I have an iWay 500C that I love. Recently it seems to have lost the ability to find satellites. In the past I was able to restart the unit several times and it would finally wake up and locate my position. Now it just blinks blindly and no satellites are found or visible. I just get an empty satellite search circle. Any idea if this is a simple fix that I can manage myself? Will an external antenna solve the problem? Will Lowrance even look at this unit? and is it worth fixing? Thanks
Lowrance won't look at it. I suspect the same thing that happened to mine - a bad connection on the soldered end of the cable connecting the main board to the GPS receiver module. If that's what's wrong it's not hard to fix for any competent electronics technician but you'll never find any new parts or schematics for these units.
Since Lowrance dropped the automotive GPS line there's no more support or repair for the units.

Bob, thanks for responding. I am neither competent nor an electronics technician. I do however own a soldering kit. Hah! Once I crack the case... would it be fairly obvious to see the bad connection? or is my risk of frying the unit greater than fixing it?
Do you know of anyone in this forum/or on the outside that fixes these units?
