Posted - 30 août 2011 : 19:25:39 I apologize for making a thread like this but I'm in need of this forums expert advice :) My work has assigned me the responsibility of finding some solutions for our field teams. We are a civil engineering consulting firm for the mining industry. We've recently been having a problem with our field teams collecting data samples without recording their locations. So Ive been trying to think of a way to make this as easy as possible for them so that they will actually do it. My idea was to give them GPS data loggers because they already have cheap digital cameras that they use but doesn't help us in the office too much if we dont know where the photo was taken.
Most, if not all, of the locations will be in the middle of nowhere New Mexico, and Idaho possibly in some tall valleys and vegetation. So a receiver that can handle that type of terrain would be best (I'm not up on the new chip tech). Battery life would have to last for at least a day if rechargeable type. Would rather stay away from non-rechargeables if we can (the goal is for people to actually use them without excuses). Simple to use, most of the people who will be using them are not the most tech savvy and will probably look at having to use a logger as a chore.
Again, sorry for creating this type of thread. If I was looking for myself I would do my research, but for this task I dont really have the time. I would really appreciate any suggestions or advice. Thank you!
