Make: Magellan NAV 1000M5 Condition: Mint/New Condition in full functional/working order Size: 22cm x 9cm x 4.5cm Price: £500 ovno Pictures: See below
This unit is 100% fully functional- i.e. it is Y2K compliant. It is in MINT/ NEW CONDITION and comes with a vehicle mounting, power, PC interface cable and Dome Antenna kit.
This is a very rare bit of kit that can be used today in a military vehicle for off-road navigation. Would make a fantastic addition to a Desert Storm Landrover/ Humvee loadout and yet still be a functional navigation tool in the vehicle or hiking. It is of course a piece of history and a special addition to a collectors range of Military GPS units. This unit (i.e. NAV1000M5) is explicitly described in Janes Defence.
Background The small, ruggedised, portable, lightweight Magellan NAV 1000 M5 GPS receiver was widely used in the 1990-91 Gulf War by a number of coalition force members for applications such as vehicle and troop positioning and so on. Typically it would be mounted at the driver or commander station. The Magellan NAV 1000 M5 makes use of the NAVSTAR Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite network and since the 21-satellite constellation (plus three in-orbit spares) was completed in 1994, it has allowed highly accurate positional calculations to be performed at any point on the earth.
Description The Magellan NAV 1000 M5 comprises the following components: A rugged conductive rubber keypad with single function-only button keys a back-lit four-line, 16-character, alphanumeric easy-to-read 65 × 45 mm sized Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) with 7 mm high digits (and a cursor) An integrated quadrifilar exterior antenna for enhanced signal reception from satellites laying near the horizon If required, a remote antenna kit (with 15 m of cable) and a quick-release bracket set can be supplied for adapting the unit for use in vehicles such as MBTs, HMMWVs and helicopters.
Electrical considerations for these applications are handled by the use of either a 12 V or 20 to 40 V DC adaptor or 115, 220 or 240 V AC adaptor.
Following the system's success in the 1990-91 Gulf War, additional features have been added to produce the following functions/capabilities: updating every second for continuous position navigation and velocity data - the Magellan NAV 1000 M5 reads a minimum of three best-positioned satellites for two-dimensional positional fixes (solves, with a user-entered altitude, calculations for latitude, longitude and time) and four best-positioned satellites for three-dimensional positional fixes (solves calculations for latitude, longitude, altitude and time). Thus the data obtained allow speed and ground course, distance and bearing to objective, multileg route, altitude and cross-track error information to be used for navigational purposes averages a position accuracy of 15 m (RMS) for two-dimensional fixes and 20 m (RMS) for three-dimensional fixes has a single position accuracy of 25 m (RMS) for two-dimensional.
This unit is fully functioning Y2K unit unlike some other Magellan NAV1000M units. This is the only Magellan NAV 1000M5 unit currently available for sale as opposed to "NAV1000M." It is an ideal and functional addition to a Military vehicle. One of the key differentiators in this Military GPS is the navigational corridor feature that helps ensure (through audible and visual alerts) patrols do not navigate into danger no go zones/ areas. The manual describes this and other features in full.
This sale includes quick ref guide, manual, vehicle power supply unit, quick detach vehicle mount, PC interface cable and external dome antenna for vehicle/ boat operation. A complete set for off-road navigation.
