Well, GE first then DG-100 software is the sequence on my machine and it works fine, so worth a go. I presume you're running XP?

Will try that - it's a shame the error from the Globalsat DG100 utility says you need 'Google Earth Plus' - would have saved me US$20 - oh well guess it will have some benefits... ;|
Going to uninstall Google Earth and the DG100 utility - reinstall GE then the DG100 utility and see if that resolves it... |

Uninstalled both - rebooted - reinstalled GE first - then the DG100 utillity - same problem! ;(
Yes it does have:
[Preference] Googleearth=1
... in the .ini file?
Will see if I can try on another PC but it's annoying... @;| |

In the datalogger.ini file is the exact wording...
[Preference] Googleearth=1
... or is it:
GoogleEarth=1
But still not working - a tech friend did some analysis and thinks it is calling 'iexplore' incorrectly (putting a " at the end of the command but not at the start - so it fails).
Will download the software off their web site and try that incase the version I have on CD is broken. |

Still the same... my datalogger.ini now contains:
[Preference]
IsUpdateMetric=1 TxtDir=C:\Program Files\GlobalSat Technology Corporation\Data Logger PC Utility\txt KMLDir=C:\Program Files\GlobalSat Technology Corporation\Data Logger PC Utility\kml CSVDir=C:\Program Files\GlobalSat Technology Corporation\Data Logger PC Utility\csv SelectComPort=COM12: Predefine_1=1 Predefine_2=2 Predefine_3=3 OpenDir=C:\Program Files\GlobalSat Technology Corporation\Data Logger PC Utility\trackdata SaveDir=C:\Program Files\GlobalSat Technology Corporation\Data Logger PC Utility\trackdata IsInitial=1 SelectBaudRate=8
... any ideas? @;| |

Just returned from Mexico "doing" the Copper Canyon by train & bus. Flew a total of four legs there & back from Toronto to El Paso and although I had a window seat on 3 legs was unable to get a lock at any time. On the tour had the DG 100 switched on for up to 14 hours a day - logged a total of 7800 points using 20% of the memory. Most of the time the unit was set to "C" at 20 sec. intervals but am not happy with the results - too many straight lines - will reduce the interval to 10 sec. next time. Once the info was uploaded to my pics and on checking accuracy found that I was about 100 ft out of position but at least from now on I will be able to identify where the pics were taken. Am using Robogeo and very much like the fact that a single pic can be loaded and then the location can be obtained from Google Earth When I bought the unit a 110/220v charger was included and there were no problems on recharging over night. Although knowing very little about GPS at he moment (from reading all the posts above I have a steep learning curve ahead of me, I am very happy with the unit.

Hi,
I'm writing a Java-based software to extract data from a DG-100 unit. I finally finished it as far to give it to other people for testing. It exports the data as GPX files. Furthermore it can split it into single files based on the time interval between two consecutive points. It runs an Windows and Linux machines. Maybe on Macs, too. But that's not tested. It uses RXTX to connect to the DG-100.
The software is still in alpha stage. Therefor I can't guarantee proper functionality (hey, it's software :-).
It can be downloaded from http://sourceforge.net/projects/dg100util/.
I appreciate every comment.
Bye, Stefan |

| kaintoch: This is great. I've ordered a unit today so hopefully I will be able to test the Java application next week. I'll keep you posted about it. |

| My new DG100 was delivered yesterday from Expansys - half the price of anyone else. Worked straight out of the box. Globalsat confirmed to me that there is no GPX output facility (and told me to use GPS Babel etc), but on running the software I find a GPX output option. Haven't confirmed that it works however. |

Haven't come across anything it doesn't work with. However, the GPX file may need a little editing (mentioned here) if to be used with programs using .NET library to read. |

Just received my DG-100. I've installed the latest software from usglobalsat, version S-0PC-0L-07062601. I'm struggling on a few things, first, how do I check the SiRF and Firmware versions, the boxes are just blank in the utiltity even when I've communicated with the device (configure and get logs). Second, how can I check whether WAAS is enabled or not? The device was bought from Expansys in the UK but I know it was shipped from their warehouse in the US so I'm not sure which version I have.
Update, the following day. I read various reviews and comments on the DG100 last night. Checking what people are saying about the device comapared to what I've seen with mine, maybe I've got new firmware?
It's been said that it can't be used as a USB GPS device, well, with mine plugged into the PC the green light is flashing and I can download track logs from when it was plugged in. It only stops logging when I run globalsat's data logger utility.
Charging, someone said when it's plugged into the PC, you can't tell whether it has charged. Not long ago the Orange light on mine changed to red, I assume to indicate charge was full. When it's plugged in, the power light is dim amber if it's turned off but charging and a much brighter amber when it's on and charging. |

Hello,
I'm interested in this device. I'd like to see a pedestrian track comparison between the output from the DG-100 and a MTK device (for instance, the iBlue 747 that I have and that I find rather inaccurate while walking). Anyone has a link to this kinf of comparison?
Thank you,
Silviu |

Hello,
my DG-100 arrived last week. After managing some initial troubles it is now working as expected and I'm satisfied.
It seems there was no default logging interval defined. It registered only manually logged way points and did no automated logging at all. I don't use Microsoft operating systems and didn't find any platform independent way to configure the device. Finally I borrowed a notebook with Windows for the configuration. I have chosen 30 seconds, 100 meters and 20 meters as my logging intervals and will do some experimenting with these. So far the tracks look good.
I'm using Stefan Kaintoch's DG100util to read the tracks and to clear the internal memory of the DG-100. It's working very well. Thanks for that software, it really helps. I only wish I could use it to configure the logging intervals, too.
Somebody reported problems with the belt clip. I had the same problems. I tightened the screw very firmly but it got loose and I lost the device after walking maybe two kilometers. I was lucky enough to notice that after a short time and found it after a short search. Now I prefer to have it in a pocket of my trousers when walking and in the handle bar bag when cycling.
