Sad news today after I spoke with a cs agent at Garmin. I had inquired when the new maps (2010) may become available for the 2610 and after a short hold so he could speak with someone else about this update he informed me it is very unlikely Garmin will have any more updates for the 2610. Hope this is not true as I really have had good service from this unit.

I'm not surprised. I heard some time ago that Garmin was discontinuing City Navigator, and would only have City Navigator NT as a current map product. If you like your 2610 that much, I would go ahead and get the latest maps available for it if you don't already have them.

They last did something like this with City Select several years ago, leaving those of us with GPS V's stuck with old maps. Oh, well. Now I have my 276C and 478.

Interesting. I thought the GPS V could not handle the CN line because of its memory size. Apparently some maps (in CN 4/5/6 anyway) were larger than 19MB. That's good to know. Thanks!

I too have a perfectly functional 2610 and I see no reason to throw it away. Two questions:

1. What is Garmin's support and end of life policy for their products? I have had my 2610 for just over 3 years. That is way to short a time for obsolescence. If Garmin insists on canceling support so soon, I will *never* buy another Garmin product.

2. The response that I got from Garmin tech support indicated that there might be 3rd party map updates available. Is anyone aware of this?

Has anyone found a third party source for new map sets for the Street Pilot 26xx series? It seems to me that Garmin has dumb downed all their current products so that none offer the features and route planning flexibility of the StreetPilot 26xx series.

I agree it is a shame, as you can see in my signature I have a number of 26XX,27xx series. They go back to around 2003, so at 9 years old I can somewhat understand why Garmin is no longer going to support.

Just look at how few posts there are on this page, seems to say something about the number of units still being used.

I've been buying used 26XX's for $50-$75 for years as many people no longer use them.

They were the most functional of all the units, vs the newer dumbed down ones...
