Posted - 18 mai 2006 : 22:39:58 UPGRADE YOUR GPS-400 to v5.5
The Packard Bell GPS400 AIO was launched at the end of 2005 and was well received overall, but many users complained about the sometimes counter-intuivive Destinator ND (v5) navigation software. Both PB and Destinator must have been listening because v5.5 To upgrade the firmware of your GPS-400 please follow the steps below: Download the upgrade here (22Mb - password : GPS21e7) 1. Transfer the firmware files to an SD or MMC card which is in FAT format. 2. Put the SD or MMC card into the GPS-400. 3. Press the power button, the arrow down button and the reset button at the same time. 4. Release the reset button. One second later, release the other buttons. 5. The Packard Bell screen will appear. After a few seconds information about the process will be displayed. Do NOT interrupt the process. 6. When firmware flashing has finished, the GPS-400 will ask to remove the SD or MMC card. 7. Remove the SD or MMC card. 8. The unit will restart. 9. All setting are lost as a result of the firmware flash. Please follow the on-screen instructions to set up the GPS-400.

Posted - 02 juin 2010 : 12:24:36 Hello everyone.
Can I know who to refer to with regards this firmware? I need to know who is he to ask him if it would be possible to add a string in which after a hard reset and before booting, a given file from the mmc is loaded, just as on Mio Pocket navigators, so that I can add my personal modifies without changing original software. Let me know about this matter, I will be glad to test it personally and support.
Many thanks and my apreciations for your works; many times I found useful informations here.
Keep up the good work,
and best regards. |

Posted - 22 mars 2007 : 00:13:48 I must admit that this site has more info then pb themselfs.
I got a gps400 last week and found the device to be running quite slow. Not just the menu interface but the fact that in the house it wouldnt find any satalites and it'd take upto 10mins to lock onto any satalites outside.
One of my work mates said for me to update the firmware so i called onto pb's website downloaded the 1.02 firmware for destinator ver 5.1. I have followed all the instructions provided but cannot get the thing to run the firmware upgrade.
I know there has been previous posts to do with getting the bootloader to work. For some reason i've been trying for the last 4 hours and still no luck. This is what happens:
I press the power button/bottom left direction button and hit reset and all it seems to do i show the pb logo screen>loading>asks to input time zone etc>tells me i have no maps loaded!
Its getting annoying now, please help :-(
p.s i have flashed/updated firmware/custom firmaware on lots of different devices but this vulcan death grip on the gps400 takes the biscuit! I've gotta be doing something wrong! |

Posted - 22 sept. 2006 : 00:19:13 I did go through the steps mentioned in the posts but for some reason the "Action" line I was using wasn't working. I found a way of moving the "exe" file to the Destinator folder and renamed and rebuttoned the picture button. I now have what I want.
Cheers guys

Posted - 21 sept. 2006 : 00:22:17 There are a number of posts, mine included, in this forum about how to change the 'front' end' and the buttons displayed on the PB 400 and then there is a great tutorial here....

Posted - 20 sept. 2006 : 23:55:16 Cheers, Thats a great help. I will use that.
I was actually trying to get a button on the normal start up screen along with, or in place of, the MP3 player and the Photo Viewer.
I have no need for either of those 2 buttons, and I only really intend to use it for SatNav. I have downloaded the TomTom pics for the buttons and can change them, I am just having trouble working out how to get the button to do what I want. I belive I have to modify the "Action line".
My TomTom folder seems to be in
" Program Files\Navigator\TomTom Navigator "
In this folder there is a TT symbol (Two red hands) which if I click on it, it will open the programme. I just can't work out how to link it up to the button.
Thanks in advance for any help, Keith

Posted - 20 sept. 2006 : 22:45:07 Do you mean to place a shortcut of TomTom on to the PB400 desktop becuase if you do then navigate (via Active Sync and your PC) to the Windows folder of the PB400 and then the folder called Desktop. Then copy, via the PC, any shortcut that you want from the PB400 to that folder and it will appear on your desktop. Hope that it makes sense...!!!! |

Posted - 20 sept. 2006 : 21:02:01 Sorry for not helping out, I havew just seen your plea, and then your follow up ...!!!!
Glad that it has worked out for you, you would not believe how long in took me to get the upgrade to work. My friend tried for a few days constantly, so it seemed, before he realised that he needed to unzip the upgrade files on his card first...!!! |
