I tried to set a point in a blank space too, without succes on my 3790 (standard CN Europe map). However when I use a recreational map for Sweden (Friluftskartan) I am abel to select any point, and the point is designated as "Field", "Forest" etc, so I guess that map is made with "solid" areas .. in lack of a better word .. I am no cartographer.
Another odd find; I have loaded a file with over a thousand POI, but only the first 50 show in the list when I try to select one by "Where->extra->poi" .. but they are all there because I can search for the others. Btw, I only get 8-bit(256 color) bmp's to work with POI's.
I have used my 3790 "offroad" for a few hikes/dog walks. Very nice to be abel to download the track afterwards and see how long the walk was and pinpoint the track. At these walks I keep the unit in my pocket with the display brightness at 0% and Display Timeout set to Never. I only wish there were some way to lock display inputs, as I get unwanted inputs all the time inside the pocket.
Another discovery: As this is my first GPS I experimented and uploaded a bunch of Favorites from mapsource and apparently filled up the memory (999) without noticing it. Later when I was out walking I tried to save another favorite and the unit just died on me when I hit save. I tried several times but it just went dead. I got a bit upset about it, but as I thought about it and checked the memory I understood that the memory was full (but it would have been a lot nicer to get a memory full warning instead of a black screen.
How should I organise my saved spots, as Favorites or POI? How do you do? |

Go to the Where To?/View Map page and hold the signal bars in the upper left hand corner for a few seconds. All the satellite info will then display. |

@Rick Also if you are in pedestrian mode and you place your finger on the caption (in the first pic) eg : (kennedy lake)it will give you time and distance from your start point, but will only do it in pedestrian mode. |
cya, have a nice day. |

Is there a way to see the individual satellite strength (showing which sats are being picked up, and where in reference to the horizon)? So far I haven't been able to find that - but surely the unit isn't so "dumbed down" that the owner can't access that info. Thank you.
You may want to read through this thread. I posted pictures of the sat. screen a few days ago and I see you now have the answer on how to get to it. |

@hobus: "but only the first 50 show in the list". I wondered about that too at first. It is normal. Only first (50) show up starting from the closest ones. And, as you write, you can always 'search' for more. |

@hobus - Or as you drive the list will change to always show the 50 nearest you. Been like that for all Nuvi's I've seen.
Your storage issue isn't because you are out of memory it's a restriction that Garmin has imposed on the Nuvi. You'll always be restricted to 1000 favorites so if you plan to have more than that then POI's are your only other alternative as you can store many thousand of these, limited only by the amount of available storage space on the Nuvi or a installed MicroSD card. We have a forum on POIs and how to create them at http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=56475 and there is also one at one of your members sites at http://home.comcast.net/~ghayman3/garmin.gps/pagepoi.htm#pagepoitext. |

| Question: does anyone know if the 37xx is a 1hz or 5hz receiver? I'd assumed it was 1hz but the display is pretty smooth. I'm almost convinced it's simulating a smooth transition between updates because the turns seem slightly delayed but I can't (not surprisingly) find it documented anywhere. |

@aerialphoto: if you keep the battery strength signal pressed (several) diagnostics/informatory screens can be accessed from there. Hope you may find there what you are looking for. |

I doubt WebUpdater will pick up a beta firmware release as these are usually provided in direct download form from Garmin stating it's a beta with all required warnings.

I confused with the software version, since I thought this was the one which needed adaptation, not?

| I have the navigation and phone volume at 100% and the master volume at 80%, the navigation volume is plenty loud but the phone (a LG Accolade) volume is a little low. The phone pairs fine and all the extras (phone book, etc) work well, Anybody else notice this. Thanks |

| I've bought nuvi in Poland (week ago) with SW 2.20 so maybe it is a question of production lot or selling time. We cannot say v2.22 was/is for EU countries only. |

Just got my 3790t last night. I have not yet read much about the different map themes.... so here's something which might be of interest. They are stored in the \Themes\Map\ directory and have a .kmtf extension. But actually they are just text files, so it looks straightforward to create your own, although I haven't had time to try yet. Here's a snippet from the UK theme: ________________________________________________________

I suspect that what is happening is that you can't just tap the screen in some remote area and save it. You can do this on my 780, for example, as the Save button appears on the map screen when you scroll the map. Tapping the screen moves the arrow to that location and tapping Save lets you save the co-ordinates of the arrow. This doesn't seem to be available on the 3790. The remote, off road location has to have a name, like the lake in my earlier example or a river etc.
I have a question - why would you want to save a location of some place you couldn't drive or walk to and that isn't named in the maps? If your out hiking and find a spot you want to save so you can come back to it you can do this via Tools - Where Am I - Save. Is pre-saving co-ordinates in remote locations useful for geocacheing? If so wouldn't you use Where To - Co-ordinates as you'd already have the locations of the cache?
Or am I totaling confused, which wouldn't be the first time.
@sergzak - lucvl's 3790 is a European version, I believe, so maybe they have firmware versions that are numbered differently than ours but I agree, I've never seen any that didn't end in a 0 either. Maybe a typing error.
I have seen the same thing on my unit(s), but it's only when trying to select something OFF ROAD. I can always select on-road locations and navigate to them. This is evident regardless of nav mode - ie; off road, faster time, shorter distance etc...
I can't see why I'd want to select something off road with City Navigator and navigate to it, but I suppose it's possible some may have a need for that. |
