cool tool. I just got my Nuvi 200W for Christmas and was able to easily edit the color of the Garmin euro_blue.srf file using your website utilities and PaintShopPro 7.

Also, I downloaded the nice crosshairs made by Chazz8.

Trying to help a friend out with a custom car in 3d. (He has a Nuvi350)

Since I have a Navigon the files might be named or look different.

Therefore when changing the 3d car (existing garmin) to new name should it be something like

car_3d

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Trying to help him on the phone (which isn't easy).
Can someone please let me know the sequence of folders he needs to look for to locate the arrows/vehicles folder?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Does the finished file need to be a png or srf?
Thanks

All vehicles stored on a 350 are in the Garmin/Vehicle folder on the Nuvi's internal storage. All of the files are .srf

Thanks, first and foremost, to all who have kept this thread productive. Especially for the PNG2SRF converter!!

Here's what I did, if anyone cares, to create a Florida Gators logo naviGATOR for my Nuvi 200:
1. Converted existing truck_blue.srf to PNG format
2. Opened PNG in CS3 and pasted the Gator over each truck rotation
3. Flattened image and saved as JPG with original truck layer turned off.
4. Opened JPG in Microsoft Photo Editor and set transparent color to 255/255/255 (white)
5. Saved as PNG
6. Opened PNG in Paint.NET and saved as a new PNG file
7. Uploaded PNG2SRF conversion.

You can get the nuviGATOR here: http://www.fatmailman.com/nuvi/GatorHead.srf

Ok, I'm a little confused here.

Should the final product (custom 3d car) be a png or srf file?

Again, all vehicle files are .srf files.

Ok, next problem. If I have png file and need to convert it to .srf how do I get it

(PNG image must be exactly 2880x150 or 2881x160 pixels in size)

when using png2srf?

(sorry for the questions, but on the Navigon it appears easier as the files are png and don't need to be converted).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As per png2srf program
png2srf
Convert your modified (or from-scratch) .png file back into a .srf file for your nüvi. I've only tested this with a nüvi 660!
Select a .png file:
(Be patient -- sometimes it takes a while to send your file to the server.)
Uploaded .png files should be either 2880x150 or 2881x160, and need to be 24-bit color plus alpha transparency. You're welcome to try other color depths, but I doubt the results would look very good.
MPBsr25:
You should convert one of your SRF files (\Garmin\Vehicles\truck_blue.srf) to PNG on the PNG2SRF / SRF2PNG page. Once it's done, it will offer you an option where to save the PNG file.
Look at the PNG file and you'll understand the 2881x160 dimensions. Or, look at this one:
http://www.fatmailman.com/nuvi/nuviGATOR.png
Now, take your photo editor of choice and put your images on top of the blue_truck images for all orientations of 10-degrees from 0 to 360 for both large and small icons. Save the PNG and upload it to the PNG2SRF program. It will, once again, process and eventually offer you a prompt as to where to save the resultant SRF file.
Maybe it's me again (and I'm doing this for a friend..HMMM?? Maybe he should buy me dinner)
Anyway...I have a custom car 3d png file that I just need converted to srf as per this site. (Not looking to convert a 2d pic)
Is there some easy way of doing this? I'm not looking to add anything else to the image.
Is it possible to change the vehicle icon in a Garman 2820? I've done it in my nuvi 750, but am unable to find a way to do it with my 2820.
Hi Chaz,
I like your BestXhair.srf vehicle icon. If you're still working on the icons, I have a couple of enhancement requests. One is to create the rotated views like you did for Scope.srf so that it can be used in North up 2d mode, and the other is to change the color of the top tip (maybe blue or green or red) so direction of travel can be more easily identified in north up 2d view.
Thanks,
Rich
