It may be that when you used the POI Loader, you used the Express (default) method. For the alerts to happen for the Tim Horton's locations, make sure you choose "Manual" instead of Express when using the POI Loader software. That will allow you to set the alert distance (I used 250m) for each relevant csv file it finds.

Also, for the icon to show up, make sure the bmp is in the same directory as the csv file and rename the bmp to the exact same name as the csv file (except for the extension, of course).

The new version of POILoader has support for wav files, but Garmin seem a little thin on details of how to implement this (ie none).

Has anyone had any success with this for speedcams, Redlight cams?

edited: actually, you just name the wav file the same as the POI (eg schools_40.wav) and place it with the POI files.

Now I can tell the difference b/w red-light and speedcams!

wow that's nice, so that means you can probably use a silent wav files for mobile cams for instance, that would be something.

I'm sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but if it has, I can't find it.

When I download a custom poi file set from a forum here it includes both csv and gpx versions of red light or speed cameras, but do I need to load both in the GPS? I think I'm getting some duplication, as seen when I do a search in the GPS, a Garmin 60CSx, on Custom POIs. When in that screen, pressing "Menu" brings up "Select Database" and here it's obvious that each csv and gpx file is listed separately.

So if only one of the two files should be loaded, which one should it be? CSV or GPX?

TIA

Sorry if this has been covered before on this forum - but for ages I've tried to get custom bitmaps with a transparent background to my Garmin C320. Documentation says you use magenta - but this didn't work for me. But just found out that you need to have the .bmp file with just 16 (maybe 256) colours - I had been using 16 million (24 bit).

Support for bitmap icons seems to be inconsistent. Some sizes, and some bit depths work, and which ones work differ for different Garmin models. I'm glad you've found something that works for your hardware.

I have just downloaded POILoader for Mac (running OSX 10.4.11) and it does not recognise any CSV files that I have tried to load. I have created CSV from text files by opening the text file in Excel and saving as a delimited file format (CSV). I have changed the extensions of .txt to .csv and I have downloaded POI files in CSV format - none of them are recognised by POILoader when I point it to them.

I wanted to use it to load names and addresses from Outlook to POI's using a text export from Outlook - but nothing seems to even be recognised.

Have I missed something?

I'm trying to load some POI on my Nuvi 350 for the first time, and it just keeps popping up the error: "There was a problem transferring your custom POI's to your device. Please try running POI loader again." I'm using the latest version of POI loader and I've tried loading both .csv and .gpx formats. I couldn't seem to find a solution anywhere, so I'm hoping someone can advise me. Thanks!

FAO: Simon Slavin (or anyone else who may know)

I have a whole bunch of POI's that were loaded into my Nuvi via the Windows based POI Loader. I then moved to Mac (whoo hoo!) and now I would like those .csv files imported into Bobcat.
I tried using Simon's "MacGarmin Tools" to convert the .csv files into .gpx format so that I could import them into Bobcat, however Bobcat will not import them.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I could get those POI's into Bobcat? Converting the .gpi file from the Nuvi to .gpx and importing doe not work as expected as they lose the icon's and other details

Many thanks in advance.

Currently using: Nuvi 660
