| This Amcor A3900 looks almost identical to the Jensen NVX225. Are they the same units, can anyone confirm this? |

| Forget that 20% off coupon, "not valid with Doorbusters". For $150 with $50 rebate they can keep it. |

| The AmcorA3900 is a Linens 'N Things exclusive. I called Amcor to ask them some questions about it a few days ago when I was researching my purchase. I bought the thing based on the mp3 and picture viewer functions. If anyone can figure out how to mod it, that'd be awesome. It's not the best at giving directions and it doesn't have enough pre-set POI. Thanks for any help. |

So what's your goal after unlocking it? I'd definitely like to upgrade the i-GO system, but don't even know what version I currently have. And, quite frankly this company's user manuals suck. I plan on calling AMCOR on Monday to register my product (as it's not featured on the Web site) and to give them a piece of my consumer mind.

Sorry about the two other replies.... something is messed up.... I got knocked off the forum when I tried to reply...
I bought the Amcor 3900... No info on the Amcor site for the 3900... it's special for Linnens n things.
I put my Mio 220 up for sale, and will keep this one for a while. It runs the same map set.... except it is about six months newer... I found my son's street in florida was updated. The POI data base has a different look, but can't really determine if it's got more or less points. It;s also running an older version of Windows mobile. It plays MP3's, displays video and pictures, but when I tried video and pictures.... it took a few tries to get a full screen display. The routing seems to be identical, This unit has Canada, PR and Guam included. The feel of the menu navigation on the Mio is smoother and I would say quicker responding. The Amcor unit is heavier than the Mio. Ther is a menu button on the top, it includes a USB cable, the user manual is on the disk, and is as good as the Mio's. There is also a battery saver on off, and a volume adjustment on the side. Looking at the cockpit map screen, with zoom icons turned on... youo can hardly tell the difference between the two.... even the color schemes have some common names.
The Amcor maps would not run on the Mio... must be a code somewhere on the map file.... the first several bytes of data on each map file is identical.... but there must be a code to keep you from moving map files.

I got one of those Amcor 3900 units too, and yes it is the same as the Jensen NVX225, except that it comes with video/mp3 playback software. Ive tried all the little tricks and hacks people have used in this forum (just do a search for the Jensen NVX225) and they work. If you got one of these for the sale price, its worth it. If you have to pay over $80, put it toward something else. Something went wrong with mine the second day and I had to do a restore from the DVD that came with it...the restore made it even worse :( and I could no longer use the navigation software. I look on Amcor's there site and couldnt find the answer to the problem, so I called their support telephone number, left a message, and they called me back and told me to look on there website for the information (which as I mentioned, was not helpful). Using some of the information from these forums, I was able to install explorer, use Windows CE and use the iGO software again. Does anyone know the name of the original manufacture? I would like to check out there site or call them. PS..I was able to run iGuidance Navigation software on the device. Thank you |

| The label on the back of my Amcor (picked it up couple of hours ago) clearly states WinCE.NET 4.2 Core Wonder which one is wrong, specs on the website or the label on my GPS. |

| Just checked my Amcor. Maps are from 2006 and run off the included SD card, not built-in, so media player is kind of useless unless I don't want to use GPS. It's going back to LNT tomorrow unless someone here wants it. It's yours for $96.00 (what I paid) plus shipping. |

| Well shoot, I was hoping for WinCE 5.0 and by Gene's post I'm having doubts that it has a 400Mhz CPU too if the Mio is quicker responding. I was planning on loading TomTom Nav on it but use the maps for the high end TomTom units instead of the ones that come with Nav and that requires some CPU power. |

Hacking into the unit is a breeze! Use ActiveSync to gain access to it, under \MyFlashDisk rename igolaunch.exe to _igolaunch.exe, copy over a CE version of explorer.exe to \MyFlashDisk and rename it igolaunch.exe.
I later edited the registry: HKLM\init launch50="YFShell.exe" to "explorer.exe" to accomplish the same thing and undid my first changes.
btw, if your unit is connected to your computer via ActiveSync, CeRegEditor allows you to edit your devices registry from your computer. http://ceregeditor.mdsoft.pl/ With this handy registry editor you can hack into your device immediately via the registry. |

| WinCESoft GAPI for HPCs fully supports the A3900 if you select "Audiovox Jensen NVX225, CE 4.2, 320x240". |

Has anyone noticed that registry changes are not lost even after a hard reset if the right sequence of events preceeds the hard reset?
With my unit, when I unplug it it does a soft power off if I turn it back on and then use the battery on/off switch my current registry settings are still there when I turn the battery switch back on and even the reset button doesn't reset the registry to factory at this point.
Is it the same for you? |

wow -- the HKLM\init launch50="YFShell.exe" to "explorer.exe" worked. thank-you.
i have a tip and a question:
tip: disable the i agree disclaimer...copy \MyFlashDisk\iGO\sys.txt to your pc open it with notepad and change the line "drive_carefully=1" to "drive_carefully=0" close and save. then copy it back to the amcor 3900 (you have to do the copy / overwite because their is no notepad app to edit directly in win ce)
my question: now that i can boot to windows ce, i want a desktop icon to launch the gps i tried going to \MyFlashDisk\igolaunch.exe and create shortcut (send to desktop) and it works. until i power off then it is gone. (a bounus would be if i could get the icon to stick in the start menu or start / programs
i notice that when i launch the gps you have to reboot via the slide battery switch to get back to windows ce. |
