Here's what everyone's been waiting for...

Attached are a bunch of files that I've managed to piece together from different GPS hacks to make work on the Pharos 150. A lot of work was done by liuczh8 for the pharos 250, however I have modified, removed and added quite a bit of code to get it working correctly. I managed to rebuild the NK.bin file to include all of the required registry settings. There is still a mortscript script that runs on startup to copy over the required .dll's - I would have built these in too, but for some reason when NK.bin becomes larger than the original file size it craps out on loading.

What's Included
-GREAT new GUI
-TCPMP Video/Audio Player (works great, take it on a plane!)
-Calculator
-File Browser
-Wolftool Tool Bar Autohide (very useful for multitasking - play an MP3 then switch to GPS nav)
-System Clock SYNCED to GPS Signal --defaults to CST
-PDF, Image, Word, Powerpoint Viewers
-Notepad
-Onscreen Keyboard
-Instant OFF button
-Tons more in the /SDMMC/Utils folder just go look!

Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/82133303/Pharos150Package.rar.html

Instructions:

1. Download and unrar the file. Go into the "for web" directory.
2. Take the SD card out of your Pharos, put in your computer. Back up everything on the card incase something ****s up.
3. Go into your SD card. Goto DestinatorApps\Destinator. Rename Destinator.exe to Destin@tor.exe
4. Copy everything inside the "for web" folder directly to the root folder of your SD card overwriting when asked (Yes, even overwrite the NK.bin file).
5. Put the SD card back in your Pharos 150. Hold the reset button down with a pen or something for ~10 sec.
6. Turn it on!!!

Bootup is slightly slower than stock because we have all these new features to add and load up. It may take ~10 seconds. I also removed the little dingdingding bootup sound cause it was pissing me off everytime I had to turn the unit on to test things. The hour glass you see on startup is the toolbar syncing the system clock to the GPS Satellite signal clock. If you are inside when you first turn it on, the time/date on the front page may show incorrectly. Thats fine, just wait til you get outside and reboot it.

I have it defaulted to Central Standard Time. If you are in a different time zone, just click on the little windowsXP toolbar icon at the bottom right to get into the control panel, where you can change it.

TOMTOM Instructions

1. Somehow ;) aquire TomTom Navigator 6 for Windows Mobile. Procure some maps as well.
2. Follow the instructions at the bottom of this page to setup tomtom by langdon66: http://langdon66.googlepages.com/index.htm
3. Copy all of these files onto the SD card root folder. The TomTom icon will now function.
4. Make sure the TomTom GPS software is set to: Other NMEA Receiver, Baud 4800 on COM1

What if I want to use the Ostia/Pharos defualt nav software instead of tomtom?

Before copying everything over to the SD card, browse to 'for web'\SystemInformation\Apps and open up the file Tools.ini in notepad. Change TomTom Navigator.exe to Destin@tor.exe. Also, change TomTom2.ico to Destinator.ico (both instances).

Can't really think of any other instructions to give you. The software is pretty customizable if you look into the .ini files. I've built a new registry into NK.bin so we don't have to script the injection at bootup...if anyone wants a copy of the current registry for reference purposes, just let me know.

And let me know if u like it!!
-Daniel

Wow, very nice work you have done here. Will try it tonight when I got home.
One question: Should I put the down load files into the "for web" directory?

Thanks Daniel

Actually when you un-rar the file, it should spit out a "for web" directory with everything inside it. I rared up the entire folder

Thanks, by the way, mine is purely Pharos 150, no Mio map or Tom Tom Nav, so it will be ok right? Just ignore the second part?

I wonder where ppl got tom tom or mio map when they don't have the devices?

np. You might want to search for the bay of pirates on google to find the torrent for TomTom Nav 6. TomTom made a navigator program for windows mobile devices such as PDA's and phones and stuff. This is the one you will be using (it is very similar, if not identical to the program they load on their own GPS units). If you can't find it and really want it shoot me an email and i can send you the program...it's quite small and you can download the maps separately (which are big).

Otherwise, just ignore the tomtom section, and follow the instructions at the end of my first post to use the pharos software

Tried it right after got home. At first, no problem, all files were fine, gps was running good. Was so happy.

Playing around for a while, tried to get to know but surely didn't make any changes, then when I selected gps, the unit got frozen. Re boot, mp3, files....all fine but as soon I touched gps, it got frozen. Repeat the whole process of installing and it is workin again

Oh, did not see your post. I post the edit above. Now is working fine. Small problem is when I restart, the time goes back to central time. Other than that, so far so good. Thanks for putting up all together.

The kill button was working first time but after re-install, I can kill the gps but not to shut down unit completely. However, this is a very small problem. I am much much happy now.

Nice job, Daniel53!

I was wondering whether the changes you made will still allow it to work seemlessly on the Pharos 250? I actually own an Omnitech, which is Staples clone of the 250. My understanding is that it is essentially identical, so the obvious question is whether you think your hacks would work on my Omnitech. I assume that if they still work on the 250 they'd be fine on my unit.

Look forward to the answer!

Regards,

Steve

Daniel,

Great Job!!!

I do have some recommended tweaks for you:

I was able to get your hack working on my 150 without replacing the NK.bin (I had already tweaked mine some) and without messing with the real Destinator.exe.

I modified the default.reg in NK.bin:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\TECHWARE\Application]
"WaitForCardReady"=dword:00000005
"Delay"=dword:00000001
"Name"="\\SDMMC\\Utils\\Explorer.exe"

for Explorer.exe, I renamed and used Brian T Langdon's destinator_replacement.exe from http://langdon66.googlepages.com/index.htm.

This gives me the WindowsCE start button and taskbar.

I put Destinator.exe, Destinator.mscr, and MortScript.exe from Pharos150Package.rar in a folder I named MortScript and created a shortcut to Destinator.exe (from the rar) in my StartUp folder (\SDMMC\StartUp).

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Explorer\Shell Folders]
"Windows"="\\Windows"
"StartUp"="\\SDMMC\\StartUp"
"Recent"="\\Windows\\Recent"
"Programs"="\\SDMMC\\Programs"
"Program Files"="\\Program Files"
"My Documents"="\\SDMMC"
"Fonts"="\\Windows\\Fonts"
"Favorites"="\\Windows\\Favorites"
"Desktop"="\\SDMMC\\Desktop"
"Application Data"="\\Application Data"

Even if you don't want the WindowsCE start button and taskbar I still recommend the above changes to your setup but instead of using Brian T Langdon's destinator_replacement.exe, just rename your replacement Destinator.exe to get MortScript running and don't place a shortcut in the StartUp folder. Tis way you don't have to mess with the real Destinator.exe.

With the way I've done it, if you want to revert back to the plain old Windows CE desktop (with start button and taskbar), all you have to do is remove the shortcut from the StartUp folder.

Oh, and to auto hide the taskbar:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\AutoHide]
@=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\OnTop]
@=dword:00000001

Because I have the regular WindowsCE toolbar I can shut down the Wolftool Tool Bar after it grabs the time via the GPS and still be able to multitask. Wolf can be buggy at times.

what do you mean when you "select gps"? Are you clicking the tomtom button or what? Which navigation software do you use? A few more specifics could help me help you a lot more

Thats great if you prefer the windows toolbar over wolftool bar. I did this for a family member so i wanted it to boot straight into an easy-to-use environment with nice big touch buttons and all. When I say I have a modified NK.bin, I mean I changed the default.reg just as you are speaking of, then I repacked the image. But yeah, what you're saying should work too
