I have a 269+, running v2, with R20 firmware. I was reluctant to try unlocking it (if it ain't broke don't fix it theory), but reassured by a comment that a hard reset restores it to its original state I decided to have a go. I followed the instructions and renamed the gsfinder file to miostartup, and edited the copymap.ini file etc. When I tried transferring the files I got an "unable to copy files" message and thought that may have saved me from messing it up anyay. Unfortunately, when I now try to start Navigator it is "unable to find maps". I tried a hard reset and restoring the system and get the same message. I can't reload the maps because it says there is insufficient disk space. I have seen these various problems scattered around this forum but can't seem to find a simple solution. I can't decide whether to pursue unlocking it, or struggle on with trying to restore it to how it was. Any advice either way would be helpful. |

I have found two ways to unlock the 286+/296+
The second two ways does not require binary hacking.
1. Copy the MioMap DVD to your hard disk so you end up with a folder called MioMap.
2. Rename the custmio.cab to MioMap_english_20.cab
3. Copy the MioMap_english_20.cab to \MioMap\install\cabs_268\ overwrite the original file.
4. Switch on and connect your Mio to your PC via the UBS cable.
5. Run the \MioMap\setup.exe
6. Select English then select Install Mio Map 2.0
7. Select Install now with all selected languages.
8. PRESS CANCEL AS SOON AS YOU SEE ‘REMOVING OLD FILES….’
9. Unplug the Mio and power off/on (using the switch at the back).
10. Once the Mio is back on enter the date/time to continue the initialisation.
11. Once the installation is complete press the reset.
12. After the second installation you will be prompted to install Banana. Press enter (press down the round button on the left side of the Mio).
13. Your should have unlocked your Mio and see the Wince desktop.
Thank you for reading this….

So ... I have a Mio DigiWalker C268+ (European version - purchased from Italy) and I have updated the firmware to r10. After the update process, when I tried to turn on the device, when I was started, the display was remain blank for few moments and after that the screen was scrambled with some gray/black stripes. The device remain in this state, but i have sound and the blue leds from joystick and buttons seems to be on, I heard the sound ... but nothing on the screen. Any suggestions for solving the problem? Or a proper firmware? Thank you |

Well I have given up on unlocked 269+, got everything unlocked, but too clunky and not enough stuff works properly.
So, finally manged to get back V2 but it doesn't see any maps unless on the SD card. Tried downloading European map, not enough space!!!
I have updated the Firmware (latest V3 compatible) and am now going nuts as I need my SD card for my camera.
I tried recovering back to original config, but that also says not enough space, huh! I thought recovery should ignore what's there already...
Anyone got any ideas? |

TomTom6 uses the sound from the mio self, so you have to turn on sound in the mio itself. Tomtom5 used it's one sound drivers. |

1 In TT6 you have to put the voice-files in the voices map, not in the TomTom/TomTom map 2 In spgps.ini in the windows directory, change the parameters with notepad into the folowing; [GGA_RMC] Type=NMEA Name=GPS with GGA and RMC messages Device=SerialPort Input1=GPGGA,utctime,latitude,ns,longitude,ew,quality,satellites,hdop,altitude,,,,, Input2=GPRMC,,,,,,,speed,course,,,,, Init1=PSRF103,02,00,01,01 Init2=PSRF103,03,00,01,01 speedMultiplier=1.851998 speedOffset=0.0
Maybe you have to turn on MioMap for 1 time and let it find the satellites. After that turn on TT6 and you'll have to see them after a while. Adjustment in the gps-section in TT isn't possible as far as I know.
Good Luck!! |
