Now that iphone has come out with GARMIN USA OnBoard V2.0 does anyone know where poi's would be stored or can I add poi's such as redlight and speed camera's?

Officially, you cannot add POIs nor can you add custom vehicles from the garmin garage.

Unofficially, I have found a way to add custom vehicles, but I am still searching for a method to add custom POIs.

@knightflt, interesting idea of yours: create a custom map (.img file) with the poi embedded in it, and then put that map on the phone.

I've gotten the following to work:
- additional custom vehicles
- additional custom maps (from here http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/ , for example)

but I have not been able to get the software to recognize .gpx or .gpi POI files.
Still working on that as well as trying to create a custom .img file with my poi's.

The way I've been customizing it is to use a piece of software called iExplorer that gives you full access to the iphone file system even if you are not jailbroken.
(Warning to those reading this: you can SERIOUSLY mess up your phone with iExplorer. I am not responsible if you mess anything up. Please be careful and make sure you have backups!)

I made some progress; I have been able to get the app to recognize POI files that have been converted to .gpi format.
However, these POIs are only available for use if you search for the exact poi name. I can't browse them by category nor do they show up on the map. Still trying to figure out a way around this.

Hello. How did you get the customized vehicles to be accepted? Was that using the program you mentioned below?

Yes, using either the program iExplorer or i-Funbox, you can copy files to the iphone's file system.

Browse to the folder "North America/garmin-nav.app/storage-na/Vehicle", and copy the .srf vehicle files to this directory.

edit: fixed typo

Hey Larry,

I found the Garmin North America Directory, but I do not have a vehicle folder. Nor can I find any .srf files; Any other ideas where I might find them?

Kurt

edit : Nevermind, found it in storage-na

Too bad about POIs, where did you put the .gpi file that lets you search for exact names?

As a side note I think iExplorer/i-Funbox only work with a non jailbroken iOS device when its connected to a MAC, on Windows PCs the iOS device has to be jailbroken.

@gpspassion, fortunately, iExplorer/i-Funbox do work with non-jailbroken phones on Windows (this is my exact setup).

I put .srf files in the directory Garmin N America/garmin-nav.app/storage-na/Vehicle (sorry, there was a typo in my earlier message)

I put the .gpi files in the directory "Garmin N America/Library/sdcard/POI". Only the directory "Garmin N America/Library/sdcard" exists; you need to create the POI subfolder.

As I mentioned earlier, when you put a .gpi file here, you can search for pois from the "Where to" search bar and it will find them. You won't find them if you try searching from the 'Points of Interest' menu, nor will it display any sort of custom poi categories. In other words, you need to know what you are searching for. If you label your custom poi with a common leading label, this might be ok, but you still won't be able to browse for ones near you.

One more thing I found: I created a .gpi file with proximity alerts using POI Loader (saved it locally & then moved it to the iphone), and the proximity alerts worked!! I was very surprised to find this!

Custom gmapsupp.img files can also be put in the "Garmin N America/Library/sdcard" directory and the app will recognize them.

I played quite a bit with .gpx files trying to get the app to recognize both pois as well as custom routes but did not have any luck.

If you want to go Garmin all the way when you run SteetPilot, they have now released the iPhone Designer Car Kit -> http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=145445 ;-)

As of today, the Extras setting is not showing traffic or live cameras as an in-app purchase option. Anyone else having this issue?
(Does this mean the app is starting to be deprecated? It hasn't had any updates since Nov 2011 and still only has 2012.20 maps)

I called Garmin about these same issues. According to them, an update is due out in the next week. We will see...
