More thoughts about quirk above:
This bug may have something to do with their automatic route recalculation routines. Perhaps not, as I learned later that the bogus detour is calculated in Trip Planning mode, or Guidance mode, as well. It doesn't come-up as a detour either. Just another quirk (and all the GPS software I tried has quirks).
I don't know who to blame...I heard that ALK uses their own maps, they are spotty, and out-of-date. Have to second that observation.

We are now in the year 2007 ! Just check the new Microsoft Autoroute 2007 well integrated with GPS! (www.microsoft.com/autoroute) 'cause it will soon rulez! Very reliable, fast, fluency usage, lot of attractive new features, compact and easily intuitive to use! Now with even voice assistant! All these costs fairly not more than only few tens euro! Although new AR2007 now include significantly more information/routes about new East European countries like Romania (capital Bucharest at street level!!), Bulgaria etc , it has only few regional roads on that area. The Western Europe is of course much more detailed and updated. And BTW, new Marvin's AR KEYS works fine with it!! |

I'm not currently residing in canada but it shows some weired street names like 'monoree' not even 'monroe'. Well, I paid 100$ for this one. sucks when this has to work like this stupid. |

If I recall correctly 2.1 was the version which actually included for the first time "full" Canadian coverage. Now the program is at version number 3.x, soon to be v.4 I think. Perhaps things have improved in your area since v.2.1.
The map data supplier for iGuidance is Navteq. |

| IIRC it was last year at around this time that a version with new map data was released. Likely then soon we should hear some ETA from iNav. |

| Please suggest best software & GPS to use for 10 week road trip in Spain & Portugal starting in Sept? Will travel mostly smaller cities and out of way locations. We will be leasing a car w/o GPS but will have my HP Pavilion Notebook with 1 GB memory & 1.6 GHZ bus speed. Best options both cost & performance? Suggestions on where to buy software & GPS also appreciated. Thank you in advance. |

| I haven't personally tried http://directions.ltd.uk/laptop-navigation/ , but it does look impressive. And since iGuidance Europe no longer is being sold there isn't much to choose from. You could also consider Microsoft AutoRoute 2007. It's an excellent trip planner, but a bit complicated to use for navigation. |

| Sorry, there isn't any "best". Each one has different strengths and weaknesses. It depends on what your priorities are. You need to figure out what is most important to you. Also, we can't help unless we know what country you are interested in. |

| I am looking for english/united states ...i have used Delorme and streets and trips. I decided the one i like best of those is the Delorme because it speaks street names and has automatic re-route. I have not tried Co-pilot but i WOULD like a 3-d view like the one available in THAT software. Are there any "better" softwares then the ones mentioned, and is Co-pilot any good? My laptop is mounted in my 2005 Impala and i use the Sirf 3 (from streets and trips 07) on all the above mentioned softwares i have tried. THANKS ! |

"...and is Co-pilot any good?" I think CoPilot has the potential to be the best, because it has features needed for trip planning and at the same time it is easy to use for navigation. Hopefully their map quality has improved since I last looked at it few versions back.
Just like Enrique, I also recommend to most people iGuidance by iNav Corp. It is VERY good for navigation.
Microsoft Streets & Trips 2007 is still perhaps the best trip planner around, but it may take a while to get used to using it while driving. It is not driver friendly.
Delorme Street Atlas is another popular choice. Some say the interface used to be better in earlier versions. I personally never used it myself because of the lack of Canadian coverage in the past. These days Canada is included in the product, but from what I've seen the map data has room for improvement.
nRoute by Garmin may be another possible choice. The Garmin map quality is good, perhaps the best of all of the above. I never used the product, though, so I cannot give first hand feedback. |
