all other attemps to flash it with firmware failed. either it shoed "no updates available for your product" or "the garmin device was unable to program the requested memory region..." |

kostis007,
Do you know what board version your unit has?
nuvi 7x5 units with board version "V9 4GB P1 DH04_R" ("V9 8GB P1 DH04_R" for nuvi 775 units) can only use firmware equal to or greater than the following: US v3.80 (Garmin internal release), MAL/SG v2.30 or TWN v2.90
If firmware that is lesser than the above versions are flashed to units with the board version above, it will boot up with a white screen and/or be bricked.
Since the nuvi 7x5 US v3.80 firmware is a Garmin internal release that is not available, try using the nuvi 7x5 US v3.90 firmware linked below: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7YQOIIIM
The .rar file contains the "Updater.exe", "7x5US390.rgn" and this "Readme.txt" files.
Follow the below "Readme.txt instructions that are included in the .rar file:
This nuvi 7x5 US v3.90 firmware was created from the original gupdate.gcd (thank you Bahathir).
Make sure you have at least 3/4 battery capacity in the nuvi.
How to use this firmware:
(Method #1) If the nuvi CAN be turned on and/or boot-up normally... 1. If the nuvi is now connected to your PC, disconnect the nuvi from the PC by using the windows "Safely Remove Hardware" option, then disconnect USB cable. 2. Turn off your nuvi. 3. Connect the USB cable between the nuvi & PC and wait until it is shown in Windows "My Computer" under "Devices with Removable Storage". 4. Go to the "X:\Garmin" directory of the nuvi and delete the "gupdate.gcd" file (if it is there). Make sure there is no "gupdate.gcd" file in nuvi drive! 5. Disconnect the nuvi from the PC by using the windows "Safely Remove Hardware" option, then disconnect USB cable (the unit should boot-up normally). 6. Press and hold down the battery icon for about 5 seconds until the unit goes into the Service menu. 7. Connect the USB cable while you are in Service menu. 8. Drag-&-drop the "765US390.rgn" file to the "Updater.exe" file. 9. In the "Updater" window your nuvi should appear in the "USB Device" list. Click on the "USB Device" connection option (check it). 10. You should see "LOADER../SOFTWARE LOADING" on your nuvi screen. 11. Wait until the nuvi reboots itself (don't disconnect USB cable yet). 12. Wait until it is shown in Windows "My Computer" under "Devices with Removable Storage". 13. Go to the "X:\Garmin" directory of the nuvi and delete the "gupdate.gcd" file. 14. Disconnect the nuvi from the PC by using the windows "Safely Remove Hardware" option, then disconnect USB cable (the unit should boot-up normally).
(Method #2) If the nuvi WILL NOT boot up normally (or boots up with a white screen), but IS shown in Windows "My Computer" under "Devices with Removable Storage" when connected with a USB cable between the nuvi & PC. 1. Follow steps 1 thru 4 in "Method #1" above, then go to step 2 below. 2. Disconnect the nuvi from the PC by using the windows "Safely Remove Hardware" option, then disconnect USB cable. 3. Follow steps 8 thru 14 in "Method #1" above.
(Method #3) If your nuvi WILL NOT boot-up normally and is NOT shown in Windows "My Computer" under "Devices with Removable Storage" when connected with a USB cable between the nuvi & PC.... 1. Turn off your nuvi. 2. Drag-&-drop the "765US390.rgn" file to the "Updater.exe" file. 3. (NOTE: When using "Method #3", steps 3 thru 6 below MUST BE DONE QUICKLY!) Keeping one finger on the screen, turn your nuvi ON then immediately slide to LOCK (slide the power switch left then immediately all the way to right). THIS MUST BE DONE QUICKLY (DON"T WAIT FOR the "Garmin" LOGO TO SHOW ON THE SCREEN!). 4. QUICKLY connect the USB cable between the nuvi & PC. The "Updater" window should show your nuvi in the "USB Device" list. 5. QUICKLY click on the "USB Device" connection option (check it). 6. QUICKLY, press "OK" in the "Updater" window. 8. Follow steps 10 thru 14 in "Method #1" above.
PouchX, The .rgn files included within "Nuvi705-715-755-765-775-785_fw3.30_HID_0870_CURE_PouchX.zip" will not work with nuvi 7x5 units that have board version "V9 4GB P1 DH04_R" ("V9 8GB P1 DH04_R" for nuvi 775 units). Could you please make a "Nuvi705-715-755-765-775-785_fw3.90_HID_0870_CURE_PouchX.zip" for those of us that have this newer board version? |

Unfortunately, you can't. This is because the nuvi will not boot-up and therefore you can not look at it in the Service menu/Diagnostic Screen. I asked only to see if you might had already known what it was.
To check the board version of your nuvi (if the unit will boot-up normally). Turn on unit, then press and hold the battery icon (upper right corner of screen). The top black bar will show SW Ver X.XX and the board version.
Example:
SW Ver 3.90 nuvi 775 V9 8GB P1 DH04_R 330MHz
Do you know what firmware was loaded when the unit was operating correctly (before the System Software missing problem started)? Do you know what caused the System Software missing problem? Where you able to flash the "7x5US390.rgn" that I uploaded? What was the last firmware that you were able to sucessfully flash the unit with? |

G7ToWin confirms that the nuvi 7x5 US v3.90 firmware is already installed. Therefore, trying to load the "765US390.rgn" that I uploaded (if you could) would not change anything.
When you updated the firmware with the webupdater one month ago, did it work correctly after that? Again... Do you know what caused the System Software missing problem? Did you do anything to the nuvi just before the "System Software missing" message started happening, and if so what?
Most likley, the only option that you have now is to contact Garmin Support. OR Wait until the next nuvi 7x5 US firmware version is released and if someone can make a .rgn file of the next version, you could try to flash that. |

the gps isnt mine i bought it for a friend,i updated it and gave it to her the next day she called me and informed me about the error. she doesnt know if she did anything that could have caused this error.
the only firmware i could load was this "Nuvi_7x5_cure_firmware_set_by_PouchX" it can be loaded with success, but it doesnt make any difference.
can i use an sd card to load a firmware? |

When you say that you updated it before you gave it to her, what did you update? Was it the firmware, and if so, what firmware version did you use? Your G7ToWin pic shows v3.90. Even though you got the Updater error when you attempted to flash using the 7x5us390.rgn, it may have still caused G7ToWin to show v3.90.
Might she have connected it to a PC, changed or deleted any maps or files, tried to update anything via Garmin.com or WebUpdater?
When you load the "Nuvi_7x5_cure_firmware_set_by_PouchX" firmware, does G7ToWin show the below?:
Nuvi 7x5 Software Version 2.50 ID: 870
Unit ID: 3522760868; USB Comm via Bulk Pipe
After loading the "Nuvi_7x5_cure_firmware_set_by_PouchX" firmware, is the unit then shown in Windows "My Computer" under "Devices with Removable Storage". If not, disconnect it from the PC. Let it try to boot-up. If the "System Software missing" shows again, turn it off and then try reconnecting it to the PC again to see if it is then shown in Windows "My Computer" under "Devices with Removable Storage". |

i used the webupdater and updated almost everything.except some languages it worked perfectly for one day and then died.i suppose it was 3.90 no she didnt connect it with the pc.
when i install the 2.50 by pouch it accepts it but makes no difference at all at the device. it still says 3.90
i never saw it in my computer.it doesnt recognize it as a drive. in device manager it appears only as "garmin usb gps"
also i tried to update with a sd card,i made a garmin folder and inside i put the gupdate.cgd and it started updating but stuck at 3% and screen froze saying "software loading" |

Sorry... I don't know what else you could try. I suggest that you contact Garmin Support and see what they have to say. |
