You can also use for this purpose freeware and open source 7z (http://www.7z.org) which understands .rar format among many others. Feature wise it's actually on par if not better than both WinZIP and WinRAR. |

I wish I could find the actual Garmin quote, but they did indicate the subcription could be moved under that scenario, as I recall |

For those like myself who are wondering about Lifetime Update and lost/stolen or defective systems and transfers, here's what I just got from Garmin (direct quote):
Thank you for contacting Garmin International. With the lifetime map updates, it is only good for that one device. However, if your device was stolen, and you could provide a police report, we would be able to transfer that map update for you. If your unit comes in for repair and is exchanged out or if it was stolen and you have a police report, are the only two times the map updates can be transferred.

I'm getting no update available when I search for my 680. I have the lifetime maps license (is it somehow tied to my account with my.garmin.com?) and currently have NA 2009.1. Anyone else with a 680 have an update available? Are they rolling the updates based on model? That would probably be smart just to avoid their infrastructure being crushed on day 1 of new updates.
thanks, -c
****Update**** Never mind. After leaving the unit connected to my computer for a couple of minutes, mygarmin.com popped up a message saying an update is available. I'm downloading now. |

| I downloaded the 2009.11 map about a week ago for my newly purchased 885T, and I just tried to update my map again and it won't let me. I do fall within the 60days guarantee. What's the deal? |

I thought that I was going to run out of swear words and combinations thereof last night after around five painfully slow download "extractions" and subsequent server errors. Sleep cures a lot, and seemingly this problem disappeared at work today, no probs on first attempt. Very happy now, daily street in neighbourhood now continuous, fresh 2010.10 maps on a budget-priced 260 ordered Monday night, received by UPS on Wednesday morning and ready to roll on Thursday. Thanks Costco.ca, UPS and Garmin!

I have a garmin nuvi 255 and the maps I had were the latest ones before this new update. I had the same problem with the last update and I called garmin and someone in software helped me by editing some stuff in the last update and then it worked. He said it would not happen again in any future updates but it did. How do I fix this?? |
