Posted - 08 juin 2011 : 23:19:25 My current GPS is getting a bit long in the tooth and I have been thinking about getting a new unit. At the same time, I find that I am using my AIO less and less because the navigation software built into my smartphone(s) is generally good enough.
Given this, I am not inclined to spend very much on a AIO unit, but the good news is the prices seem to be dropping. For example, Walmart has a refurb TomTom XL350 right now for $49, and Amazon has a new TomTom XL 335TM with lifetime traffic & maps for $99!
However, before I invest even $1 in a new AIO, I want to make sure it gets me something so I use it. One feature I used to like in Navigon GPS units was the "POIs at next exit" feature. I found this very useful on roadtrips, but it seems that very few GPS vendors include this useful feature.
As far as I can tell, only Magellan offers this feature. Is that correct? I'm hesitant to invest in a Magellan unit as they don't seem to be doing well and they seem poised to drop from the market. (For example, no map updates for many months even though they are selling lifetime map upgrades).
Any suggestions? |

I installed v43 of the map updates last night, worked like a charm. |
