I am going blind :-) i want to get a bigger screen for my GPS.
there are some really low priced good units now with 5" screens, 7" too but 7 doesnt fit in pocket, takes a bit to much power.

things it must be able to do (prioritized)
1) hackable
2) Earphone jack
3) play movies with TCMP (core player)
4) Access the file system with CECMD
5) not ready for android yet (so still CE)
6) Play a few games
7) Bright screen for viewing outdoors (with hood if needed)
8) runs OZI
9) has some sort of road navigations

I am looking at 2 units that are cheap
the MIO R503T http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=10973258
Magellan 5045TM http://www.amazon.com/Magellan-RoadMate-5045-LM-Widescreen-Navigator/dp/B003ZHVBQM/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Big advantage for the magellen that it has lifetime map updates.

things that i do Not require
1) BT or Traffic or WiFi stuff
2) specific map branding or interface type (although i will be using original)
3) i just need to be able to easily access the OS and without MioPocket, as most of what it has i do not need, and therin it is more stuff and complexity that is unnessisary.

RightWay Model RW550 uses "Windows Embedded CE 6.0" which is easy to get to.

I got a few of those China PND devices for cheap off of e-bay and Dhgate.
a 5" and a 6" running CE6.
I went that route, because I am going to try a bunch of stupid stuff that could brick them, or break them.
I have them apart in 27 pieces now, trying to see what i can do to change/mod it :-)

they are "Sroad" style one is completly unmarked, one is a S660.
screens are not to bright, and the viewing angle is "upside down", the initial interface "skin" thing is pretty lame, but they are comming with IGO8 on them, with 2009 and 2010 maps on.
they didnt even properly integrate IGO8 into the unit, as IGO cant Yet control the backlight.
there is no "features" other than FMtransmitter.

i am seeing what i can do , people said that china devices do not "reset" , i think mabey tossing the user hive would force it to do the registry reset, the rest seems to be in rom.

Most problematic thing i see so far, no access to Control pannel ??? even on the ones that jump to windows.

oh boy this is gonna be fun.
