I'm working with a UK customer who is having problems getting his nav pane to advance to the next route step, although he says the position is showing correctly on the map.

I've had him remove and reinstall once with a freshly downloaded copy.

I just LOVE little oddball problems.

Anybody else out there with a C500 and Bluetooth GPS?

Thanks,

Lamar

Not too many people have a C500 at this time, actually no one in France outside Orange and official testers!

The guy's probably a real numptie and has mistakenly tried to use the platinum maps instead of using the real navigator maps!

Could be the same problem some games experiencing with having graphics function correctly. Check the review of the C500 that mentions this on http://www.coolsmartphone.com/index.php?option=articles&task=viewarticle&artid=339 .

ddmf, you get this one. He did not realize that Platinum + GPS maps were not Navigator maps. He's fixed up with a Nav Pack now, and we can safely say that BT GPS devices work in concert with Mapopolis on the C500.

I've had another C500 user having problems. He had installed the application to RAM and could not get a BT connection with his TomTom GPS. Moving the app to the card freed up some RAM and and then he could connect.

We recommend installation on the card anyway.

Works Great.
Tested it with UK Region Demo Map on a C500 and Fortuna Clip On.
I am off to San Francisco next week and am gonna give it a go.

BTW Is there a utility to view maps on my PC so I can choose what areas to download.

Eg. I am driving from San Fran down to San Diego and only want those counties on the way, rather than downloading all regions to my Phone?

Welcome to the forums!
1. No on the PC version - use the graphical maps on the Mapopolis site to make your selecton - yes, a more convenient method is on our wishlist!
2. The workaround is to use the "major road" maps and "sprinkle" some county maps beg/stop/end, but that means you might miss one if you stop in an unplanned area.

Hi, Mim,

The theory is that you store all your CA maps on your card, and then you plan your routes by starting with the CA Major Road Map to find and load your start and end points. Then, after generating the route, you can zoom out and select the "pointy circles" all along the way to load the maps needed for full local detail while you travel. We call this "populating the route," and using this technique eliminates the need to know county names.

That phone uses a mini-SD card. You'll need a 256 megabyte card if you plan to carry the entire state. Also, are mini-SD card readers available now? (Installing that many maps by ActiveSync would be a drag.)

Cheers for the advice.

It must be USB 2 as it is rather quick at transferring data.

A lot of Mini SD cards come with an SD adaptor so you can use it in a normal sized SD slot.

Anyone tried connecting a mouse GPS to a C500? Is it possible to get to work through the mini-USB plug, or will it only work with a BT GPS?

Important aspect for me as I may change my QTek 7070 for a c500 model (rather QTek 8020), but I'm NOT going to rewire my GPS system in the car at this point.

Best regards

I just installed Mapopolis on my SMT5600 and have two problems. First Mapopolis can't seem to use the GPS. The phone indicates the devices are connected but when I click "Start GPS" Mapopolis looks at Comm 0 and Comm 1 and just sits there, never connecting. Even if I tell it to try Comm 3 or Comm 4, it only looks at Comm 0 and Comm 1. Anyone have a solution?

Second, the program beocmes very sluggish after plotting a route. It takes a good five seconds to merely go from step 1 to step 2 when merely viewing the directions. I have the program and cards stored on a mini-sd card. Would putting the program in the ram increase the performance. How about a faster (possibly 60x) mini sd card?

Hi, lefty4,

Try setting the COM port to 7 and the baud rate to Auto for a Bluetooth device.

The slowness from one route step to the next has not been reported. How many maps are you trying to load? What other processes are running on the phone?

We have not tested the effect of using faster cards on Smartphones, but, logically, it couldn't hurt, and certaininly might help.

Thanks,

Lamar

I just got 5600 and experience the same problem. Tried all available ports and was never able to start GPS. I know that my BlueGPS receiver and phone can work together just fine. On the same setup MS Streets and Trips connects just fine. I installed Mapopolis in the main memory, uninstalled and reinstalled to storage card, uninstalled other programs to free more memory - still no go.

Lamar,

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try the GPS when I get back in the car. As for the speed of the program, most of the time the program runs with quite a bit of lag. Sometimes it takes up to 10 seconds for a command to respond. Once it in a while the program will be responsive, but 90% of the time it is really slow. I run it with no other programs running. I only have one map loaded, Los Angeles County. I realize it is large map but I hope there is a fix for the lag.

Thanks.
