Hi All,
This is my first post. I have a question. Can the itinerary fuction be added to the custom menu on the One XL-S? If it can, that would provide a unit with both TTS and the Itinerary function. I presume from the above that it can be added to the One LE and the One 3rd Ed.
I am looking for a TT for me and my wife and daughter. I bought a TT Go 720 for my Mother after Christmas simply because of the user interface. I found that I liked a couple of the features like itinerary and TTS. I would like to get a TT for myself but want a less expensive unit that is a little more portable, especially since I will be buying three. I can live without the TTS but want the itinerary feature. I see from the above posts that the itinerary function can be added to some of the units. That is way cool.
I have been using my laptop with the Delorme software and their GPS antenna. The routing and via functions are great but the system is cumbersome in the car. I want to get something that is very portable as I travel alot.
Thanks for the help. |

Nope, you can't customize the quick menu because it's a feature of the navcore 7 system which isn't supported by the Software Developer Kit (SDK). You can only customize the main, preference and cursor menus. |

I tried several times and failed to get it to work.
Then guessed that my Windows VISTA Notepad was adding a ".txt" extension to the file. Went into the command prompt and checked the directory of L:\SDKRegistry and sure enough the file there was actually named TomTom.mnu.txt (Thank you notepad and Windows explorer who hide this file extension) I used the REName command and corrected the name and the new menu pops right us just as Boyd said it would.

I just tried the TomTom Menu Builder (http://xxx.gregoryduncan.com/ttmd/index.php). It does only one sub-menu, the preferences sub-menu. It does not see any of the other sub-menus, such as the itinerary functions. It also does not provide a feature to add pages or sub-menus.
I am also a Linux operator and have no fear of editing the menu myself. So, I manually added a page to the main menu, then used the Menu Builder to add the icons. Once I added a page, I was able to add menu items.
Another function that ought to be looked at, if the Menu Builder is updated to add sub-menus and pages, is the ability to move icons down, not over write them. Such as: I want to add an icon on page one. If I drop that icon on row 1 column 2, the existing icon is removed rather than pushed down the list, which should in turn push all the rest down.
Just my opinion. A great tool, but lacks functionality.

| Daq. I (and several others) have no problem using the MenuBuilder. We just start from scratch, not half and half like you do. |

My wife just bought me the TomTom ONE 3rd Edition. I tried to do the cutom menu beace I wanted the Itinerary feature. The custom menu works but when I click on Itinerary, the unit freezes then reboots. It does this every time, it seems like they have removed the Itinerary feature all together. Anyone know anything about? Is there anyway to get that feature back?
Thanks ahead of time for any help. |

| To be honest I don't know. I just backed up everything and then installed TTnav7.166.8497_ONE and now I have that feature back. I have been reading about this thing all morning and found some instructions for getting it back and it is working perfectly now. I'm sure I lost some features but everything I have read about the Itinerary and seen so far by messing with it, it seems worth it. |

| Sounds good, one way to go back to an older version is to delete the ttsystem file and let TomTom HOME do the updates for you, it will start with the oldest version for your model, v6 generally then up to v7 and v8 if applicable. |

| Has anybody customized the menu of an XXL 540s ? Will any of the utlities on the net work? They all seem to have been designed for (or at least tested on) older TomTom models, or on the Go series. |

| They should, the "language" hasn't changed since this trick was discovered. The only problem might be with new features that didn't exist at the time, some detective work will be needed ;-) |
