What iPad navigation app are you using, and why do you like it?

That's already been discussed quite a bit in the iPad topic here : http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=132957 - Navigon HD is an excellent app (on-board maps, terrain view, live traffic, etc...) but frankly the iPad is not exactly the most convenient GPS platform with its 10" screen. There are specialized mounts by Brodit and Proclip but unlike a device with a 3.5/4.3/5" or even a 7" screen you can't really have it in your field of view.

Probably awkward in a car, but not so much so in my motorhome. I'm looking to replace my obsolete (old maps, can't be updated) iWay 500C with my iPad 2.

Navigon is one of the few GPS (mobile maps the other) apps that will work on the iPad, in full mode not just doubled. In using it it is very cool and highly visible however like GPSpassion says what do you do with a 10" screen. If you are lucky enough to have a copilot then go for it. If you have the 3G (iPad) version then traffic will work, I do recommend this add on. On the down side there is no real manual for use and if you have used GPS before it can get a little hairy. I have requested a manual before from them (Navigon, like TomTom's) but all you get are some FAQ's and no real teaching. But Like GPSpassion said to me before several months ago, go get it and play with it. I have used TomTom and Navigon on my iPhone and iPad side by side (USA) and there are some differences but the end result they both work and work well. TomTom's traffic is a little better, not in information but in how it is viewed while on you route map. Navigon has a lot of destination information and conditions once you have set it. Navigon has a couple of chooses (usually 3) for you to choose from when you select a destination. Good luck and happy motoring. |
