Because obviously you are not their target market!

I don't care about bluetooth, mp3, or an FM transmitter. What interests me is the pedestrian mode on this new model. Look closely at the screenshot:

Have you even seen street names displayed with text this small on a Nuvi. Clearly not. I have been making my own maps, and even so there is no way to force text to display this small. I can do it on my Oregon with the menus though. Big text is desirable for auto use where you can only glance quickly at the screen, but it makes for an ugly map without as much useful detail on a handheld (which you can hold closer to your face). This is a first on the Nuvi (AFAIK... does the Nuvi 500 do this too maybe?).

Now look a little more carefully at that photo. Can someone explain why there are TWO (+) zoom buttons??? Makes me think this is a photoshop job instead of a real screenshot...

Good catch ! Even for a Photoshop job that wouldn't make sense...there must be en explanation, maybe one of them is to control the "pitch" or the text size, with the "minus" switching from one feature to the other based on which "plus" button was pushed last...just a guess obviously !

Well I still think it's a goof resulting from them simulating the screen; the buttons might be on separate photoshop layers (now I'm just guessing too!). The screen layout is a bit like the Oregon, with the return arrow in the bottom left. On the Oregon, when you search for something the resulting item is displayed at the top of the screen, sort of like the directions in this screenshot. And when you do that, the (+) and (-) buttons shift lower on the screen, so there are two different locations where the buttons can appear depending on context.

The Nuvi 5000, 8x0 and 8x5 have the custom avoidance feature. You can choose individual roads and/or define rectangular areas to avoid.

Engadget has posted hands-on photos today and the double pluses are actually there. Here's an example.

Boyd, I do see that, but I also would like the GPS to see all POI, and according to some the 865 can, but some else tell me that 865 is slow compare to 765.

So Garmin seems to have trouble making a fast GPS that do all.

Previously owned : GPS "eTrex Yellow" "GPSmap 76S" "GPSMap 60CS" "GPSMAP 60CSx" "Nüvi 660"

The 5000 will also show POI's at greater zoom levels, and has a menu where you choose which categories to display. The 5000, 8x0 and 8x5 seem to share a common code base - they appear to be the only Garmin units which run on Linux. Aside from speech recognition the Nuvi 5000 seems to mimic all the 800's features.

In terms of speed, my 5000 feels about the same as the Nuvi 600 or 700 series. I wish it were faster, but it's acceptable. But it takes a very long time to boot from a cold start. Guessing this is because it's decompressing and mounting a full Linux file system, like TomTom does. In contrast, my Nuvi 205 boots really fast.

How about this? "With the 1490T's enhanced user interface, you can slide your finger to conveniently scroll between screens."
