I have had 5 Roadmate 1700s and after about 2-3 weeks they lockup with a picture on the screen of a computer and a usb cable to the unit, Magellan says they have to be sent back to be fixed. My question is does anybody know of a program to reset these, or should I just give up and figure I wasted my money? Magellan is not real happy with me. I'm going broke sending them back to magellan. Jerry
I have not tried to install anything except the Magellan updates and they go fine. I install in my truck and after a week or two they lock up. just turn it on and comes up with that screen. I really like the unit when it works. Jerry
I have the same screen but I'm sure it is something I did. I copied all the files off the HDD and when I put them back I got the USB ot computer screen thing. It boots into Mio fine though. My wife is not happy that she can't use the OEM Magellan software. I know I should be able to link to the executable to run it.
Does anyone know where the file is to run the Magellan software from Mio??

BTW, this forum is really fun!
Hi Joe.. Trying to get my 1700 with a bad flashdrive to boot to MIO and it isn't working.. Any chance I can get a list of files on your SD card? Or maybe even a zip or RAR of the contents? I've followed the MIO directions to the letter and it won't get past the 6 o'clock dial on the boot screen.. It then goes to the USB logo..
...edit: I found that the 1700 can be had on ebay for relatively cheap (as compared to the original asking price).. Apparently the craptastic battery makes them a popular target for "broken, used for parts" type sales.. I'm nabbing one for $50 shipped that I should be able to image the flashdrive off of.. It'll either net me two working GPS units, or one with a bad battery, and one brick..
I recovered my 1700 once I got it to connect to the usb port again. I used the firmware update to 4.93 I had previously installed the miopocket older verision to the HDD drive of the 1700. After doing that I was unable to get the usb port to see my laptop and would not connect. After removing the old miopocket. My computer could see the GPS connected.I then used the Magellen program and it saw the gps as connected and it told me there was a firmware update so I did that. and it worked great. the gps was back to normal function. I then installed the newest miopocket to a microSD card and used it. I did not install it to the GPS HDD. It works well in the GPS and when I want the normal GPS functions I simply remove the card and it's back to normal. The newest Miopocket is pretty cool but some of the funbctions do not work corectly. I had to place only 10 MP3's in the Music DIR because it would not see any mmore than that. I cured that problem by making sub dir's and select additional music files by going to the sub DIR. The windows media player would not work at all for me but the Nitro program ( i think thats what it was called) works and plays my files for me. Yes I have the Magellen files for the 1700 roadmate backed up now on my laptop they are about 1.6 gigs in size.
