Posted - 05 janv. 2011 : 18:19:37 Was thinking about getting an unlocked Android phone to use as a GPS abroad (also to use with prepaid data SIMs).
But the high-end ones can go over $600 easily.
Nokia N8 is selling for $450 from Amazon right now. Specs are okay, AMOLED screen, 12 Mp camera, capacitive touch screen.
Haven't kept up with the Symbian OSes but looks like their implementation of multitouch UI (so may be buggy if it's their first attempt).
Apparently the N8 has been selling decently in some of the Nokia strongholds where iPhone and Android haven't penetrated.
Wonder about the Ovi maps (I think they're from TeleAtlas?), the routing performance, the POIs and other nav features. Supposedly their offline maps so data isn't required.
Also wonder about how smoothly the UI works. The processor is only an ARM11 680Mhz, not the sexy A8 Cortex. So how does it integrate the music player with GPS, is switching back and forth smooth, etc.
Also wonder if a 4-inch screen, such as in the Nexus S, wouldn't be better for GPS than a 3.5-inch screen.
Not sure what kind of app. support Nokia has. Would be nice if for instance Navigon was available as an alternative. |
